Requested edit filters (WP:EF/R)

Replacement of Israel with Palestine

  • Task: No knowledge of wikicodes, but it should apply to article namespaces, scanning for unautoconfirmed/IP edits, triggering when mentions of Israel/Hebrew is replaced with words like Palestine/Arabic/Levant.
  • Reason: There is a increase, likely due to recent events in the number of disruptive edits around Israel articles being replaced with irrelevant informations and Palestine mentions.
  • Diffs:

[1][2] IP edit replacing contents. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 00:54, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

I personally don't think this a good candidate for an edit filter because while it's sometimes disruptive this can be contextually dependent and should probably not be disallowed automatically. Philipnelson99 (talk) 01:07, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
@Philipnelson99I see. Where should this belong then? AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 01:37, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
I mean you're in the right place to request an edit filter, I'm just not sure this would be a good edit filter. If restricted to IPs/non-autoconfirmed that might reduce false positivess but I'm not convinced that would eliminate false positives altogether since it's hard to say if all replacements are disruptive. Happy to hear other opinions on it and it's really up to an EFM to decide to implement it. Philipnelson99 (talk) 01:47, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
This is 1154 (hist · log). Note that it logs both Israel -> Palestine and Palestine -> Israel. As Philipnelson99 points out, setting this sort of filter to disallow would be a bad idea, and even warning might open up a can of worms. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 02:59, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
Suffusion of Yellow thanks for pointing out the logging filter, didn't realize it existed. I think logging is really the only reasonable course of action here. If an edit is indeed an issue, it will likely be reverted speedily. Setting a filter to warn when there's a chance that the edit was good faith and not intentionally disruptive seems unproductive to me. Philipnelson99 (talk) 03:09, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
Maybe tagging would work, as any good faith edits wouldn't be reverted but bad faith ones would be easier to see and thus revert? – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 14:41, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
I don't think tagging these filter hits is necessary. Philipnelson99 (talk) 17:31, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
Why do you think that? And I'm just curious that's all. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 18:48, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
I’d like them tagged. I see these changes frequently, usually from IPs. Doug Weller talk 19:19, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
What would you suggest the tag be @Doug Weller? Something like Possible ARBPIA issue maybe? My concern with tagging is the area is a contentious topic and tagging these edits as a possible ARBPIA issue may need consensus elsewhere. Philipnelson99 (talk) 13:44, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Possible a-i issue would be better. It seems obvious enough that I wouldn't think it needed consensus. I wouldn't mention ARBPIA as that's probably too strong. Doug Weller talk 13:52, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Gotcha, as long as the tag isn't too strongly worded then I'm okay with tagging these. Just don't want someone to get the wrong idea that every filter hit has a problem. Philipnelson99 (talk) 14:09, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

References

No rcats?

  • Task: Simple, see created redirects without any rcats, tell the editor to add some rcats.
  • Reason: Too many redirects without rcats.
  • Diffs: I can add links if needed, but seems self explanatory.

Hi! I'm working on WP:WikiProject AfroCreatives (and the corresponding frWP and arWP projects) as part of an imminent campaign and I was hoping I can expedite the addition of our newly created {{WikiProject AfroCreatives}} into relevant articles. I would keep it to black-and-white situations where articles are in Category:African films, Category:African actors, etc. Otherwise, if there's a dedicated bot for this kind of requests that I'm not aware of, by all means let me know. I edit pages often and fix WikiLinks, which this is helpful for. I am an Extended Confirmed User; I'm sure there you can see that, but I just wanted to let you know.

