CVUA

Hi Yunshui,

I really am sorry for squeezing so much out of your time on Wikipedia, but I am trying hard to show sysops that I am ready to use the Rollback tool. I recently sent a request to get the tool, but it was denied, with the suggestion that I first graduate from the CVUA. Seeing that you were available, I decided I would request that you become my double-mentor on Wikipedia. Thanks, Kevin12xd... | speak up | take a peek | email me 00:50, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Just putting the record straight: the suggestion was that you get more experience by demonstrating more vandalism reverts, not that you should graduate from the CVUA. The CVUA requirement was simply cited as an example. Thanks. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:01, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
You're sort of already an unofficial CVUA student of mine - I include counter-vandalism as part of the adoption process, and as I said above, successful completion of the vandalism part of the adoption course (which I see you've made considerable headway with; I'll check it over later this morning) is tantamount to passing the CVUA "exam". Kudpung makes a good point, though - whilst CVUA graduation is definitely a feather in your cap when applying for rollback, it's still the quality and quantity of your anti-vandalism reverts that speaks most loadly in your favour. DYK status for Ganges shark - response to your message

Dear Yunshui, As I'm unsure of how to respond to your comments on my talk page, I've copy-pasted my reply here as well. Do let me know the best way to reply.

Many thanks for your comment - that's great news. I'm continuing to update the article today, although it will be a challenge to add another 500 words. Very little is known about this species. My initial literature review produced over 3500 words of content, but once I edited out the duplicate content, only 1500 words remain. I had intented to include more background on the threats to this species, but as these are well described on the Ganges page I thought it more appropriate to link to that section of the page rather than duplicate content. Still, I'll see what I can come up with today. Thanks, Ocococo (talk) 15:44, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Rollback

I will do so. Thanks for the info

Shrikanthv (talk) 08:14, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Nope; I can't see why you'd think it was. All Raj Singh has done is add a couple of sources (pretty sound ones, at a glance) to support information that was already in the article. Have you linked to the right diff? Yunshui  08:47, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Thank you Yunshui,

I want briefly to thank you for your attention to my query regarding the image related to my pending entry: Sylvan (Sholom) Kalib. Help (yet again!)

Hi Yunshui,

I have just tried to nominate a couple of articles for deletion - Northern Inuit Dog and Tamaskan Dog. I'm not sure if I've done them correctly, I used Twinkle but although when you click on the template on the article it does take you to the AfD, it shows as a red link? I'm surprised to discover this is the third nomination for Tamaskan Dog as at a quick glance, the majority previously were for delete?

There was discussion on these articles here. A new article for American Tamaskan has just been declined here which is more or less a duplicate of Tamaskan Dog.

There is already an AfD for Utonagan and someone added it to a category (organisms). I tried to add these two nominations to the same category but couldn't get it to work?

Sorry, I'm treating you as my 'mentor' .

SagaciousPhil - Chat 10:36, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Phil. The redlink occurs because Twinkle, in its haste to be the most amazing tool on Wikipedia, occasionally tags the article before it creates the AFD discussion (I say occasionally - it actually happens most of the time). If you purge the page (add "=purge" to the end of the URL in your browser's address bar and reload the page) then the link will turn blue. Your noms seem pretty sound.
Deletion sorting (adding discussions to "List of x-related deletion discussions") doesn't work the same way as page categorisation. Instead, you need to go to WikiProject Deletion sorting/Organisms and add the AFD discussion there. I'll let you do this (though I'm happy to do it for you if you want me to) so you can have a go at page transclusion - just follow the instructions on the page there. Yunshui  11:12, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, Yunshui, you are always so helpful and I am very grateful. I was having a bit of a panic but think they are sorted now - and added into the category Utonagan was put into as well; I'll get the hang of the ins and outs of Wiki eventually! [[File:|25px|link=]] SagaciousPhil - Chat 13:20, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Yep, you've done it right. Yunshui  13:24, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Lead check

