Holiday greeting requests

I'm reluctant to complete "happy holiday" type mass mailing requests, which mark a holiday but have nothing to do with editing. Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines notes in its lead that talk pages in userspaces are used for discussion and communication between users [and] discussion should be directed solely toward the improvement of the encyclopedia. So I feel that these delve into WP:NOTSOCIALNETWORK. If it was about a holiday edit-a-thon or special main page activity organized for a holiday, that'd be okay. But to send a group of users a message purely related to a holiday (e.g.: this) seems outside the bounds of mass mailings, and when we aren't sure the group observe that holiday it may be perceived as spam. I think these are the sorts of message which might better be delivered user-to-user, personally and in the spirit of Wikipedia:Kindness Campaign. (I tend to receive a couple such messages around New Year's.) Thoughts? – Reidgreg (talk) 16:45, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

I sent one of these recently. I was hesitant to do so, but I didn't see that it went against WP:SPAM and sent it anyway. In my opinion, a "happy holiday" mass message is okay every once in a while, but could be considered spam if they are sent routinely. - ZLEA T\C 18:28, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
@Reidgreg and ZLEA: I have formated the newsletter see Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Newsletter/1 ___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk (We are the champions, my friends) 18:32, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
@CAPTAIN MEDUSA: I'd have no problem sending that newsletter, if you want to put that on your request below. (Although I suspect 2015 South Bend, Indiana mayoral election may be a false positive containing "India".) I'd still I'd have to do my due diligence checking the formatting and images, but content-wise it looks good. For the earlier message, maybe it'd be best to post that on the WikiProject India talk page; that way others can add short replies and you may get a little more of a sense of community in well-wishing. – Reidgreg (talk) 22:18, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
These are iffy for sure. If a WikiProject wants to include this as part of its communications it seems a bit more acceptable, if Joe Editor makes a list and adds people to it, not so much. A good factor to review is to look at what is the distribution list, how was it made (was it opt-in?), for opt-in's what did people think they were opting-in to. — xaosflux Talk 18:32, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
Xaosflux, How do I get members of the project to join? If they wish to i.e. put an ad on the WikiProject talk page? ___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk (We are the champions, my friends) 18:37, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
If the way the project has been communicating is a project talk, then yes - posting there about a new mailing list they can opt-in to is normally accepted. — xaosflux Talk 19:01, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

note re possible technical glitch

I tried to add a request just now, but somehow the template seemed to not display correctly. you can check the edit that I made to add the request, on the page history. can anyone advise? sorry for any technical errors. thanks! --Sm8900 (talk) 23:11, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

@Sm8900: I'm not seeing it in the edit history; maybe the preview looked so bad that you didn't save? When you click on the add request link, it should open an edit window with some pre-generated text. Edit the text between the arrows →← (removing the arrows in the process) to fill-out the request form. The first field (topic) tells us the general context of the request. The second field is the mailing list of intended recipients, the third is the subject of the mailing as it should appear on the destination talk pages, the fourth is the page where you have saved the message you want sent (or the text you want sent if it's a simple message), and the last is the delivery date (mostly used if a request is to be held until a certain date and then sent). For more information, see Wikipedia:Mass message senders § Requesting a mailing. Hope this helps. – Reidgreg (talk) 15:19, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
hi @Reidgreg:. thanks for your reply. here is the link to that edit: Link to edit history. not sure what happened there. I appreciate your help. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 16:04, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
@Sm8900: Oh, okay. That's Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Mass message sender, you should take it up on that talk page. I'm not an admin, so that's outside my wheelhouse. This forum is for users to request a mass message to be sent, not to request the user right to send mass messages themselves. – Reidgreg (talk) 16:42, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Opting out of mass messages should not generate new messages of another kind

There is a proposal that affects mass message sending at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Opting out of mass messages should not generate new messages of another kind. Any input on that proposal would be helpful. --Guy Macon (talk) 01:27, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