Anyway, I have seen many edits on pages using this tool, and I read up about it and it seems very useful. Thank you! Thomasbeem (talk) 06:01, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

New page reviewer

User:PharyngealImplosive7

I was granted new page reviewer rights temporarily and I think that I'm ready to get them permanently since I've tagged and patroled over 50 pages now. I've also tagged many pages for deletion that were unfit for the wiki. Finally, I would like to participate in the May backlog drive. I thank the reviewing admin for their time and hope that I will be granted this perm. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 16:45, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

@SheriffIsInTown: To be clear, the NPR permission does not assist with review of your own pages. If you want to "save others time from reviewing pages created by me", then you would want to request autopatrolled at WP:PERM/AP. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:39, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Request to participate in the May backlog drive. I have been an editor since 2005. I have knowledge of policies and guidelines. I am a rollbacker and huggle patroller. I have been editing for over four years with ~1K live mainspace edits, including some engagement with the deletion processes and significant article creation including BLPs. With no behavioral blocks or 3RR violations and an understanding of the relevant guidelines (including RfC engagement), I am seeking new page reviewer permissions to join the May 2024 backlog drive. Thanks for reviewing this week's burst of requests ahead of the drive! BluePenguin18 🐧 ( 💬 ) 08:07, 29 April 2024 (UTC) BluePenguin18 🐧 ( 💬 ) 08:07, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

(Removed not done template). Thank you for volunteering, but I'm going to have to deny this for now. If you're interested in re-applying at some point, which I do hope you do, then I encourage you to demonstrate some familiarity with the deletion process and notability guidelines by participating at WP:AFD or WP:AFC. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:37, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Done @BluePenguin18: I talked with Heymanimjosh about it because I think you're a worthy candidate that can be trusted. You have a good track record in the areas you participate in and have made a good impression on me. Do you think maybe you should strike the not done? Our conflicting messages might confuse the bot? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 03:53, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
Good thought. I've tweaked that reply. Hey man im josh (talk) 04:00, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
@Clovermoss, @Hey man im josh, Interesting, he only took part in 6 AFDs and has just a thousand edits. He was given the New Page reviewer right, while I was rejected despite having more experience and engagement in AFD, CSD, and other areas. Even thought I requested for one month trial. 👍🏻 Grabup (talk) 04:57, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
I see that you're upset but snarky comments on other people's requests is not the most productive way to go about this. If you have an issue with an admin's action or lack thereof, it's usually best to talk to them about it on their talk page.
My faith in Blue Penguin relies on their editing outside the AfD and CSD areas, as I believe demonstrating competence in creating articles and participating in project space discussions shows that someone has a high likelihood of following instructions and not messing things up. Sometimes different admins look at situations differently - hence the term "admin discretion". Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 05:09, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
@Clovermoss, He's only created 10 articles. Even if we exclude my village articles, my film articles surpass his in number. I won't comment further, but I don't think it's fair. Apologies for questioning. Grabup (talk) 05:18, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
@Grabup: Admins are not infallible and you have every right to question. The issue is how and where you do it. As said though, this is not the place for that discussion. Hey man im josh (talk) 05:21, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
@Grabup: Interesting, did you perhaps consider that there were other issues when you were reviewed? Possibly something like temperament? Possibly ignoring proper practices, such as not commenting on other user's requests at WP:PERM?
Different people make different decisions. Clovermoss asked if they could give this user a shot. If they want to, I'm not going to say no because I trust their judgement. It's that simple. Hey man im josh (talk) 05:13, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

I got busy in real life for most of March and April, so my request was put on hold per [1]. Here is my original reason for requesting NPR permissions again.

I have over 120 new articles under my belt, mostly relating to medieval history, monasteries, saints, and geographical features. I am familiar with the kinds of content that would fall under CSD criteria, since I have experience wikifying new pages and tagging obviously problematic new pages for speedy deletion. I know the guidelines on notability, proper sourcing, draftifying new articles, rating talk pages using scripts, AfC, AfD, and other essential patrolling tasks. Would be quite happy to reduce the backlog while being cautious and careful. Also currently a Pending Changes Reviewer. Florificapis (talk) 00:09, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

I am requesting this permission to help out with the backlog, as the notice came on my watchlist.

  1. I am extended confirmed and have been here for 3+ years, so I meet the account age/edit count requirements.
  2. I have never had any blocks.
  3. I agree to reviewing on a volunteer basis.

