Article on Gilbert Hitch considered for deletion

Hello Matthew

I submitted an article on Gilbert Hitch to which you responded "Fix the footnoting situation for the basic facts of his life and this will be ready to publish."

In response I have removed all unverified content in the biographical content along with footnoting. The only remaining biographical content is verified by primary documentation.

The stamp reference is verified, being found acceptable, and yet the article is being nominated for deletion. Can you please indicate what grounds render it as unacceptable that I may make necessary adjustments.Sintch (talk) 17:00, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. Your edit here is not the correct way to go about removing an article from wikipedia. You need to file a WP:AFD for the page. All you did was created a redirect pointing to itself (an endless loop) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 17:31, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

Bob Lilley and Jim Sweeney's deletion of Article

To: Chiswick Chap

To be honest with you I do not now careless whether the article is kept or not since those who are in the know already know and those who need to know can find the information in other places. I do not intend to continue my work in Wikipedia any longer. Since there are hundreds of articles about insignificants writing about themselves and there is a lots of trash in Wikipedia written by people about themselves which has been approved like Ikechi Anya who is hardly someone notable in football etc. etc. If anything Bob Lilley SAS would merit mention more then many already in Wikipedia.Pop goes the we (talk) 10:31, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

The Hall Affair, Gosport

Hi, Firstly I'm sorry for my English is very poor.

I edit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hall_Affair,_Gosport - originaly consist only #REDIRECT Hall Affair. But we want only http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hall_Affair,_Gosport and not http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_Affair.

Could you delete article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_Affair, and keep only http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hall_Affair,_Gosport. There are good reasons why it must be The Hall Affair, Gosport not only 'Hall Afair'.

Than you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by G4Rb1 (talkcontribs) 22:23, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello, if you want to propose a name change, you need to suggest it at Talk:The_Hall_Affair,_Gosport first. Also, do not copy and paste a whole article, as this loses the History of the page. Instead, there is a "Move" option just to the left of the Wikipedia "Search" box instead. Please use the "Move" button instead of just pasting an article. Thanks! Hi Mr Matthew Vanitas

Compliments of the day.

Re: perspectives of the offence of receiving stolen property and unlawful possession under nigerian criminal law

The above article was deleted by your humble self some couple of days ago. You gave your reason for the said deletion to the effect that the article appears to be a school paper copy pasted into the wikipedia. With due respect this assertion is incorrect. The article is not copied from anywhere or from anybody's work.

In terms of the sources of the article - these are verifiable and I think they are also authentic. I am therefore writing you with a kind request that you may wish to look at the article again and, see how you can assist to bring it to the required standard. I would be highly obliged.

Thanks

Yours sincerely

How do I have my rewritten article validated ?

Hello !

I'm writing to you because I'm very new to this and I need your help. You reviewed and declined my article in December, and moved it somewhere. I rewrote it, calming down the (in hindsight, and as you pointed out) far too enthusiastic prose, and backed everything up with lots of sources and references. And I saved it last week. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Herv%C3%A9_L._Leroux&oldid=533380180

I thought this meant that it was thus passed on for review, but it seems to be just sitting there.... How do I move it so that someone can review it, please ?

I would be very grateful for your help !

My sincerest advance thanks,` K — Preceding unsigned comment added by Comtessederibes (talkcontribs) 23:16, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello Matthew. Few months ago, i came across Vishal Kandukuri article created by you through AFC submission (on October 2012 MatthewVanitas) and been rated with start class low importance. This article was found deleted just few days ago. Through Google, i was able to find many notable sources of this person which could be helpful for recreation of article, i guess. Please guide me over how to contribute ?, shall i create a new page with different content using these sources?

i think this person is subject of significant coverage in reliable secondary sources such as The hindu NEW , ibn live, Economic Times, Deccan Chronicle, Postnoon, Hybiz tv, Namaste telangana , Andhra Prabha, Eenadu , Sakshi and more. Wether the subject is notable hyperlocally should be irrelevant for Wikipedia due to WP:NOTPAPER . Furthermore, vishal kandukuri has been a speaker at TED per previous Files:Vishal Kandukuri delivering talk at TED conference.jpg and File:Vishal_Kandukuri_talking_at_TED_conference.jpg. All this, in sum, makes him notable per WP:BIO. Wether the article was on opinion as ad or whatever should have been irrelevant for an AfD, i guess, that should be content dispute and should not have been for deletion. As subject seems to be a constant performer. i think he has more than enough reliable secondary sources for recreation of article as it satisfies WP:GNG.Randioten (talk) 16:08, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello Matthew,

Thanks for your comments on the page I created for the Ancient India and Iran Trust. I have edited it slightly to include a number of references from external websites, I hope this will now mean that it meets the standards required. It is difficult to find external sources as we are an independent charitable organisation and the main source for information about us is our own website! Lincolnshire Bagpipes

Hello Matthew,

I am a musician and researcher living in Lincolnshire, and am currently working on the creation of an exhibition to reflect the (medieval and renaissance) history of pipes and piping in Lincolnshire - especially in connection with the Moorby Stone.