Hello Mr Yunshui, Have a look here , I have done a massive surgery on the lead is it ok or anything needs to be changed ? Shrikanthv (talk) 10:44, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Shrikanthv. Based on the diff of you revisions here, I'd say: good job, but consider the following:
  • It's common to add translated names to biographical articles about non-English nationals; it's probably worth putting the {{lang-bn}} templates back in.
"comment" I would have really like to do that Mr yunshui but have a look at here , nightmare fight in Indian community for using Indic coptics
  • Style-wise, we don't use honorifics in the text of the article - after the first mention, he should be referred to as "Aurobindo", not "Sri Aurobindo".
Done
  • The new second paragraph needs some work; unless the sources very specifically say he excelled in his academic work you can't write things like "Sri Aurobindo was brilliant at studies when young" - this is precisely the sort of promotional language that you're normally at such pains to delete! The rest of the text in this section could use some tidying, although I recognise that English isn't your first language.
Ya it was kind of patch work where i tried to bandage already existing text, i guess it is looking like frankenstein now!, have done some re-edits.
  • Consider restoring parts of the paragraph about his works, if not to the lead then to the main article body. The facts that he was the first Indian to create a major literary corpus is quite notable, and the source is sound. As a rule of thumb, don't delete sourced information from articles unless you're certain that either a) the facts cited aren't in the source or b) the source doesn't meet the reliable sources guideline.
Done, will look into that in future.
Overall though, you've done well; the newer version is more neutral and better structured than the earlier one. Keep it up. Yunshui  11:34, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your support, now i will try to dive in and see if i can bring about a GA from the article Shrikanthv (talk) 12:27, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Paul. The page you've created is an impressive work of scholarship, and you're to be commended for writing such a thorough and well-written article. However, you seem to unfortunately have fallen foul of one of the most common issues for new Wikipedia contributors; namely, the notability requirements.
In brief, Wikipedia only hosts articles about subjects which have received significant coverage in multiple, reliable, independent sources. At present, whilst you draft is laden with notes and sources, these all appear to be derived in one way or another directly from Kalib himself. That's not sufficient to ensure notability under Wikipedia's standards, since none of your references are independent of the subject.
Ideally, you should be able to add sources (such as broadsheet newspaper articles, chapters in reliably published books or coverage in (independently written) scholarly papers) to back up much of the information in the article. If you have access to such information, by all means put it in; it will make the article far more likely to pass AFC review.
If such sources are not available (they sometimes aren't in highly specialised academic fields) you can try making a case for Kalib passing the professor test. This is a widely accepted alternative to the usual notability requirements which is used in the case of academics who are not well known outside their own field. You would still need to provide independent sources to demonstrate that Kalib met one or more of the criteria there, though.
I don't mean to discourage you, and I hope I haven't - it's just that a lot of well-meaning new editors fail to address these issues, and then have to suffer the frustration of watching their articles get deleted becuase they weren't aware of the guidelines. I'd hate to see that happen to the work you've done, so this is a (hopefully helpful) suggestion to point you in the right direction. I'm happy to help, if I can, just leave me a message on this page if you run into difficulties. Yunshui  14:36, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello, recently i have noticed an influx of IPs on my talk page asserting that the "nice page" of Mujeeb Zafar Anwar Hameedi should be "improved" by me adding wordpress and wikipedia mirrors; which as I went back to the article talkpage archives, are the same repeated messages and links that had previously been spammed on the talk page, with another editor claiming the article has been blessed by admins. i see by the talk page that you have been involved and I am wondering if you have done and close looking to assess whether or not he meets the WP:GNG - my google books and google news came back empty, so I am wondering what a close inspection of the current article sourcing would actually find? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 04:34, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, he hammered away at my talkpage for a bit too, until I semi-protected it for a while. Want me to do the same for yours? I'll have a look at the article - as I recall, I deemed its sourcing just about adequate after Justice007 cleaned up the horrible mess that used to be there, but I'll give it a review. Yunshui  08:16, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Looking at it again, only the first source (Daily News) is really worth a damn, and even then, it's trivial coverage. I'm going to put this up at AFD, I think. Yunshui  08:27, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
thanks for looking into that. if i start getting 3 or more posts a day from the IP, i may ask for that protection. we will see what happens with the afd.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:24, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

India topic page

Hello Mr Yunshui, have a look at here kind of wierd , what would be the problem may be ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shrikanthv (talkcontribs)