I would like to be able to use this permission, even if temporary, to help with the drive, as said above. If you reply here, please ping me. thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 03:14, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to volunteer for the NPP drive this month. I was previously granted the right for a trial period in August (expired a month later, extension request declined), and for another trial in December (for the January drive; unfortunately I was inactive as I was busy IRL). I have a bit of content writing experience (Trams in Olsztyn ) and formerly worked in AfC reviewing. – dudhhr talkcontribssheher 17:19, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

User:B3251

I would like to help out with the backlog. I’m very familiar with the content policies, having created 71 active articles (most being non-stubs) as of making this request. I’ve additionally had some experience in participating in discussions, handling deletion templates, and moving new articles with significant issues to the draft space. B3251 (talk) 10:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

User:TarnishedPath

I participated in the December backlog drive, being granted a trial. At the end of the trial I requested permanent NPP, which was denied with the denying admin expressing concern that I hadn't created any articles. I've since created an article about Neeraj Gupta (refer to User_talk:TarnishedPath/Archive_2#Your_submission_at_Articles_for_creation:_Neeraj_Gupta_(sculptor)_has_been_accepted) and been responsible for the bulk of the material in the newly created article Bruce Lehrmann‎. I had been working on Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ but someone else started work on Bruce Lehrmann‎ just as I submitted Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ to AfC so I ended up merging my work over to the mainspace article and issuing a CSD for deletion of the draft. I've continued to be semi-regularly involved with AfD. I'm applying because I got a notification a while ago that there was a backlog drive for May and I'm willing to help out a bit with that. Pending changes reviewer

User:Sunnyboi18

Hello, I'am applying again for Pending Changes Reviewer, as it was felt by a person who reviewed this that my request was "all over the place" and that "I didn't understand that PC rights are". I don't think that's fair.

I was simply just giving my experience and of having done 632 edits on Wiki involving mostly updating critical information, having been an Editor since Feburary 2021, and being familiar with Wiki Guidelines & Copyright and understanding the importance of making sure the info on Wiki is correct, and preventing Vandalism. And other requests saying that exact same stuff were approved, so not sure what to say but, I'am aware of the importance and privliege of this permission, and would like my request to be considered fairly, as it did not feel like that was the case the first time, based on the response that I got. Well, you're "honest impression" was more of a commentary on me personally rather than my experience and work I've done. So once again, it does not seem like this is being processed in a fair and unbiased manner. Especially when requests have been approved with very little language in them with regard to their background or experience, or with the same amount of/less edits as myself. Rollback

User:Lynch44

I have been reverting vandalism as an account for about a month now, and have familiarized myself with Twinkle as well. Also note the 20,000 edits, mostly anti-vandal, that I made as an IP. Lynch44 (talk) 01:49, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 22:30, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
If you consider me not fit for rollback due to this, then I am more than willing to wait further if necessary, and I will try to be more efficient in warning others in the future. Lynch44 (talk) 01:18, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
I've neither approved nor denied your request. But I would like to have a conversation on why you haven't been notifying editors after reverting their edits. Is it because... you didn't know you needed to, you've been acting too quickly without giving proper attention to each revert, etc? -Fastily 05:29, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
Part of it was me assuming the edit was so minor that an edit summary would be sufficient (like the second diff), or, just not giving a warning or notice because I did not feel there was a specific one that could fit. Again, I will try to warn or notify all editors when reverting them in the future. Lynch44 (talk) 10:13, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
Yes, please ensure that you are always leaving notifications. I can't stress enough the importance of not biting the newcomers; if you find yourself reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. Moving forward, could you please make a promise to leave warnings/notifications for every revert? -Fastily 00:42, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
Understood. Moving forward, I promise to notify all editors when I revert their edits, good faith or not. Lynch44 (talk) 01:13, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello! For about the past month, I've been patrolling recent changes and have gotten to know Ultraviolet well as I consistently warn users who make unconstructive and bad-faith edits. I am requesting rollback rights to further enhance my patrolling by using tools such as AntiVandal which will speed up the process greatly and Huggle which is a helpful tool to have to combat vandalism. Rollback also makes my reverts faster and more efficient allowing me to respond faster and better. Wiiformii (talk) 15:00, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 00:42, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
@Fastily Hello, these edits were mistakes on my part, although the large majority of the rest of my reverts come with warnings using Ultraviolet (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) Thank you for bringing it to my attention and I will make sure to appropriately warn users in the future.
