    Requests for permissions

This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

    Permissions

    Handled here

    • Account creator (add requestview requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
    • Autopatrolled (add requestview requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
    • AutoWikiBrowser (add requestview requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
    • Confirmed (add requestview requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
    • Event coordinator (add requestview requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
    • Extended confirmed (add requestview requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
    • File mover (add requestview requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
    • Mass message sender (add requestview requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
    • New page reviewer (add requestview requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Page mover (add requestview requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Pending changes reviewer (add requestview requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
    • Rollback (add requestview requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
    • Template editor (add requestview requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.

    Handled elsewhere

Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:

    Removal of permissions

If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.

This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight flags are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

    Process

    Requestors

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.

Any editor may comment on requests for permission.

    Administrators

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

    Other editors

Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.

A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

    User:Princess of Ara

I recently noticed this user, Princess of Ara. An editor who works mainly on Nigerian related articles and others. While trying to appreciate the user's effort, I got in love with the lovely articles, well sources, written from a volunteer in good faith and now, I am requesting that she be granted the auto patrol user right. It'll also help reduce heavy backlog of NPP. Thanks for your consideration! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 08:05, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User:Prince of Erebor

I have created 76 articles, primarily focused on Sinophone cinema and fantasy literature, with 2 currently undergoing GAN. All of my articles have been promptly reviewed, and none of them have been deleted or marked for maintenance. I am requesting autopatrolled rights to alleviate the workload of the patrollers, especially those who actively review film articles and have reviewed the majority of my articles, allowing them to allocate more time to address articles that truly require attention. As a side note, I am a veteran editor with patroller rights on Chinese Wikipedia, having authored over 200 articles, including a dozen featured and good articles. While I fully understand that there are differences in policies and MOS across different Wikipedias, I believe this demonstrates my credibility and knowledge in assessing article quality.— Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 13:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User:SheriffIsInTown

I frequently create articles on notable subjects, having authored 530 articles, with the majority facing no issues. Only three were deleted, mainly due to changes in election results affecting their notability. I'm requesting autopatroller rights to ease the burden on other editors reviewing my articles and help reduce the backlog of new article reviews. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 23:36, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User:Xoak

I'm an AFC reviewer, ardent contributor to Women In Red (most of my articles are on women) and biological topics. Xtools shows I have 57 live articles, however as far as I can recall, I've created at least 2 articles from redirects. [note that out of the 4 deleted articles, 3 were self delete]. I've 5 passed DYKs and 1 GA so far. I hate stubs and do everything on my part to at least create a C or a bare minimum Start.

It'll be nice to have this right, as it'd reduce the backlog. One self-criticism I'd do here is at times I do not categorize pages myself and leave it for others. But I try to categorize some of the time, and I'll make sure I do not leave any pages I create from here on uncategorized. I've had a few warnings about copyvio, though they were a case of WP:LIMITED and once a case of accidental copy-paste. Nonetheless, I've been very careful ever since and will be perpetually.

I'm courtesy pinging administrator @Ipigott as they're somewhat familiar with my work, and we had some delightful interactions.

It's okay if you feel I should not be given this right as yet. Regards. X (talk) 20:29, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done I've had a look and you aren't too far off. Apart from categorisation, the other obvious flaw is not defining DEFAULTSORT (please look up why that's important or what it is). I've taken your very latest article and made it "perfect" from a Manual of Style perspective, all in single steps so that you can see what else you could improve on. I hope that's useful. Please go back to your bios and define DEFAULTSORT where other editors haven't done that for you in the meantime. I'd say come back once you've written another half dozen articles, say, and I or someone else will have another look. If you have questions about any of those edits referred to above, please get in touch (via my talk page or an article's talk page; not here). Schwede66 23:48, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For the past bit i've been been contributing to Wikipedia by means of Counter Vandalism, as an extension of this I think that AWB can allow me to further my counter vandalism efforts, as well as extend into other maintenance like contributions with a similar level of efficiency as my counter-vandalism efforts. Reason for requesting autowikibrowser rights: I've been doing counter-vandalism for a bit, and AWB rights will allow me to begin editing Wikipedia with similar effectiveness that I have while recent changes patrolling. I hope to contribute to the law Wikiproject and overall Wikipedia mainspace. BerryForPerpetuity (talk) 14:12, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

