Orphaned non-free media (File:KTIX-AM_logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:KTIX-AM_logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 16:18, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

That was fast. I'm in the middle of creating KTIX (AM) and had only uploaded the logo 11 minutes before getting this alert. I've saved the half-formed article with an {{under construction}} tag so now it's no longer orphaned. - Dravecky (talk) 16:25, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Radio Station Up for Deletion

WKNZ is up for deletion. I have added some correct information to the page (it had previous had information about WLVZ on it). If you want to vote and then add some more to it, please feel free. - NeutralHomerTalk • April 5, 2009 @ 13:21

I've weighed in on the discussion, added third-party references to the article, and expanded it a bit. Where we'll face trouble on this one is that while all licensed stations are notable, this one doesn't yet have its license and is thus vulnerable. Still, the sourcing I've added should get this one through the AfD process, if the discussion remains fair-minded. - Dravecky (talk) 14:18, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
I hope so, if it is deleted we could always cite KCFF as a notable future station and if KCFF is notable then WKNZ is notable as well. We will cross that bridge when we get there. Thanks for your updating of the page. - NeutralHomerTalk • April 5, 2009 @ 15:33

Another Station Up for Deletion

WNRG-FM is up for deletion...and rightly so, there is no WNRG-FM....but there is a WNRG-LP. I thought you would like to take the lead on this one and update WNRG-FM for the correct information for the low power station and then move it to WNRG-LP. If you are busy, let me know and I will be happy to do it. - NeutralHomerTalk • April 7, 2009 @ 05:53

There is nothing of salvage value in the current WNRG-FM article and it's both unlicensed and unreferenced so I've voted a fairly strong "delete" on this one. I have, however, put together a new article for WNRG-LP so that licensed broadcaster is now taken care of. As this eliminates any remote need to keep the valueless -FM article, you might revisit your opinion at AfD. - Dravecky (talk) 07:11, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay, master, time to take me to school again! I'd purposefully left WNRG-LP off that dab page, as I thought the fact that the two records for the station in the FCC's database were marked as CP MOD and APP respectively meant that it wasn't actually a fully-licensed station yet, and wouldn't be considered notable. I've really only ever looked for LIC. Am I reading too much/little into that field in the records? Mlaffs (talk) 12:21, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
No, you're not reading too much into it, and I wouldn't have created the article except for two issues: 1) the minor WNRG-FM drama that raised the issue and 2) the -LP station has been on the air actually broadcasting for 3.5 years under that construction permit. I don't know what the heck is taking the FCC so long to act here but I don't feel we're acting prematurely on this station. - Dravecky (talk) 15:27, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
You see, I've learned something new, as I didn't realize that you were even allowed to broadcast until you were licensed unless you were planning on being, you know, "unlicensed". You know what's really weird about this? On the station's website, their history section talks about moving their Palm Bay outlet from 107.9 to 103.3 a couple of years ago, which made me think that maybe they've just given up on the construction permit at 107.9 and that was why it had never hit LIC status. But when I check the FCC, there's nothing on file for Palm Bay at 103.3. They also show a 103.3 for Cocoa Beach in their logo, but also nothing on file with the FCC for that - in fact, the licensee for WNRG-LP doesn't have anything on file at 103.3 for the entire state. According to the FCC, this CP MOD at 107.9 is also off air, which clearly doesn't jibe with the logo that the station is using on their website (which, for what it's worth, is slightly different than the logo being used on the article). Curious … Mlaffs (talk) 16:09, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
My thinking was that WNRG-FM could be redirected to WNRG-LP. But since WNRG-LP is created, all is fixed and well with the world. Thanks for the help. - NeutralHomerTalk • April 7, 2009 @ 17:25
No worries. It was just simpler to start with a fresh canvas. - Dravecky (talk) 17:27, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Announcement of intention to make COI edits

Hi Dravecky

Please look at this edit and see if you can think of the correct way to address this (sweetly honest) intention to violate Wikipedia policies.