Update mailing list

Would anyone be able to help update this mailing list? When created six months ago, it included all non-blocked users with 10 or more good article reviews (as per here), and 1 or more edits in the last year. Now, I would like to expand the list to all non-blocked users with 5 or more good article reviews, and 1 or more edits in the last year. If someone could help make this update, or let me know how to go about doing so myself, I would appreciate it. (I originally asked Terasail, who created the list, but who also, I now realize, has not edited in the last month.) Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 09:12, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

@Usernameunique: I found Wikipedia:Wikipedians by good article reviews with about 715 editors having 10+ reviews, if that list can somehow be checked against recent edits. Maybe it would be easier to add names that don't already appear on the older list, seeing that they were active since that list was created? I don't have time to investigate further right now. – Reidgreg (talk) 14:45, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
Reidgreg, the easiest way may be to start from scratch with all editors having 5+ reviews, and then removing a) editors with no edits in the past year, b) blocked editors, and c) editors who have manually removed themselves from the list. Terasail seemed to use an automated system for the first two steps, and there are only half a dozen who fall into the third category. With that said, the most important part is getting the message out before the drive begins, even if the list is not reformatted by then. Any chance you would be able to get the message out to the existing list, following the steps below? Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 18:07, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

Can I request a mass message in advance?

Hi! I want to send a mass message to WP:FINANCE participants on April 1st. Is this something I can do in advance? A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 20:52, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

@A. C. Santacruz: Yes, there's no problem in requesting a MassMessage with the requested delivery date a week away. That gives us lots of time to check it over. It would then be placed 'on hold' until the date arrives. – Reidgreg (talk) 06:12, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Split archives into discussion & requests

I am proposing to split the 6 archives into Wikipedia talk:Mass message senders/Discussions/Archive 1... & Wikipedia talk:Mass message senders/Requests/Archive 1... To make it easier to search through archives for what you are looking for. I am happy to do this myself and set up the archive templates to show both, just looking to see if there are any objections or issues with this change? Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 15:09, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

I don't really care one way or the other, so long as it is consistent and doesn't break any bots. — xaosflux Talk 15:31, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
As I previously discussed, I suggest putting requests on a separate page (either moving them to a new subpage, or moving discussions on a new subpage). Then standard second-level heading archiving by a bot can be used for each, into separate archives. isaacl (talk) 20:23, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
Maybe put the page with requests in the Wikipedia namespace, like WP:RM, WP:AfD, WP:CfD, WP:TfD, etc. Perhaps Wikipedia:Mass message senders/Requests with a catchy shortcut. Alternatively, we could move the instructions to a subpage which is transcluded to Wikipedia:Mass message senders, with this main page hosting the requests. This second option would make it easier for requesters to find while keeping the instructions on a separate page to protect them from vandalism. – Reidgreg (talk) 23:31, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
I have gone through all the archives today since I saw that they were seperated properly in archive 7. They all should be properly sorted. I did this in order to prepare for a possible move to "Wikipedia:Mass message senders/Requests" and to just genrally improve searching MMS archives. I know that I proposed this 7 months ago but I finally got round to starting this... Terasail[✉️] 23:43, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Query re Doug Coldwell GAs

See Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Douglas Coldwell GA list re this AN discussion and this implementation plan.

  1. Can mass message sender be used to send a message (still under development in sandbox) to these 233 GA talk pages?
  2. Do I need to convert the list to Talk:Article name, or can the sender do that convert to get from an article name list to an article talk list ?

SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:10, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

@SandyGeorgia yes, I converted for you already to Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Douglas Coldwell GA list/MMStargets. — xaosflux Talk 19:19, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Doug Coldwell GA reviewers

No hurry (I won't need this for a few more days or maybe even a week)!