In terms of the lack of proof that a unique (regional variant) bagpipe ever existed in Lincolnshire and in view of my observations that all the other literary references we have discovered could be interpreted in two ways (either referring to bagpipes IN Lincolnshire or to bagpipes OF Lincolnshire), it is my view that the Pepys quote (which you removed) is a valid part of the article.

I would be very interested in your views?

I am also on Twitter and Facebook - if you would like to meet me there please search for "Trombone Angel".

Kind Regards,

Al.

I cannot see deleted pages since I'm not an administrator, and I did not arrange the deletion, so I can't really help there. I suggest you ask RHaworth. The coding your draft was deleted for (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement) generally means that the content in the article appears to be copy-pasted from another website. It may well be the case that it's copy-pasted from your website, but you'd have to consult with an admin to make it clear that you are the owner of the material and authorize it to be copied to Wikipedia. PLEASE HELP - Article submitted for creation declined for a third time.

Hello Matthew. I hope you can help me again. I apologize for troubling you, but I need your counsel. The Article on Robert Lombardo which I submitted for creation last year has been declined yet again. I've made changes and cited reputable, verifiable sources. I've benefited from your helpful comments. I resubmitted twice, based upon helpful suggestions by another reviewer. However,I find today that the article has been declined yet again, this time by a user who is still in High School and citing nothing other than notability guidelines.

I have corresponded with the Director of the Music Conservatory at Northwestern University, who kindly gave me additional references which I included. Lombardo's original compositions are included in the University collection. He has an important piece residing at the Library of Congress. I believe that perhaps the editor in question may not be experienced enough to decline this submission. I would appreciate it very much if you would review it yourself and let me know what your assessment is at this time. This composer is unquestionably - in my mind - eligible for inclusion. I base this conclusion upon the actual referenced sources, as well as a review of other living musicians who are included with far less substantiation.

Thank you again for your help.--Final4one (talk) 13:40, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Mers are Rajput. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hindoostani (talkcontribs) 15:32, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Changes in Shivaji's Agra Escape info

Message from Vidyapati (edited the Shivaji page for escape from Agra) The currently accepted theory of Shivaji's (and Sambhaji's) escape from Agra estimates the date of escape as 17 Aug 1666 AD, since they were discovered absconding on 18 Aug 1666. Hence that date needs to be amended to 17 Aug 1666 AD.

If you do not want to mention the author's name (Dr. Ajit Joshi) it is fine. However, only his research and estimate shows the date of Shivaji's escape as 22 July 1666. Hence the mention of "other sources" is not appropriate. There are no "other sources" than Dr. Joshi's research!

Hope this explanation is acceptable. Request you to please keep the changes I have suggested.

I will be adding a lot of information about Shivaji and related personnel (including new articles) to Wikipedia soon.

Thanks & best regards, VIDYAPATI — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vidyapati (talkcontribs) 15:29, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Need some help

Arjunnattar (talk) 17:18, 12 April 2013 (UTC) How do i add some meaningful information about the Kallar Page? I have been trying to add references from books, excerpts from Scientific research from reputed Organisation(eg.,National Geography). But the posts are deleted saying they are not valid reference. I have also checked the Wiki Reliable source guidelines and they fall under the category. Have we started arguing that Nationa geogrpahies research are not valid? I have lots of information which can be added to that topic, but i am afraid it is all going to be deleted since one particular admin thinks it is not valid. What is a valid reference and an invalid reference?I am sorry, but when the british wrote about a denotified tribe we are ready to use it as reference, and the only reason they denotitied us were because we did not oblige them.It has been ruled by the UN that denotification of tribes is not correct, since they did it for colonialism. I have got videos from National geography to validate my references and they are deleted since one admin think they are variables. I really do not know then what is a reliable source? So do you think National Geography wanted to glorify a particular tribe and they spent millions on this project.