BerryForPerpetuity, AWB isn't really useful for counter-vandalism. How do you see yourself using AWB if granted access? Primefac (talk) 14:22, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Primefac; typos in articles, AWB's general fixes, and tagging is probably what I would start out with. Counter-Vandalism was just an example for the efficiency I hope to achieve with my AWB edits. BerryForPerpetuity (talk) BerryForPerpetuity (talk) 14:26, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was granted new page reviewer rights temporarily and I think that I'm ready to get them permanently since I've tagged and patroled over 50 pages now. I've also tagged many pages for deletion that were unfit for the wiki. Finally, I would like to participate in the May backlog drive. User:Dclemens1971

I have extensive experience with new page creation and expanding stubs into appropriately sourced articles, and I also engage regularly (and constructively!) in AfD debates and PRODs with a good understanding of applicable policies. I'd like to apply this experience by helping out in May with the NPP backlog. Thanks for considering! Dclemens1971 (talk) 21:42, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dclemens1971, I appreciate your desire to help out with the backlog as we always need fresh eyes and eager participants. :) I see that you've had some participation with AfDs, which is good because a lot of NPP is related to the nuances surrounding notability. I took a look at the articles you've created. I noticed that some of your articles rely heavily on primary sources? Some examples are Church of Bangladesh Diocese of Kushtia, Church of Bangladesh Diocese of Barisal, Nathan Ingen, and Brian Williams (bishop)? I admit that this has prompted some serious hesitation on my part. I'd rather not reject a request before hearing what you have to say on the matter, though. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:25, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the question @Clovermoss. I agree that the pages rely on primary sources for non-controversial facts. Dioceses and other middle judicatories of major church traditions (Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican) have historically been viewed as per se notable, even without secondary sourcing (see AfDs from 2019, 2018, 2018, 2012, 2007, 2007. (The only "delete" results for a diocese that I've seen were for a tiny splinter group with no sourcing available at all or for an apparent hoax). Under the principle articulated by these "keep" results, I operated on the view that the Church of Bangladesh dioceses can be presumed notable. For Nathan Ingen and Brian Williams, WP:BISHOPS states that "[t]he bishops of major Christian denominations are notable by virtue of their status." (In both of these cases, the bishops are also acting primates (heads) of their churches in the Anglican Communion.) To sum up: I understand that generally N:ORGCRIT or N:BIO apply, but WP practice appears to treat major church traditions' dioceses and bishops as inherently notable and that's what I operated under for those articles. Happy to continue the conversation or answer other questions. Dclemens1971 (talk) 12:35, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dclemens1971: Thanks for linking those AfD discussions... they are interesting. My discomfort is in relation to the fact that they we don't actually have an SNG about dioceses. However, your response definitely demonstrates that you understand nuance. If I gave you the perm, do you think you would be able to only review articles that you think meet GNG, NCORP or an SNG? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 23:50, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Clovermoss Of course, I would stick to stated policy in any new page reviews. (And it's probably worth my raising the question of an SNG for dioceses at the Wikiproject.) Dclemens1971 (talk) 13:27, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done for a trial period of 3 months. Ping me when its close to expiry if you're still interested in reviewing and I'll provide feedback. If you do propose an SNG, I'd suggest going higher than a WikiProject per WP:LOCALCON. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:25, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I got busy in real life for most of March and April, so my request was put on hold per [1]. Here is my original reason for requesting NPR permissions again.

