Minor note: don't forget to always post a link to whatever you want someone to look at, and don't type your name, "sign" is by typing "~" four times in a row, and it'll autosign with time/date/links.
Published Works is fine; you do not want to footnote to the publishers/Amazon/etc because that would be promotional, and generally speaking a book existing or no is considered "self evident" thus not needing evidence. Either there's a 2003 "History of Apples" by J. Smith or there isn't, no controversy there.
Do not link to Ricker's website in the section header, simply provide his official site as the first of your "External links"; that's where everyone will look to see it, there and the infobox should be the only links to his main page, and you can only cite his own page for the most basic non-controversial data like what city his company is based in, or what year founded/born/etc.
So far as Published Works, you want to give the high points but not bewilder the reader, so take a glance at some other musician articles to see how big/small is appropriate. Sorry, a draft that has no encyclopedic value and is clearly and explicitly an advertisement has to be deleted on-sight. If it was a decent basic article that just was too promotional, it would be Declined but left up, but yours was absolutely, positively an advertisement with no informative value at all. Greetings, the standard reply to "but these other pages are no better" is WP:Other stuff exists. Our goal is not to make you "not the absolute worst" article, but to help you reach basic standards. I'm not a sole voter, so if you want to put an explanatory note at the top explaining why you think you meet WP:Notability and hit re-Submit, feel free. That said, have you ready the policy WP:Notability? I would strongly suggest giving it a basic look-thru so you can make an argument. Denny, while this is better, there are still only 3 sources, and not ones that get into a lot of depth discussing Ricker and his career, impact, etc. Can you dig around a bit more, find some news media coverage that discusses him? Not just "hey, Ricker is playing tomorrow at the Casbah", but things like "Rickers work has heavily influenced a new generation of blues musicians, such as [list of examples], including Tom Thompson, who studied under Ricker and dedicated his first album to his teacher". Substantive discussion of why Ricker matters in the big picture.
As a minor example of great scholarly substantiation for one small part of Ricker's significance, note here a passage where it mentions his role in researching pentatonic scale: gBooks link. What you want to find is more pieces like this from serious media or academics, that we can weave together into a cohesive picture of why you should read about Ricker. Make sense? Matthew, If I added some information about the major figures in jazz that Ricker has performed/recorded with, would that lend further credibility? He's played with a lot of big names: Buddy Rich, Stan Getz, Chuck Mangione (the Mangione album Ricker played on won a Grammy), Steely Dan, the Moody Blues, etc. That might illustrate his stature in the music industry.

Not exactly what we need. Fundamentally it's coverage we need, not someone's independent deduction as to why someone matters. Also applicable to your specific question is the policy: Wikipedia:Notability is not inherited.
It's not us literally saying we don't like Ricker, just saying that it's not an encyclopedia's role to record new/unexplored ideas. Instead, as a WP:Tertiary reference an encyclopedia's job is to take "digested" material that other scholars and writers have analyzed and documented, and we organize and simplify it for the wider reading public. If you discovered a new species of turtle in your backyard and wanted to put it on Wikipedia, we'd be excited for you but note that it wouldn't meet WP:Notability until actual scientists published an article in Turtles Today saying "New Turtlis trippus Species Found in Portland!" You could photograph it and film it all the live long day, blog about it everywhere, but we would need to have the turle info appear in peer-reviewed serious publications before a Tertiary can compile it. My favorite dead-simple breakdown is:

Articles require significant coverage

in reliable sources

that are independent of the subject.
If Ricker meets this, by all means press foward. If he does not, that doesn't at all mean he's not important, it just means there's a "missing link" at the WP:Secondary sources level, so either sources exist but we can't find them, or some music journalists and scholars are missing out on a big story and should hop onto producing more research on Ricker's career. Matthew, I could really use some help creating an article for Vail Valley Medical Center. I am lost in WikiWorld! I'm terrible at code--can you help? Again, bear in mind "not Notable" (in our technical sense) does not mean "it's terrible and we don't like it". It rather means "no reason to have an article on Item A any more than any number of similar things". There are billions of people on the planet, but we set a certain bar as to how significant someone has to be to merit an article, otherwise the whole Wikipedia would be nothing but bios of people's boyfriends, Great Uncle Earl, their cat Sparky, etc. Similarly, we can't cover every elementary school and post office in the nation, but we certainly do cover a school if it's been discussed in the wider press for, say, some famous disaster or success that occurred there, or a post office if it is of great architectural recognition.
Fundamentally: who outside of the immediate Vail area is saying "you know what's a really different hospital? Vail Valley". Being a good hospital and doing good work in the community is great, but to have an article you have to show how it's somehow different from thousands doing the same thing. Is it covered in international medical journals? Do academics discussing unusual successes or methods frequently use Vail Valley as an example?
I may not be on for a few days, so strongly suggest you check in at WP:Teahouse to get advice, but link them this dicussion and link them to your draft when you post, so they can see what has and has not been covered already. MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:17, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello Alicia! Nobody is "hating" on your article, it simply does not meet Wikipedia guidelines at all.
  • None of your sources meet WP:Reliable sources at all. IMBD is user-generated content, Facebook and Twitter belong to the subject of the article (and anyone can have them, nothing special there), and TopCat appears to be a promotional site, so again not at all WP:Neutral.
  • Your article gives about zero context for why Alexander is important, why her career is significant, why a reader would want to read about her.
  • Lastly, it is a very bad idea to write an article about yourself. Please definitely read our policy WP:Autobiography which explains why you really do not want to be writing your own article about you. MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:57, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