Greetings, I'm finding it somewhat hard to follow your argument, since you're covering a lot of broad details I'm not familiar with. As a point of general advice about dealing with controversial materials, I strongly suggest you go to Talk:Kallar and post a few bullet points of sentences you'd like to add, with a clear, full citation. Not to mock, but if someone says "I'm angry that Other Editor is saying the fobal tree is not indigenous to New Zealand, I have many resources that show that it is, why are they being ignored????" then it's very hard for other readers to see specifically what you're talking about, and it gives the discussion an emotional and argumentative tone. Instead, for this same fictional example, one could get a lot more credibility writing something like the following:
On 10 April at 12:23, Other Editor removed my statement "The fobal tree is indigenous to New Zealand" (link), stating that it is not indigenous to there, but is indigenous to Tasmania. I have a very strong source directly supporting the New Zealand argument:
  • Sarah Anderson. Florae of New Zealand. Wellington Press, 2008. -- Page 43 (GoogleBooks link) specifically states "The gobal, nobal, and fobal trees are indigenous to New Zealand, and though previously found in Tasmania and the Cook Islands, became extinct in all areas outside of New Zealand prior to European colonisation."
Now, any other editor coming to arbitrate between you and "Other Editor" can clearly see what specific issues are in contention, MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:19, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Arjunnattar (talk) 18:51, 12 April 2013 (UTC) Thanks a lot Matthew. It makes sense but the problem is when we add something from a credible source and when some one deletes it saying it is a variable and they do it based on their perspective, without going through the source, you just feel terrible. Ok,i will post the material and reference and will add them after approval.

Please put your signature at the end of your post, by custom. Thanks!
No problem, glad to help. I know it can be really frustrating to hit controversy on Wikipedia, but the best thing is to keep a cool head. You must bear in mind, just because you understand the situation does not mean all other observers do, which is why it is very important to be very precise and clear on Talk:Kallar. As a small example, when you say "when some one deletes it saying it is a variable" I have no idea what you mean. But if you were to say "On 10 April I added mention that the fobal tree grows over 5 metres, but on 10 April OtherEditor removed that sentence, leaving the edit summary it is a variable." then I would know exactly what you're referring to.
Come to Talk:Kallar and share with us very specific examples of things you would like to change, and provide a link to any sources. If there is a specific disagreement that is frustrating you, make sure you in a calm and not angry way clarify "I want to add X, but OtherEditor says X is not true, and that Y is true". If an editor gets angry and insults someone, or accuses them of hating Fobal trees, then other editors will not want to help him. Instead, it is best that everyone be calm and WP:Assume good faith. That is, OtherEditor most probably is not trying to cause trouble, but is trying to help keep Wikipedia accurate. Just please provide us clear and calm details, and folk can work with you and any disagreeing editors to help everyone arrive at the best decision. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:04, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Arjunnattar (talk) 19:13, 16 April 2013 (UTC) I have added some more references since Admin(Sitush) does not trust them as reliable references. I have added some references from the Book itself which was based on the research and other references which gives more information on the research.

Arjunnattar (talk) 03:10, 25 April 2013 (UTC) Can you please allow me to add the necessary information? I have given enough references and haven't received a response yet.

Arjunnattar (talk) 14:08, 3 May 2013 (UTC) What is wrong with my edits? I am trying to engage in a conversation and i am giving the necessary references. Are you disputing that the M130 markers are not the oldest markers in the Indian gene? Please help me understand, why should we not add something that was based on a study.

Re: Ghorpad

The Ghorpad is Varanus bengalensis: despite the name, indicating "Bengal", it is ubiquitous throughout South Asia, though it is presently considered endangered. The wikipedia entries on both "Monitor Lizard" and "Bengal Monitor", mention the name "Ghorpad" for the monitor in Maharashtra.

The iguana is a **New World*(/Pacific Island (e.g., Galapagos, Fiji) species that was not known to people from the West (and certainly not to villagers from the Indian subcontinent) until Columbus and Cortez. "Iguana" is a Spanish word derived from the original Arawak/Taino.

In other words, even if the ghorpad was not the monitor, it would most definitely not have been the iguana, and reference 2, while it got the origin of the surname right, made a mistake with respect to the lizard species. Prakash Nadkarni (talk) 16:31, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Cool, that makes a lot of sense. But instead of a footnote that doesn't really address the Ghorpad clan, I would suggest instead that you change the word to "monitor" to be more correct, and then make that term a link to Varanus bengalensis. You raise a good point, just the way you changed it was a bit bulky. Thanks for catching this mistake/mistranslation from the source. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:33, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Scrambled Eggs

Definition
The definition for 'scambled eggs' starts of with 'recipes', using the term beaten eggs, instead of scrambled eggs. This is plainly wrong? Approveds (talk) 08:34, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
On the off-chance that you're simply confused and not just trolling: have you simply not noticed that other Wikipedia articles don't start out with a jumble of text before the bolded title term even appears? It's not even just that you're edit warring or being pedantic, or not providing sources, it's that you're not even slightly bothering to follow formatting conventions used on 4.2 million articles.