Followup, for sending a different message to user talk pages, I will need a list of reviewers. From the bottom half only of this page, that is:

can an MMS list of the reviewers be put at:

Thank you :) I will learn to do this myself, but this project is too important/visible for me to mess up on. Several wise editors have advised against using the editor name in the pages, for the same reasoning as used at CCI. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:04, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Split requests into new page

Hello, after reading and thinking about the comments by Reidgreg and isaacl. I think that there is an argument to be made for splitting requests onto a new page either a subpage or a completley new page (examples Wikipedia:Mass message senders/Requests or Wikipedia:Mass Message Requests). I created Wikipedia:Mass message senders/Requests as an example of what the page could be. I took the core components of Wikipedia:Mass message senders, rewrote them specifically with the idea that the reader would be someone requesting MMS, and then adding the MMS request section at the bottom. It is currently just a first attempt and I realise that I completley missed the Guidance for use section which should proably be included. The way I see it is: You don't see a section on "Becoming an administrator" when you try to edit the main page, why should you see "Requesting rights" and "General discussion" of MMS when trying to request a new message to be sent? It can just overload and act as a barrier for a user with no good reason that I can see as to why this is the case. With this change it can also mean that the page Wikipedia:Mass message senders can be rewritten with a focus on the user right with help for using the tool and what it is rather than a focus on making requests.

Overall just looking for thoughts on this and the new page I created and the idea in general, not looking to reshuffle everything at this very moment. Terasail[✉️] 01:50, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

Sorry for just seeing this comment now; another side effect of having discussion and requests on the same page is that it's easy for me to overlook discussion. I agree that it makes sense to have a separate page for those who want to make mass message requests, on which the requests can be made and then archived by a bot, separate from discussion about mass messaging in general. Those discussions can continue to be held on this talk page. isaacl (talk) 23:11, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Letting folks with MMS perm also create MMS lists

They currently can't do this because they don't have the editcontentmodel permission / access to Special:ChangeContentModel. Is there any interest in getting this added to the MMS toolkit? Seems pretty uncontroversial but wanted to double check first. If we get enough support here, next step would probably be village pump, then Phabricator. Thanks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:51, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Support Honestly, I thought that was already included in that right. Deauthorized. (talk) 22:08, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
If I understand correctly, users with the editcontentmodel permission can change the content model of a page to Javascript. Because this is a security concern, I think the bar would be raised for gaining mass messaging privileges if it included editcontentmodel. Thus I don't feel it should be added. isaacl (talk) 22:11, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Why is being able to change the content model of a page to JavaScript a security concern? - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 22:27, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Javascript code runs in the user's browser and thus in the context of the user in its interactions with Wikipedia (that is, it can do anything the user can do). It can also be used to create UI elements that might confuse the user into entering privileged information. Thus managing which Javascript files are accessible to users is important for security. Being able to change the content model means that pages that aren't normally expected to be Javascript files (such as ones not ending in .js) could have their content model changed so they can execute as Javascript. A clever malicious user could find a way to exploit this. isaacl (talk) 22:39, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Yes, but it does have to be added to a user's skin/common.js or skin/common.css Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:03, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
I appreciate Terasail posting the links to the previous discussions (one of which I participated in), and in those conversations, others have expressed a similar viewpoint to yours about the degree of risk. It does require someone being fooled into loading the Javascript (thus the need for cleverness), whether it's through a malicious URL, being given incorrect instructions, taking advantage of common typos, or something else. Of course this can already be done today with Javascript code on pages ending in .js. Nonetheless I am still wary of expanding the attack surface in an unexpected manner that might elude any current precautions taken by users. I agree with the views expressed in those earlier discussions that it would be better to implement a solution that just allowed mass message senders to create mailing lists. isaacl (talk) 06:31, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Massmessage is still a pretty high trust permission, and it's not given out to every person who wants it. If a user wanted to cause damage, they could get their common.js into another user's common.js. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:34, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Mass message senders don't need the ability to set other content types, so in my view the current workaround is sufficient, versus moving to a different workaround. Although I think there is more caution now in granting the mass messaging privilege, back around its start I remember it being given to someone who just said they'd like to help out with sending mass messages. Delivering mass messages inappropriately can be disruptive to users, but isn't a security risk, and so I don't think mass message senders are screened with potential security issues in mind. isaacl (talk) 07:06, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Being able to change a page to javascript doesn't do anything to a user's client unless they add it to skin or common js, all users can put malicious code in their own js files and trick users into adding them into their common and skin js. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 10:52, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Oppose This was previously discussed a few years ago, that it should be added as part of the right and this was rejected. As TEs and Admins both have more substantial guidelines for granting and criteria for revocation it seems best to keep a right which can change any wikitext page into css (or whatever) more limited especially considering there is a maintained list of available MMS lists on this page already. It should probably be more widley discussed on VPR to see if there are any further arguments to be made. Terasail[✉️] 23:28, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
I also found Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 134#restrict editcontentmodel permission which mentions phab:T145344 which is highly concerning. I have not yet read through the task or discussions properly so I could quite easily change my position on this. Terasail[✉️] 23:41, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Oppose per Terasail; the security issues presented above are overblown IMO, but this violates the single-responsibility principle and the principle of least privilege and will doom us to an eventual repeat of Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 86#Restoring to Account Creators the Ability to Edit Editnotices * Pppery * it has begun... 14:18, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Let massmessage perm use Special:CreateMassMessageList