You're using WP:Articles for creation properly, the trouble is that you're not demonstrating that your topic meets WP:Notability. Even if you just published the article directly without requesting review, it would probably be Speedily Deleted since company/organisation articles must meet WP:Notability to exist. Please take a look at said policy, and you'll see how an article with only footnotes to the subject itself and to YouTube is not strong enough to publish yet. Primo - Footnotes

When you are in Edit mode, you will see the footnotes typed in the middle of the article itself (where the little blue number will appear later) between tags saying <ref> and </ref>. Hello, I'll leave it for others to do the next review, but taking a glance I don't think you're yet getting the thrust of WP:Notability. Again, the point is not "tell us why you think this person matters", the point is "demonstrate how other people have found him important by providing citations to published works where people have found suit to discuss Ricker and his career". That's why the footnotes to his students' sites aren't helpful: unless the site specifically says "Ricker had an influence on me and here's how" than the footnote to the cite really isn't relevant. What would be relevant is if somebody else like an academic or journalist saw fit to discuss Ricker's influence on X, Y, and Z students. Also there's no reason to footnote his own thesis: nobody's doubting he has a thesis, just mention it in the article itself with enough details (publisher, date, serial# if applicable) so a reader could find it if they wanted. Linking to WorldCat doesn't do anything to strengthen that since simply being on WorldCat is not an endorsement. That said, the several news articles you have on music business look to be good support, so that's something. Are there just no articles out there in jazz academic journals or whatever that discuss Ricker's career? Did you not find the passage in an academic book I suggested to you to be citeable? Matthew - I've added a link to review of a performance by one of his students, which includes a reference to Ricker as a "jazz legend": "After receiving bachelor’s and masters of music degrees from Eastman School of Music, a division of University of Rochester, he worked with jazz legends such as Fred Sturm, Bill Dobbins and Ramon Ricker."

Hello Julia.Rose.19, published as Dudley Dudley (politician). Overall in decent shape, but there are a few improvements you can make:
  • Please proofread for spelling and punctuation. Mainly, you have a lot of places where your period or comma is put after the footnote code, when for the sake of tidiness of appearance it should go before. Also in some places you put two or three spacebars rather than one (hitting "space" twice is a relic of the typewriter age).
  • Note at the top the "orphan" tag. Try to find other articles that mention Dudley, or could mention her, and either link her name (if it's there) or else add some brief mention of her (like add a sentence about her anti-refinery mission to the article about the town where it happened). Once you fix that you can remove the WP:Orphan tag.
  • No huge hurry at all, but if you want to tidy up footnotes, check out WP:REFNAME for an easier way to code. I did Refname fixes on your "How Aristotle Lost..." and the "Oral History..." footnotes. Note now how at the bottom of the page instead of being listed over and over, there's one unified footnote with "1a, 1b, 1c" used for the multiple appearances of the notes. Not mandatory, just if you want to tidy up.

Rejection of AFC on Year Walking

Good afternoon! I noticed you had rejected my submission of "Year Walking" in the Articles for Creation section, citing "unreliable sources". The three resources I used (although in the Swedish language) were perfectly verifiable. The Nordisk Familjebok is an old Swedish encyclopaedia - one of the most comprehensive ever produced in the language (at around 38 volumes). www.ne.se is the site of the Nationalencyklopedin, a very comprehensive contemporary encyclopaedia, with the number of articles on the site hovering around 200,000. Wärend Och Wirdarne, by Gunnar Olof Hylten Cavallius, is an old book from 1921, detailing Swedish folklore and pagan practices. Hello Calmbit I believe the issue for both of us is that the "Nationalencyklopedin" appeared to be hosted by an unknown agency, this "Projekt Runeberg", and for me at least I (perhaps mistakenly) thought the Ne.se was user-submitted content like Wikipedia or IMDB. In either case, they're both reference books, which is overall not ideal because we're aiming for an exploration of the topic more than just a basic definition. It may well be that these refs are decent, but our quick initial sweeps raised some concerns that we'd like to clarify. For your next review, you may want to put a short note at the top explaining briefly what the refs are so folks feel comfortable with the reliability of the cite.
For me one of the biggest things is that there is almost no mention of your title-term "year walking" on the whole Internet other than a number of what appear to be interconnected blog posts. If the term Årsgån is commonly used to describe this practice in English, that may be a more reasonable title, and you can explain what it literally means somewhere in the first sentence.
It's an interesting topic, it's just a bit hard for reviewers to figure out the sourcing, so it'd be easier if you had one or two books that were published by serious academic outfits (University of Uppsala or something) so folks could now that peer-reviewed anthropology works explore the issue. I appreciate your concerns, and I thank you for bringing them to my attention - I'll rectify them ASAP. Year Walking is (sadly) a topic not commonly recorded within history, and finding resources on it is not an easy task. However, I shall attempt to grab more resources from official academic outfits. The V-50 Lectures - Article Rejected

Matthew Vanitas,

Thanks for the fast reply and the feedback re: John Pugsley' article "This Is the Way to the Stars" as an example of a reliable source. Of course, I'll reference that article as well as a book by noted Libertarian writer Brian Doherty called "Radicals for Capitalism; A Freewheelin History of the Modern American Libertarian Movement," pgs 323 to 326, which talks about the V-50 Lectures.