It's an odd one (possibly verging on historical, given how little it's been edited recently). Looks to me like a transcludable wiki-namespace umbrella page to provide shortcuts to the various WikProject India subpages. It's got several subpages which are incorporated in the {{India quick links}} template, which is quite heavily used. You could ask on the appropriate talkpage, but my assessment would be that it's just a technical tool to help the project organise their pages. Yunshui  09:27, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Andrey Lappa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. BO | Talk 14:42, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Fair enough. IIRC, I created that page at the behest of another editor (or possibly after picking somethig up at WP:RA); either way, I remember thinking at the time that it was pretty borderline. No arguments from this quarter if it gets deep-sixed (or A-sevened...). Yunshui  14:48, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Andrey Lappa for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Andrey Lappa is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Andrey Lappa until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. BO | Talk 14:48, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

No, it's currently empty. Pending changes is very new - it was only fully implemented a week or so ago - and so few if any pages have been protected with the PC template. Even when pages are protected, the Special page only flags those with actual changes awaiting review, so you're looking at a small subset of a very small group of articles. When edits are available for review, they'll show up there (they'll also appear on your watchlist if you're watching the protected page). Yunshui  09:06, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Dear Yunshui,

I want briefly to thank you for your kind words regarding my writing, and again, for your attention to my entry on Sylvan (Sholom) Kalib. I took your direction and will continue improving the article. Meanwhile, the article has “passed” the committee and was given the rank of “C”. My question is this: though the work is now made a formal Wikipedia “article” or “entry,” I notice that it cannot be located by typing the title, (“Sylvan (Sholom) Kalib”) into the general Wikipedia search field. Can you advise me how to correct this? Additionally, I would like for the article to be located when folks search simply for ”Sylvan Kalib,” too. Many Thanks, Pdsayre (talk)Paul —Preceding undated comment added 12:36, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Given that he's clearly known in English as Sylvan Kalib, our style guidelines suggest the article should be located at Sylvan Kalib. I will move it there, and create redirects from Sylvan (Sholom) Kalib and Sholom Kalib so that any searches under those names will locate the article. You won't find it by enclosing the title in quotation marks; Wikipedia's search engine works on different operators to Google's. Yunshui  12:57, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Done; I've also added Sholom (Sylvan) Kalib, so all of these search terms will now locate the article. Yunshui  13:00, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
By the way, good work locating all those additional third-party sources, there's a clear demonstration of notability on the page now. All that really needs to be done now is to turn them into inline citations. After that, I reckon this will only need minimal work to bring it up to Good article status; an impressive feat for your first ever article! Yunshui  13:03, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Dear Yunshui,

Thanks again for your kind words, and particular thanks for fixing those search options! :-) I will probably continue to tweek the aricle, but I'm considering it, more or less, “done.” Je fini! All the best,

Block of user at Teahouse

I was looking through the Teahouse, and I noticed that you blocked User:MWWorld as a promotional account. While I agree with your assessment and response, I take issue with the way you replied on the Teahouse. Specifically, a random newbie who browses through the Teahouse will observe that you essentially blocked a user based on his own testimony. This could scare newbies away from discussing other issues they may have. I think you ought to have informed MWWorld of the block on his talk page, not in a public place that could bite other newbies. -- YPNYPN 16:34, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

That's a fair point; I agree with you. I've removed the last couple of sentences from my comment at the Teahouse accordingly. Thanks for pulling me up on it. Yunshui  22:20, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
FWIW, I've had it gently suggested that I keep out of the Teahouse (even though I get along with lots of the folks who run it) because my, erm... brisk style is not what they're looking to cultivate there. I can see their point, and it's not like there aren't other places that need our attention as well. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:45, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

The...Question...

Hi Yunshui,

Well, it's been a while now (well, maybe not that long compared to you), but it looks like I've been on Wikipedia for over 3 months now. I've figured out a lot of secrets to Wiki-markup, welcomed new users, fought a few battles of vandalism, had a couple of arguments, in which you made good points in, done several Adoption tasks, completed two or so essays, reported a handful of IPs to AIV, awarded a truckful of Barnstars, answered a few questions, posted a truckful of warnings, created my own lineup of warnings, and finally, cited a few sources. I've probably killed a lot of your time by now, so I'll get to the point. I would like to be granted Rollback rights. I am ready; I've read all project pages relating to Rollback, I've come across instances where Rollbacking could have saved me time, and I understand when and when not to use Rollback - only in cases of clear-cut vandalism-and Ithis doesn't apply to that rule. Please consider my application. Cheers! Kevin12xd... | speak up | take a peek | email me 02:05, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Your move counter RM result 10 December