phab:T92795, which would involve letting anyone with the massmessage right use Special:CreateMassMessageList, looks like a simple and good solution. It solves the problem without needing to assign anyone change content model permissions. Thoughts on that approach? –Novem Linguae (talk) 07:32, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Support as this alleviates the above concerns while still allowing massmessage senders to create lists. - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 13:22, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Weak oppose The current system is working just fine; this makes the permission model more complicated for little apparent benefit. * Pppery * it has begun... 14:18, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Support though the concerns raised above are mostly invalid as any user can convince someone to add malicious javascript to their common.js or skin.js. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 15:36, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Support - Back when I used MMS regularly (now that I think of it, I should probably ask that it me removed as I no longer use it), I found moving the shells to be quite inconvenient. We don't have empty draft articles lying around in case someone wants to create a new article, so I see no harm in deleting old shells and allowing MMS users to create new shells. - ZLEA T\C 20:48, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
  • phab:T92795 has been open for a long time, I suggest this is solved by allowing MMS holders to create lists, but not needing to mess with all content models. Similar to how we have workflows that allow editors to create JS, CSS, and Scrubito models already, as denoted at phab:T92795#4528842xaosflux Talk 21:58, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
From the proposal above, that is what is proposed in the phab comment I linked above (explicitly have the workflow permission check use this permission). — xaosflux Talk 22:01, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Category pages disallowed for MassMessage

I thought I had found a quick way to post a notification to several category pages (In the category: namespace, not category talk:) created by the same editor, reducing the amount of mass messages to paste manually (see User:Buidhe/MMStemp). Unfortunately, category pages are blocked for MMS. How do you guys feel about changing this restriction, because I think this functionality is really helpful for bundled CfD nominations. (t · c) buidhe 20:38, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

A cfd nomination shouldn't be a new section at the bottom of the page anyway, so that would still produce the wrong sort of edit. — xaosflux Talk 21:53, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
It's not ideal, but I think it meets the notification requirements and I think there should be better solutions than expecting someone to manually copy paste to a large number of pages. (t · c) buidhe 21:58, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Question about MMS lists

Hi, I'm wondering if someone who is more familiar with MMS lists than I am could take a look at this. I added someone to a MMS list at their own request (diff) but in the history it says that this edit was −7,233 bytes. Is there some kind of bug? (t · c) buidhe 04:40, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Administrators' Newsletter with broken syntax

I wanted to let you know, in case the issue wasn't fixed, that the last administrators' newsletter had broken wiki syntax that I had to fix. The arbcom column did not have the correct div tag. Here are the two edits I had to make in my archive to fix it.

