As per previous - I have retired from the wiki and no longer wish to receive automated messages from this system. If a relevent editor could assist me in doing so, I would be very grateful. Hchc2009 (talk) 22:54, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

Updates

Hi all. Just wanted to post about a few new things relating to mass messaging:

  • The mass message extension now respects {{Bots}} - users with {{bots|optout=MassMessage} will now be skipped when mass messages are delivered
  • I made a new userbox, {{User wikipedia/Massmessage-sender2}}, which you may want to use

Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 07:47, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

For any mass message senders: if you ever send a message and then realize that you make a typo, messed up on a link, etc., you can ping me to run User:DannyS712 bot to fix all of the instances of the mistake without triggering the new messages notification. --DannyS712 (talk) 10:11, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

DannyS712, you're a target of the mailer. Any thoughts? RhinosF1(chat)(status)(contribs) 17:48, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
@RhinosF1: 2 questions - have you discussed this with the wikiproject council / other former members? You say on behalf of WikiProject Apple Inc. Second, you may want to format the message a bit differently - the image makes the text look off, and having the link in a section heading messes with some archive bots (I think). Other than that, it should be okay. --DannyS712 (talk) 21:33, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
DannyS712, Never noticed issues with archive bots due to that before, How do you suggest proceeding in regards to text issues?
And yes, I've spoken to another WikiProject member who is assisting. RhinosF1(chat)(status)(contribs) 21:42, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Ah, beat me to it. All images are appropriately licensed; the newsletter has some {{col}} templates that don't appear to be needed, but they aren't causing a problem either. The last sentence under Project news has two independent clauses so I might have used a semicolon or made it two sentences, and the dmy date near the end should have the comma after the year but not before it. But I'm a nit-picker; looks good otherwise. – Reidgreg (talk) 18:17, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Reidgreg see User:ZLEA/sandbox/Numismatics newsletter for the reason for the {{col}} templates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ZLEA (talkcontribs) 14:21, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
@ZLEA and DannyS712: I figured it was probably something like that, a format set up for future newsletters when you anticipate having more to report. Not a problem; we just have to watch that the <div>s and cols are closed so that style doesn't trail down the rest of the talk page. Thanks for sending it, Danny. – Reidgreg (talk) 18:36, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Sorry this is a little late. Images are cc licensed and message is formatted. I adjusted the opt-out for the multiple mailing lists, which I temporarily combined at User:Reidgreg/sandbox2.  Doing... Reidgreg (talk) 12:55, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Not sure @RightCowLeftCoast: When I preview the message at Special:MassMessage, the panoramic picture displays at full width, which throws off all of the formatting (hiding the right-aligned images and some text offscreen on my browser). I fixed some of the parameters for Template:Panorama but couldn't get it to work in preview. Does anyone have any ideas about this? – Reidgreg (talk) 13:25, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Reidgreg I sent the message to my test accounts and found no issue (see User talk:ZLEA2#Southern California Wiknic & Bonfire invitation - Test). - ZLEA T\C 16:36, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Yes Sent. ZLEA, I sent it and checked five random talk pages. Four of them show the panoramic pic at full width instead of in a horizontally scrolling window. Compare User_talk:AB_Blake#Southern_California_Wiknic_&_Bonfire_invitation with User_talk:Laurel_Wreath_of_Victors#Southern_California_Wiknic_&_Bonfire_invitation. – Reidgreg (talk) 18:34, 1 August 2019 (UTC) A previous mass mailing from Art+Feminism 2019 Los Angeles Events! was missing a |} to close a style box. I added that on AB Blake's talk page but it didn't fix the panorama box, which is causing the whole talk page to render wide. – Reidgreg (talk) 18:37, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict × 2) I was thinking that pages with special CSS do not render images the same way normal pages do, but that makes more sense. - ZLEA T\C 18:46, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Reidgreg If it's not an error in a previous MMS, then it may be due to special CSS. Do the other pages with the problem have special CSS? - ZLEA T\C 18:51, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
I think you're right. Three of the four were fine after I added the |} to the previous mass mail, but AB Blake's is different. The talk page sections are all inside a big box, however that's achieved, it's a box-within-a-box problem. – Reidgreg (talk) 19:06, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

    •  Done @Path slopu: Message went out. Checked five random recipients and it looked fine. It was not sent to the "former member" or other userspaces namespaces linked on the mailing list page. Two users had opted out of global mass messages, and users Hadfadkar and Daphne Lantier had errors – easiest thing would be to send the message to them manually. – 20:07, 14 October 2019 (UTC)Reidgreg (talk)