Hi, sorry to bother you with this, particularly since it appears that another WikiProject Vietnam editor has already seen this move and correctly reverted it. But can you please explain why you moved an article against Nam Định RM result 07 August 2011? This article has already been moved counter Nam Định RM result once as the result of a User's misuse of db-G6 and self-reverted by the db-G6 admin implementing Graeme Bartlett on 25 August 2012. Why did you move it against RM result a second time? Best regards. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:25, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

My apologies I should have realised that the User had removed evidence of the RM before requesting an "uncontroversial move." I've seen this before db-G6s several times before, so again my apologies, you were acting in good faith. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:22, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Sorry about that - you're right; in the absence of a visible RM discussion I took the argument per WP:VIET to be sound, and made the move accordingly. I see it's been fixed now. I have a faint recollection of moving another page in similar circumstances, so I'll go back over my move log and make sure that's sorted too. Thanks for letting me know; rest assured it won't happen again. Yunshui  07:59, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Sorted; A Lưới District and Bố Trạch district are now back at their former locations. Yunshui  08:06, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Ah, thanks. I hadn't seen either of those. I have been trying to keep an eye on db-G6 log since Graeme Bartlett informed me that 500x db-G6 had been moved since the 07 Aug 2011 Talk:Cần Thơ RM but the log is giant and db-G6 aren't separated. I see that the first A Lưới District was in fact reverted once to RM result by Vietnamese editor ༆ Yig Mgo, wheras I myself reverted the second "(In ictu oculi moved page Bo Trach District to Bố Trạch district: revert another undiscussed move contrary 3 of 3 geo names RMs see Talk:Cà Mau)" Bizarre to have to revert the same undiscussed move twice. Best regards. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:44, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
  • A "no consensus" RM from August 2011 is being cited as a reason to make multiple moves now? That's hardly the most recent discussion of this issue. There are hundreds of Vietnamese districts with titles in a particular format. What sense does it make for these two districts to be in a different format? IIO has had a grudge against me for a long time, and this wikihounding is getting way out of hand. Kauffner (talk) 14:28, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Mr Yunshui, Please have a look at this article here, We are toiling to make it a FA on jan 12th (the birthday of the Swami vivekananda) , Can you make a review for GA ? Shrikanthv (talk) 13:35, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Regret to say that this message arrived just as I was about to go offline; I'll take a look tomorrow if I have a chance. Yunshui  13:39, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Small update Mr Yunshui, It seems we are directly going for an FA Please make a peer review on the article Shrikanthv (talk) 13:49, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Sadly I'm not going to have time for a full review (I'm on-and-offline in short bursts all day today), but here's a casual overview based on a first-time read:
  • Well-written I can't see any glaring errors. The prose is structurally good, with varied sentence forms and a broad vocabulary; there are one or two Hindu terms that could still use a brief in-text explanation as well as a wikilink (e.g. nirvikalpa samādhi, pandit, arati, Mahasamadhi).
  • Comprehensive As a reader, I couldn't think of anything I wanted to know that wasn't covered; it seems to be a very thourough treatment of the subject.
  • Well-researched The bibliography understandably contains a lot of books from Indian publication houses which I'm not immediately familiar with, so I can't comment specifically on their value as sources. One or two may be a little suspect; there are several publications from Advaita Ashrama in there which may not meet WP:RS (as a publisher, they have a strong editorial bias). However, there do appear to be a wide range of scholarly sources in the article.
  • Neutral There are occasional instances of hyperbole (e.g. "Vivekananda remains the most influential figure in modern Hinduism"), but the text is largely presented impassively, with all philosophical statements being appropriately attributed to their authors without comment as to their veracity - a tricky line to walk in articles like this.
  • Stable There's evidence of positive discussion on the talkpage, and whilst there are several editors piled in on it at present, there's no sign of any edit-warring.
  • Lead Covers most of the main points of the article, and serves as a concise exposition of the subject.
  • Structure Sensible structure of chronological biography followed by teachings and impact, TOC is comprehensive without being excessive. Might be nice to see dates on the subsections of the "As a monk wandering in India (1888-1893)" section.
  • Citations Cite style is not entirely consistent - there are some no-bracket Harvard citations and some direct inline citations. There's also at least one Highbeam reference, which should be labelled as "subscription only".
  • Media Generally, images are relevent and correctly used (not too sure about File:Vivekanandar Illam.jpg - does a place where he once stayed for a week really merit a picture? Why not add photos of all the hotels he stayed in while in the States, while you're at it?). I've only checked the licensing on a couple of images, but those I've looked at have been fine.
  • Length Good summary style, doesn't get overly bogged-down in trivia, and has links to more expansive pages where necessary.
Overall, I reckon it's pretty close to FA status, but as I said, that's based on a fairly cursory read. I'd recommend getting the nomination started very soon, though, if you want it to be promoted by the 12th. Yunshui  08:45, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello Mr Yunshui, Thanks for below http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Voltage_controller it has been promoted. so when does it apear on the main page ? Shrikanthv (talk) 11:00, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Shrikanthv - I meant to congratulate you on that! Slow process, but it got there in the end... The hook is currently in the most up-to-date prep area, and should be moved into the queue later today; that means it ought to go up on the Main Page in about 12-18 hours. You'll get an automatic notification on your talkpage when it's live, together with a stat counter link to show how many views it got. Well done again, a great effort! Night mare at FAC