Is it possible to check that there aren't any other problems with this? Or maybe someone vandalized my talk page before the post got archived? I do not know. Awesome Aasim 16:01, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

@Awesome Aasim: We are aware of this issue. The January newsletter didn't get substituted correctly, causing syntax errors on every subscriber's talk page. En-Jungwon has done a great job fixing almost all the pages. You can see the related thread here. – DreamRimmer (talk) 16:14, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
I seem to have added an extra </div> below MediaWiki message delivery's signature. That might be what's causing the broken syntax. It is also causing lint errors on those talk pages. -- EN-Jungwon 17:03, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Not done Malformed request: there's no mailing list attached to the request and drafts submitted to AfC don't need unsolicited reviews, they are added to a submissions page and may take three months or more to review. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:59, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
But what if they end up qualifying under criterion G13 for speedy deletion and an administrator deletes it? Faster than Thunder (talk) 14:58, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Faster than Thunder I am not sure that this is an issue. There are no currently submitted drafts that are over 3 months old, as shown in this section. The current mailing category you have submitted is not approprate since it includes some template and wikipedia pages, as well as messaging ~570 users each time an old draft nears deletion seems innapropraite without further discussion from WP:AFC members. At this time it appears this request is more to expediate your own draft request which has been sitting for 1 month. I suggest just having patience with the system, your draft will be reviewed soon. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 17:27, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Faster than Thunder: AFC drafts that are submitted for review do not get tagged for G13 and are not at risk of deletion. You still had 5 more months before you hit the 6 month mark, and even if it was at risk of G13 all you need to do is make a trivial change to the article and it'll be avoided for another 6 months. Please don't spam random people with messages asking them to review your draft. Would someone please deliver WikiProject Finance & Investment's first monthly newsletter?

Here are the details

Thanks for your assistance! A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 11:24, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

@A. C. Santacruz I am wary to send to the category for the whole WikiProject since it makes it a bit of a pain to remove users if they don't wish to recieve a monthly newsletter (This is obviously different for one off WikiProject announcements). Perhaps using one of the MMS shells above, adding the users and then sending might be a better approach? I will think on this more and any other perspective is appreciated. Pings to other MMS users active here if they have any thoughts on this: User:TheDoctorWho, User:Reidgreg, User:xaosflux, User:Nnadigoodluck. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 14:02, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
I'm reviving an inactive WikiProject so my idea is to send this as a one-off with instructions on how to sign up for future ones, Terasail. A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 14:08, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Ah I see that my usual case of needing to read 3 times before responding has appeared again. I may have just glanced over the page read the title, ect... and thought the plan was to use the cat for each release. My mistake this looks good to me. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 14:11, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
@A. C. Santacruz I will send this on the 1st. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 14:12, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Comment: Message looks to be well formatted, all tags closed, free image, and links don't go anywhere unexpected (ie: not an April Fools' mailing). – Reidgreg (talk) 14:53, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
I used the formatting from GOCE, Reidgreg :) I love their newsletter style! A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 14:56, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
One problem with that category, is that some of it is a mess - for example it contains pages like User:Irtapil/Interesting_Projects and User:The Random Editor/Userboxes, which are not good MMS delivery targets. Copy pasting to a shell, and curating the pages shouldn't be hard with a little text editing. — xaosflux Talk 14:37, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
@A. C. Santacruz and Terasail: courtesy ping. Reidgreg (talk) 11:26, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
Yeah I was just going to go through the cat and put them in the mailing list before I sent. Terasail[✉️] 11:30, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
 Doing... Terasail[✉️] 14:31, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes Sent: Checked 5 pages, appears to have sent correctly. It sent to 51 pages (Users in the category who are still active). Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 14:33, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, Terasail! How do I remove users from the mailing list so only those wishing to receive the newsletter sign up? I tried to remove one person but it kind of broke the page. A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 14:54, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
It didn't break the page MMS content pages are just having a rough month.. Someone broke them somewhere and there is probably a phab ticket about it somewhere. You just need to WP:Purge the page to fix it. The remove button will do it or you can click "edit" manually find the user and remove them. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 15:08, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
I think I managed to do it correctly now, thanks Terasail :) A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 15:27, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Yeah I just purged the page for you. I would suggest not completely removing the list as everyone who got the message would probably assume that they were signed up to it, but this is up to you. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 15:32, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Terasail that makes sense. After seeing the number of page views just today I think I should just leave everyone in the list due to them assuming they were signed up. A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 15:34, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Would someone please deliver this mass notice to wikiprojects