Regards, Bongomatic 21:39, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Sweet, maybe, but for naught since there appear to be no independent third-party sources to back up any claim of notability. The one article I found would be perfect... except look who wrote it. - Dravecky (talk) 21:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
I didn't mean the article, I meant the user—what is the best way to inform the editor of the purpose of WP, what it is not, and COI guidelines? Bongomatic 22:16, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah. Engage the person in polite conversation, point them to the policies and guidelines, offer to help them bring the article up to standards if possible, and explain why (in this instance) the last of third-party sources to prove notability will keep this from surviving as an article. Based on the last deletion discussion, I'm just glad that this is a different person for this go-round. Good luck! - Dravecky (talk) 22:25, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Part of the motivation of the puppetmaster User:ItsLassieTime appears to have been to collect GA's and DYK's. It has been opined (though not investigated) that the purpose of the socks might have been to generate support for items like that. And so the question is, valid redirect or does it deserve its own article? If it's the former, I'd be inclined to take it off the list. Most of the ones that are on the list and marked as "currently a redirect" are along the lines of the religious stations that are affiliates of one of the monster networks, but appeared to have their own programming, local staff, etc. and so might be considered independently notable. Irony at WJEC

I'm just finishing cleaning up the aftermath of your renaming of the article for radio station WJEC, and one of the incoming links to WJEC was your talk page archive #3 which included this text from you: "Image:WJEC.png has a perfectly good fair use rationale. The problem is that someone else has moved the article from WJEC to Welsh Joint Education Committee. But, because this is Wikipedia, it is my fault that the the user who moved the article did not update the image's fair use rationale, in just the same it will be my fault the next time someone decides to update the fair use rationale guidelines, making all images I've uploaded in the past invalid." I thought you'd appreciate the irony that this time it was your move of the article at WJEC that required the updating of a fair use template (this time for the radio station's logo). It's no big deal—I just thought you'd get the same kind of chuckle out of this that I did. - Dravecky (talk) 04:19, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

I guess there is a certain sense of irony!
Technically, I didn't move the article, but as I requested the move, I did spend a while fixing some incoming links (here, here, here and here). Alas, another user changed one of my edits, which is where you came in to fix it.
I deliberately left the radio station's fair use rationale because the excellent FairuseBot now fixes these rationales automatically. The previous issue about the exam board's logo was because BetacommandBot found the image and rudely shout at me, when I'd done nothing wrong (hence the rant which you quoted above). Luckily, that bot has now been banned.
An extended version of the discussion is available, if you're interested.
Thank you for updating the radio station's rationale. This is the way Wikipedia should work: users working together, not bots shouting at people.
Thanks. - Green Tentacle (talk) 13:53, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I meant your original move of WJEC to WJEC 106.5 FM on 5 April after you'd edited the radio station article to change its apparent name and remove the disambiguation hatnote. - Dravecky (talk) 15:45, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh, right. Well the intention was to then move the exam board to WJEC, but this proved impossible (I wasn't aware of the rule change banning page moves over redirects). I kind of froze doing anything then until everything was resolved through the official channels. - Green Tentacle (talk) 17:49, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok Then But Do You mind if I put the New Call letters in the description of the page and when it becomes offical, do you mind if I change the name from WXMM to WVHT? - unsigned comment left at 20:34 27 April 2009 (UTC) by Bbabybear02

If and when the call letters are changed, the proper procedure is to update the existing article then move it to the new call sign. Do not add any new call sign to the article in any way until it's been made official by the FCC. - Dravecky (talk) 01:36, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
According to the Call Sign Query site from the FCC, the new call sign will be WVHT. It was taken by Max Media on Monday the 27th. - NeutralHomerTalk • April 28, 2009 @ 01:42
That's great, and when it becomes official, changes can be made. - Dravecky (talk) 01:48, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I know...just wanted to update you, so you know everyone was on the right track :) - NeutralHomerTalk • April 28, 2009 @ 01:49

If you have some time, could you take a look at the WJMA-FM page. The History section, in particular, needs some work, but I am just not sure what to do with it. There are alot of mismatched sections and alot of sections without references. Since I am still "lurking" from that run-in on the WSLK page, would you mind taking a look at your leisure? Take Care...NeutralHomerTalk • April 28, 2009 @ 18:05

I've done a bit of poking at it but, yes, it needs better referencing. - Dravecky (talk) 05:18, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