Hello Mr Yunshui, I wish you happy new year and christmas .

you remember we were working the article on vivekananda, here is the FAC nomination it is turninng out to be nightmare , what would you suggest ? Shrikanthv (talk) 11:15, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Shrikanthv. I see that nomination's been withdrawn and closed, so there's not much salvaging to be done - my advice would be to take a back seat on this and let Tito Dutta do the driving. Try to work with him (I see you're already doing so) and follow his advice on the article and FA process. I owe you an apology, too; I shouldn't have encouraged you to start the nomination process without checking first that you understood what was involved in FA, and for that I'm very sorry. Yunshui  08:52, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

"The...Question..." redux

Hi Yunshui, regarding this section above, you should know that Kevin12xd had his request for rollback declined at WP:RFPERM/R about a day before you granted him rollback. He has made a few mistakes in identifying vandalism since then, such as 1, 2, 3 and rather worryingly this. None of which appear to be vandalism as defined by WP:VAND. In addition, his attitude towards this newcomer who left him a message about their apparently good faith edit being reverted is far from what I would expect: see edit summary. Given the above, I think that it would be sensible to remove rollback for now, but I thought I should check that you're okay with me doing that before I do so. - Kingpin13 (talk) 13:47, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, only just checked your user page and saw the message about being away. I'll remove the rollback. Hope you have a good holiday - Kingpin13 (talk) 13:49, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
Cheers Kingpin, thanks for the heads-up. I hadn't spotted the declined WP:PERM request (lax of me; it's on my watchlist). I'm okay with you removing it for now; if Kevin wants it back I'll ask him to reapply through the proper channels. Yunshui  09:01, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Only because he is your student...

I have not reported against him still.. only because he is your student.
Not only that FA incidence, there are many more issues (starting with that AFC issue)
He is continuously wrongly tagging articles for deletion: See here also here, and here he is nominating articles per BLP unsourced, but sources were already added. Here he nominated an article for deletion for some unknown reason, anyway the article was not deleted. He has taken 2 of my articles to AFD, (and the other AFDs too he has started) there he is just copy pasting the same rationale "Does not meet Wikipedia notability [END]." I don't think he has followed WP:BEFORE.
I can leave these AFDs, but, see here he has again BLLPPRODed an article, but see at least 5 sources were added there at that moment! Wrong formatting, I agree, but, sources were added. What he is trying to do? The worst part is he does not talk. You tell him about some blunder and he goes on and makes another. --Tito Dutta (talk) 09:10, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Facepalm I knew Shrikanthv had some issues with deletion policies (it's what drew him to my attention and eventual adoption in the first place), but I hadn't realised it was getting this bad. Time for some stern words on his talkpage, I think. I'm sure we can both agree that he's acting in good faith, but the issues you've raised above are enough for me to seriously question whether WP:COMPETENCE should be invoked.
Whilst I do appreciate the implicit compliment in you holding off on a DR or other report due to my mentorship role, please remember that I'm no more an authority here than you are - if the disruption doesn't stop after I've spoken with him, you have every right to file an appropriate report. I'll start monitoring his edits more closely, and hopefully we can bring him up to speed as an editor quickly. Yunshui  09:25, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Mr yunshui as asked , I will refrain from deletion tags for the next three months , and would definitly inform if i am taking any steps here, it seems i have angered some contributors , however this was not my remote of intentions. so i will stick with new articles and editing existing articles for now. Shrikanthv (talk) 10:15, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Deletion is not the only issue! Anyway, why are you spending so much time in deletion nominations? You don't have idea of Wikipedia Mirror, you complained without concentrating and wikiformatting issues! Seeing the current status of your GA nomination of Sri Aurobindo, I don't think it is GA ready (and might be quickgailed too, so many templates)! Did you talk to any primary contributor before nominating the article? Why are you dealing with these FA, GA etc when you are still trying to learn the basic things! --Tito Dutta (talk) 10:35, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Deletion's not the only issue, but it's by far the most pressing one; let's deal with that first. Tito, I recognise that Shrikanthv's actions haven't exactly made your life easier, but criticising evrything he does (is a missing section header on a newly created page really such a dreadful error?) isn't going to help him improve. Allowing the GA/FA nomination's to run (I've advised him higher up on this page to defer to you with regards to the Vivekanada FA) will give him the chance to see these processes in action, and hopefully provide pointers for the future.
Shrikanthv, I hope you can understand that Tito is trying to help you improve; please look at the diffs he's provided and see if you can understand what the problems were. You can then avoid making these mistakes in the future. If you honestly can't see why he's cross with you over any particular diff, let me know and I'll explain. Yunshui  10:52, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment on Wcnesmith's talk