Here are the details

Thanks for your assistance! Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 03:35, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

Im not sure how good the idea of advertising a userscript across 1146 WikiProjects rather than a more targeted approach. @Headbomb Is there any specific reasoning behind the request, there are already 298 active users with the script and 456 with it overall, im not sure how much this would benefit people. As far as I know, there has not been consensus about promotion across all WikiProjects and this is not quite the same as mailing a list of people that have already signed up to a WikiProject. Terasail[✉️] 10:04, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
This is a script that will be useful to every Wikiprojects. The reasoning behind the request is that it's a mature, well-tested script, with wide adoption and praises, and is one of the most powerful ways to detect bad sourcing in articles. It's been advertised on script newsletters and sourcing-specific noticeboards like WP:FRINGEN and WP:RSN, but that only reaches a limited number of eyeballs. Right now we have ~450 people using the script, but sourcing is something that affects all projects, and if there's a, let's say car-specific source that's garbage but widely used, well the people that would know about that are the WikiProject Cars people. And if the car people tell me 'hey, theses sources are bad', I can add them to the script, then everyone else benefits. Likewise for if there's a widely-used garbage source related to Indian railways.
So that's more or less the reasoning. If there was a monthly Wikiproject newsletter that was sent to all projects, I'd use that instead, but that doesn't exist. So the alternative is a one-off message, which I'd rather not spam manually through AWB. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:45, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
@Terasail: Any updates on this? I'd really rather not have to send these through AWB. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 15:16, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
@Headbomb  Doing... I have thought about this and it seems productive to publicise this tool, I haven't found any policies that go against doing this. The tool appears to be useful to all WikiProjects and may assist users in maintaining articles within their respecticve scope, in regard to correct referencing. Terasail[✉️] 15:41, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Massive thanks! Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 15:58, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes Sent @Headbomb Appears to have sent correctly to all pages. If there were any problems please let me know. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 16:05, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
@Terasail: Great, thanks. Can you reset my sandbox to the previous content model? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 16:06, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
@Headbomb  Done I changed it since the list you had was unable to be detected by the tool. It should be good and back to normal now. Terasail[✉️] 16:11, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
I saw this being delivered on my watchlists—I'm not sure I'd have approved of mass distribution to project talk pages as a valid form of promotion, but it's out now, and I do hope we continue developing/distributing better tools to discourage bad sources. Sdkbtalk 19:46, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

@Sdkb Just to explain futher my reasoning. There are many users who might be unaware of userscripts and their uses, and with no place for new users to easily find userscripts to "start with" and experiment with them I thought that this will publicise the userscript as well as userscripts more generally to newer users which might lead to futher improvements and maintenance overall. New users often find their way to at least one WikiProject and this seemed a resonable "one off" to promote both this and all userscripts in general, userscripts can seem overwhelming if a new user is sent to WP:USL rather than being pointed to a well tested and widley used userscript to start with. I don't really intend to send anymore of these out unless there is an interest in such messages. Terasail[✉️] 21:38, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