I have over 120 new articles under my belt, mostly relating to medieval history, monasteries, saints, and geographical features. I am familiar with the kinds of content that would fall under CSD criteria, since I have experience wikifying new pages and tagging obviously problematic new pages for speedy deletion. I know the guidelines on notability, proper sourcing, draftifying new articles, rating talk pages using scripts, AfC, AfD, and other essential patrolling tasks. Would be quite happy to reduce the backlog while being cautious and careful. Also currently a Pending Changes Reviewer. Florificapis (talk) 00:09, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I participated in the December backlog drive, being granted a trial. At the end of the trial I requested permanent NPP, which was denied with the denying admin expressing concern that I hadn't created any articles. I've since created an article about Neeraj Gupta (refer to User_talk:TarnishedPath/Archive_2#Your_submission_at_Articles_for_creation:_Neeraj_Gupta_(sculptor)_has_been_accepted) and been responsible for the bulk of the material in the newly created article Bruce Lehrmann‎. I had been working on Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ but someone else started work on Bruce Lehrmann‎ just as I submitted Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ to AfC so I ended up merging my work over to the mainspace article and issuing a CSD for deletion of the draft. I've continued to be semi-regularly involved with AfD. I'm applying because I got a notification a while ago that there was a backlog drive for May and I'm willing to help out a bit with that. Hello. I was initially given a month long trial as a new page reviewer after receiving an invitation on my user page, and I've been enjoying everything so far: reviewing pages, providing feedback, sending WikiLove to new and returning users who have made exceptional first attempts, tagging issues, and resolving issues myself (that could otherwise be tagged) when I have time in an attempt to reduce the backlog. I have already been renewed once, and my second trial expires in a little over two weeks (May 26th). I'm requesting either an indefinite or longer-term ability to review new pages before my time lapses. Haven't had any behavioral issues, and I try to treat all users with respect. I will continue to help clear the backlog in the meantime. Thanks again. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 00:06, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'am applying again for Pending Changes Reviewer, as it was felt by a person who reviewed this that my request was "all over the place" and that "I didn't understand that PC rights are". I don't think that's fair.

I was simply just giving my experience and of having done 632 edits on Wiki involving mostly updating critical information, having been an Editor since Feburary 2021, and being familiar with Wiki Guidelines & Copyright and understanding the importance of making sure the info on Wiki is correct, and preventing Vandalism. And other requests saying that exact same stuff were approved, so not sure what to say but, I'am aware of the importance and privliege of this permission, and would like my request to be considered fairly, as it did not feel like that was the case the first time, based on the response that I got.      Not done. In reviewing your edit history, it doesn't look like you're actually active in anti vandalism efforts. For example, you've only undone an edit 3 times, and each of those times was undoing your own edit. You also only have 7 user talk page edits, all of which are to your own talk page. Typically for someone involved in anti vandalism we'd expect more undo actions and some warnings posted on other user's talk pages. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:23, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have a history of cleaning up grammar, removing and refactoring uncited content and fixing citations. I'm hoping to maybe expand my editing scope a bit. Allan Nonymous (talk) 17:10, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've created many biographies and have a good understanding of Wikipedia policies. I've fixed vandalism many times and fixed many biography of living persons violations. RowanJ LP (talk) 15:20, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a long-term editor on Wiki, assisting with anti-vandalism. Almost all my edits have been anti-vandalism, as well as having two successful AfD, helping preventing the use of Wikipedia as a promotional tool. I'm requesting the pending changes reviewer permission to assist in catching vandalism on articles under pending changes protection. Nigel757 (talk) 02:00, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pls I ask this permission granted because I've surpassed 500 edits; which means I'm extended confirmed user. Please I want to be a part of this one too. Thank You. 2RDD (talk) 06:39, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Rollback

    User:CGP05

Hello! I revert vandalism quite frequently and I would like rollback rights so I can use the AntiVandal tool to make the process faster. CGP05 (talk) 02:34, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 06:05, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I try to warn the majority of editors that vandalize. I will ensure that I warn every time from now on. CGP05 (talk) 13:45, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please ensure that you are always leaving warnings. I can't stress enough the importance of not biting the newcomers; if you find yourself reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. I note that again, you've failed to notify an editor post revert even after you promised to do so yesterday. Anyways, upon further review, I'm not seeing enough consistent counter-vandalism work to determine whether you'll be able to use the tool appropriately. I also see that you've made a total of zero reports to AIV, which is an important stop for any serious counter-vandalism patroller. Please review my feedback, and if you're still interested in the tool, then please spend at least a month actively patrolling before reapplying. As such, closing as  Not done -Fastily 06:01, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you a lot for the feedback and I will take it into account before reapplying. CGP05 (talk) 19:55, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add another tool to my antivandalism toolbelt. I already use Twinkle and make a point to warn most if not vandals. This has resulted in a lower reoccurrence rate and helps the wiki. I will use the tool to assist in these efforts. Kingsmasher678 (talk) 16:13, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done I noticed you started actively reverting vandalism about 2 weeks ago. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I'd like to see you spend more time gaining experience fighting vandalism before assigning you advanced permissions. Keep up the good work, and consider reapplying in a month. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits (I recommend using tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet which makes this extremely easy). Thanks, Fastily 19:23, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