Hey,

Thanks for your commenting there. I was trying to be polite, and just seeing if he could actualy stop being full of himself and be a valuable contributor here. I can so very well see why you admins almost always seem to be grouchy (Well, most of them anyways). Anybody would be, once they deal with people regularly.

Anyways, thanks.

And Cheers, TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:13, 31 December 2012 (UTC) [Talkback Please]

Yeah, we're a grumpy bunch of misanthropes, us admins... Your attempts to bring him into the fold were admirable, and I commend you wholeheartedly for trying, but with every statement he made it became more and more obvious that he wasn't ever going to be a productive contributor. After a bit of Google-fu to check him out, I became even more convinced - he seems to be a relentless self-publicist, for whom Wikipedia is only the latest venue in which to present his ideas. Some of them may have merit, but it's all entirely original. In the end, I felt that my blunt instrument of a reply was the kindest way to explain that he wasn't going to be able to do what he wanted to do here - hopefully it'll save you some time as well. Yunshui  13:24, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
No offence meant, haan!!! Anyways I found it weird that most of the people who I think would have used a lesson or two in friendliness towards new users were admins or experienced users. Not that weird anymore though.
I also began to realise the same. Had you not commented, I think I would have directly told it in a reply or two too.
Well, we just have perspectives on that. I would have given myself the slightest chance of turning him around. Ayways, you did save me a lot of time. Thanks TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:34, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui,

Sorry to pop in while your enjoying the holidays, but I just wanted to inform you that I took a few minutes to read over your RfA nomination by WTT, and I coudn't bear not:

b) Opening online dictionaries
c) Realize that you're one hell of an admin!
So thank you Yunshui, to sum it all up. I hope your family will have a great remainder of the holidays!

Helping new users.

Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering what sort of experience you need to help people at the Teahouse (I'm also presuming you need to be a host as well). Thanks in advance and I hope you have a happy new year. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 03:01, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Last time I checked there were no "official" requirements beyond a competence with Wikipedia's policies and a reasonable amout of editing experience - looks like you have both, so no worries on that front. If a new host is completely unsuitable, we normally remove them from the list and drop them a polite note about it, but that doesn't often happen, and I certainly can't see it happening to you. If you need any help over there, drop me a line. Yunshui  08:03, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Yunshui. The first person I tried to help ended up filing an ANI complaint against me, so it can only get better from there. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 12:34, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I saw that. Not the best welcome you could have had to the Teahouse process, but I think - I certainly hope! - you'll find that to be an abberent exeption to the usual experience... Yunshui  12:40, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Eh, it's an experience at the end of the day, and one that certainly won't stop me trying to help others here. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 12:45, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

cutting politics out

Hello Mr Yunshui, Please have a look at Sri Aurobindo article now, there is minor last para corrections needed. do give me review (already being reviewed by a reviewer). let me know what do you think.