Although The V-50 Lectures profoundly affected thousands of people's lives there is, unfortunately, very little written about them. This is what I'm trying to fix by creating this Wikipedia article. The people who attended these lectures are getting old and dying off and this valuable and interesting movement within the American Libertarian movement shouldn't be lost.

Jay Snelson (who is the Creator of The V-50 Lectures) wrote a book just before he died called "Taming the Violence of Faith" which is for sale on Amazon -- I can reference that, as well.

Do you think that will be adequate?

Hello Chasholloway, fundamentally as long as you can show WP:Reliable, WP:Secondary coverage of the event and its impact, we can have an article. So we don't need things written by the lecturer (except to what limited degree we can briefly cite his mission statement or later musings about it). Primarily what we need is other academic authorities saying something along the lines of "hey, those V50 lectures were really important, and here's why..." The more neutral and authoritative the later commentator the better, the article has to be through "outside eyes".
One thing I really want to emphasize, the issue unfortunately, very little written about them is absolutely not an encyclopedia issue. That issue is a pressing one for WP:Primary researchers like journalists and academic researchers. An encyclopedia cannot accept WP:Original research, like "Chas tracks down an attendee and asks for their recollections." Such an interview, however, would be great if someone makes the intereview, and gets an article published in the National Review of "V50 Hits Home: We Interview Four Men Whose Lives Were Changed". We can't cite a raw interview since it isn't yet peer reviewed and endorsed by an authoritative knowledge broker, but if it gets published in the professional realm we can cite it, does that make sense? So when people complain that Wikipedia is stifling them by not accepting their personal awesome knowledge of rural Rajasthani cuisine, and it "must go on Wikipedia because it is not recorded on the internet", our answer is hey, don't hassle us, get a real anthropologist out there so a real pro can observe and record this culture!
I'm on and off of reviewing, so don't wait on my or anything. Just find as many WP:Secondary sources as you can that verify the basic facts and give evidence of how significant the event is seen as, and then hit Resubmit. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:08, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

What exactly do you need help with? Saying "I NEED HELP" is not a very helpful way to ask. Have you noticed, looking at the page, how incredibly cluttered all the text is? Did you just copy-paste it from somewhere and not bother trying to fix the formatting to make it appear correctly on Wikipedia. From what I can tell, you have a broken WP:Infobox (the text box at right of a bio that has basic statistics of a person), and also some of your text appears in a gray box that stretches way across the screen; that problem appears because you're leaving blank space at the start of a line, so do not indent paragraphs on Wikipedia. Jim Stacy page you declined

I must say your response was beyond harsh. It sucks that I was trying to do a good thing for a man that deserves recognition for his contribution. I am not a part of the website where i found the info. It was just the only information I could find in my limited ability. How you found it necessary and acceptable to demean me is beyond me. I am not a writer, I found that information and thought it would be useful and it should be in a place known for information. Sorry you were pained with having read it. This may work in your field when dealing with the public but I refuse to treat people the way you have. Especially people trying to do something good for no reason other than it is right.

I'm opening up your links, hitting Ctrl-F to search for the word "Darling" and finding nothing. It's not my job to try to guess how some link shows this label to be famous, it's up to you to make it clear. A good way is to WP:Footnote your sources to the specific facts they prove. The article SLU grad to release album with Blueberry Hill Records literally says nothing substantive about the label: it just mentions one guy whose album is on the label, and mentions that it exists, is independent, and is in Salem, and that's just the earlier form of the label, not even the article title term. Similarly, the Deli Magazine article doesn't even mention Darling. A "reference" is not some passing mention of a band which happens to be on a label (which isn't even mentioned by name). For WP:Notability we need to see people actually discussing Darling records, like some Portland Times article saying "Salem Indie Label Grows by Leaps and Bounds" or an article in Music Today that lists out to Pacific Northwest indie labels and spends a good paragraph or more discussing how Darling has impacted the scene. Also note WP:Notability is not inherited; it doesn't matter if Darling is somehow linked to the biggest band out there, if no journalist/academic has bothered to say "hey, you know what really got John Smith's career going, his early recordings with Darling", then it's not admissible.
By the way, it's not helpful to copy and paste a whole new draft onto the page; it confuses reviewers because it's not clear what draft you want us to read. Only have one version on the page at a time, use the "History" tab to go "back in time" through drafts if you somehow lose something. Also, remember all the reviewers are volunteers, so mind what you write so it doesn't come across as hostile, because nobody's going to want to help out if you're accusing people. You really want to carefully read WP:Notability and make sure your article actually hits those requirements. MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:16, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