There does not appear to be text at Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Members indicating that members are opting in to mass messages by putting their user names on that page. It looks like messages should be sent to Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Newsletter/Members instead, and clear text should be added to that page indicating that user names listed on that page will receive mass messages from WP India. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:42, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

On hold @Path slopu: please clean up User:Path slopu/News/Mole/Delivery - I removed inactive users up to 'Iamthealchemist', but there are many left and you need to check them - we shouldn't be messaging users that haven't edited in a while. I'll likely be unable to send the message when you're done, so please leave a note here for someone else. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 17:45, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
Comment: What's wrong with the mailing list? Or are you trying to create a mailing list from the "guest book", checking contribs and removing those who are inactive? – Reidgreg (talk) 21:54, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
@Reidgreg: the page you listed above, Wikipedia:WikiProject Science/Guest book#Members is not in the mass mailing list format (c.f. Wikipedia:Mass_message_senders#Before_making_your_request). Do you have a list on another page? — xaosflux Talk 22:04, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Pinging @Path slopu: who made the request. It looks like DannyS712 already started to set up a proper list, but I'm not sure about his criteria regarding 'inactive users'. – Reidgreg (talk) 22:14, 23 October 2019 (UTC). From the last several removed, they seem to have had no edits for the past 3+ years. I'll narrow that to 1 year and go through the rest of the list now, or as much as I can. – Reidgreg (talk) 22:25, 23 October 2019 (UTC). Okay, finished, about halved the list with a lot of inactives, some indefinite blocks, and some who changed their usernames. Sending. – Reidgreg (talk) 22:52, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
  •  Done @Path slopu: No errors reported, checked five random talk pages and it looks good. Users Guy Macon and Dchmelik have opted out of global mass messages, but you may as well leave them on the list in case that's temporary and they later opt back in. A little late for 6:02 UTC, but them's the breaks. Give us more lead time, and you'll get better results. Reidgreg (talk) 23:08, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712, Reidgreg, and Xaosflux:Thank you for your assistance and for sending the newsletter. I think the mailing list should be moved to Wikispace (Wikiproject Science's) from my userspace because it is not my personal newsletter and it is send for Wikiproject Science. And if it is moved it will be help to send future mailings as a part of Wikiproject rather than a individual's. Please consider. Thank you!--PATH SLOPU 02:47, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

I've moved it to Wikipedia:WikiProject Science/Newsletter/Members. Thank you.PATH SLOPU 03:03, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
@Path slopu: You're welcome. And yes, the mailing list should logically be grouped with the relevant WikiProject. However, please keep a redirect at User:Path slopu/News/Mole/Delivery for at least a couple months (or until the next mailing to that list), as that's the subscribe/unsubscribe link sent with this mass mailing. Use this: #REDIRECT[[Wikipedia:WikiProject Science/Newsletter/Members]]{{Rcat shell|{{R from move}}{{R to project namespace}}}}. – Reidgreg (talk) 04:24, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

On hold @Path slopu: The newsletter is not properly formatted: there is a missing </div>, which will affect the style of all following messages on the talk pages it is sent to (placing all of them within the red-bordered orange box). Please rectify this and ping me back. Otherwise, mailing list formatted and images are CC except one contains a registered trademark of the Wikimedia Foundation; will assume that's okay for on-site use. Reidgreg (talk) 13:29, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
Reidgreg, Rectified. Please check. PATH SLOPU 14:06, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
  •  Done @Path slopu: sent. One error reported: User talk:Andys'edits does not exist (no such user account). Otherwise it went through okay. Checked five random pages and looks good. The contrast is nice at User talk:Lilithmoon1, which is an example of where that missing /div would have caused problems (actually, it's an example of where an extra /div would have caused problems). Please be aware that the unsubscribe links do not point to the mailing list that you used, so you will be responsible for watching changes to those lists and adjusting your mailing list accordingly. Please also note that a participants list is not the same as a mailing list; people should be able to associate with a WikiProject and still opt out of its mailings. Thanks for your attention. – Reidgreg (talk) 14:31, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

@Jonesey95:Thank you for the comment. The given MMS delivery list is a formated list of Wikiproject members WP:KER#Participants. I've only added the names to MMS shell for reducing the job of MMSenders (also removed non-existing users). This is not a newsletter and not a part of any monthly mailings. This is only for informing the recent changes to the Wikiproject and about the new newsletter. You may saw that it is not a part of Newsletter's mailing list. This is my first time doing this so I'm not really sure how the formatting is done, feel free to modify as you see fit. List is just all WikiProjects with an associated infobox request category with over 100 members and this is a one time thing so a unsubscribe link isn't required. ‑‑Trialpears (talk) 01:18, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

information Administrator note I fixed up the mailing list markup, looks like the invite text needs a little work still. — xaosflux Talk 16:07, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