I really did not want to be involved in the political talks above and wanted to concentrate on things to be done, hope you forgive me for the trouble caused. I had irked the "contributor" by nominating "his" article for an FA , and then he came out with blazing wiki rule book gun. hope the firing stops.

and again wishing you A happy prosperous new year. Shrikanthv (talk) 22:09, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

It looks as though there are still quite a few unsourced statements in the article which definitely need verifying; the Poetry, Followers of... and Influences sections are particularly problematic. Sources should certainly exist for the last two, although I'd recommend that the Poetry section be completely rewritten from scratch; it's really not something I'd expect to see in a GA in its current state. The reference formatting throughout also needs looking at; they aren't cited consistently and a few are rather sparse.
It's easy to fall foul of Wikipedia's many rules; even experienced editors sometimes come across an obscure guideline or consensus that they weren't aware of. The trick is to make sure you've read up thoroughly on whatever it is you want to do; if you're planning to nominate a GA, for example, make sure you've read all the subpages of Wikipedia:Good articles, including a few GA reviews, before setting forth. It's tedious in the short term, but in the long run you'll ruffle fewer feathers and have an easier time of it.
I'm planning to set up a new adoption page for you to help you with the deletion problems you've been having; hopefully I'll have something concrete by the end of next week. In the meantime, have a good old read of WP:DEL and see if you can find some time to hang out at AFD; it's a useful place to learn the more complex aspects of article deletion. Adopt

Hi Yunshui. Let me know when you're back from holidays. I would like to talk to you about adopting me as a user. I've been extremely impressed with your demeanour and professionalism which is why I'm coming to you. I've been on Wikipedia for awhile, but I'm both interested in RfA down the road (not now) and also worried that I've possibly become complacent or picked up bad habits over the years. I've recently shifted into policy/guideline improvement and AfD which is the only reason why I mention the possibility of RfA later on. I'd like to get back more into article writing and have decided to take it upon myself to work on some articles through to FA. Anyway, let me know if you're interested. Mkdwtalk 08:28, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Mkdw, and thanks for the vote of confidence (should that be a !vote of confidence?...). Giving your edit history a cursory once-over, I don't think you need to worry too much about bad habits - from what I see, you're a competent, policy-aware editor with a nice, broad spectrum of contributions. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure what you could learn from me that you don't already know; I suspect I'd be teaching my grandmother to suck eggs if I adopted you. That said, I'm more than happy for you to treat me as a first port of call for any questions or problems you have, particularly with regard to AFD and CSD (I seem to have ended up spending the majority of my time working in these areas), and I'd be happy to advise on, support or even create an RFA for you in the future. Yunshui  09:15, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi Yunshui, yes I'd definitely like to have a place to go regarding some of my questions. I think to elaborate, I'm somewhat familiar with policies and editing, but less familiar with 'administrative-type' tasks. I've become more involved in the AfD process but there's still much to be learned. Furthermore, I haven't contributed to an FA article in many years and as such I'd like to get back into that swing. I feel also that having someone who they themselves have been through the RfA process and subsequently learned a lot in said process would be able to share some of those insights. I think ultimately any good editor who is considering RfA down the road should prepare and that includes seeking advice from others. Mkdwtalk 11:20, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Truth be told, my RFA was a pretty easy ride; I learned more during the six-month run up to it (with Worm That Turned helpfully pointing me in the right directions) than during the process itself. Your own RFA standards show that you've got a good grasp of the usual requirements; the only thing I'd add is that many RFA !voters like to see either a considerable amount of anti-vandal work or a large number of created articles - or both. Pushing one or two of your own creations to GA or even FA status will net you quite a bit of RFA kudos.
Oh, and I'd recommend getting yourself a CSD log (tick the appropriate box in your Twinkle prefs) to track your speedies - a nice red CSD log is very appealing at RFA! Yunshui  11:36, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
I seem have enabled the CSD log on my twinkle settings, but I cannot find the subpage where it logs it. I remember your RfA. It was quite the smooth sailing, but I think there were particularly good reasons for it. Mkdwtalk 23:07, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
It'll be at User:Mkdw/CSD log, but the page won't be created until you actually perform a CSD tagging with Twinkle. Yunshui  12:29, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
I tagged a few pages that were suitable for CSD since I changed the settings a few days ago and the log hasn't been created. Is the log compiled irregularly such as once a month? Started working randomly. Mkdwtalk 21:31, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