I saw this message at one of the pages I visit, and responded. Later on, I saw it again and thought my reply message had been deleted, until I realized it was a duplicate message, somewhere else. Then I found this. Two thoughts: in general, mass mailings should be placed on a unique page, and selectively transcluded to the masses with an edit link that goes to the unique page, so that all comments are unified in a single thread, and all participants can see them. The other thought is, this message seems like spam to me, at least, on these 564 pages that Google knows about. Someone above said there are more than a thousand copies of it. Wouldn't one message at WP:VPM have been enough? I have lots of useful little templates and regular expressions and all sorts of cool stuff that I think everybody should know about; how about To USD round for example: can I get that sent to a thousand projects? (If you can't tell I'm kidding, I am; please don't send it!) This is a travesty. This whole mass-mailing thing should be tightened up, or abolished. (I should add, I *like* the script, but that's not my point here.) Mathglot (talk) 10:58, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Yes Sent: @AryKun Sorry for the delay I only noticed the request today. I have checked and it appears to have sent correctly. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 15:01, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
@Terasail: Just wanted to ask if there are any extra steps when the mailing list is in a section, rather than having its own page. In particular, there are some usernames linked further down the page, and I think an older version of the mailer script would have sent to them as well... but this one seems not to have done so (as intended). – Reidgreg (talk) 15:14, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
@Reidgreg There are no names that I can see actualy on the page apart from the list. It should just pick up from Mailing list member and nothing else but in this case all other name links are transcluded from other pages and would never be picked up anyway. But no I didn't take any extra steps to mail this but it is probably a good idea to always check when this sort of mailing list is used. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 15:18, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done @Starship SN20 I am not going to complete this request at this time since you have individually contacted 3/4 users on the list (No talk section for Sub31k). For this reason I don't think that a mass message is useful in this situation, and the conversations would probably be best to contiue in their respective sections and to just add a new talk section to Sub31k. Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! For more information and registration, please check out meta:Wikimania 2022/San Francisco Meetup.

The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.

In case we run out of space, it's first-come-first-serve so let us know soon! Hope to see you there.

On hold @MurielMary, the content of the mailing won't work, can you fix it? Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 11:08, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Hi, I'm not sure how to format the content. It's not a newsletter - we'd like to post a statement drawing editors' attention to a project that's described on our meta page here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Aotearoa_New_Zealand#Wikipedian-at-Large_(WPAL)_project Can you pls advise how to format the mail content or point me towards a model/similar mailing to copy? TIA. MurielMary (talk) 11:38, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
@MurielMary, if you write and format the message on a page, then I can add that as the page to send. If you ping me when you've done that, I'll be happy to send it on Monday. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 11:42, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
@Zippybonzo Thank you! Is this suitably formatted? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_New_Zealand/Announcement/July_2023
MurielMary (talk) 12:04, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Yep, that will be fine, I’ll send it on Monday. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 12:12, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
@Zippybonzo: Has this been forgotten about? * Pppery * it has begun... 02:06, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Errr, yes, let me quickly send that. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:31, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
@MurielMary, I am not entirely sure sending an unsolicited MassMessage to all New Zealand wikipedians is a good idea, though I think sending it to WPNZ is fine, which I have just sent, though I would be happy to send it if consensus found it was acceptable to send an unsolicited message to 500 users. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:37, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for that! Yes, good point about the unsolicited mailout. We (the Aotearoa NZ User Group) will ponder that one! MurielMary (talk) 10:35, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Seems  Done. Thanks! Aaron Liu (talk) 14:55, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Yes Sent checked a few pages, it's sent correctly. However, there is an issue with the timestamp, as it shows that it was sent one hour ago, which I think might be due to your signature timestamp. I haven't changed your signature, as all previous newsletters contain the contributor's signature instead of MediaWiki message delivery. – DreamRimmer (talk) 15:06, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
DreamRimmer one way to get around this is to write as the signature: (manual pasted signature, excluding the date) ~~~~~ which will give the current timestamp (for instance, <b style="color:black; font-family: Tahoma">DreamRimmer</b> (talk) ~~~~~, which displays as DreamRimmer (talk) 04:45, 18 January 2024 (UTC)).
