Tournament record[edit]

Well-sourced, but IMO not to be included in the article per WP:EXCESS until he has a tournament record which is notable in itself; this info is recorded here for possible future use.

IMO, not worth adding to the article now or possibly ever, even as WP:ELs, per WP:EXCESS and WP:TRIVIA; but they're fun, contain information unavailable elsewhere, are from an original and good source, and weren't easy to find; they're worth recording for general interest.

Inline citations are used properly everywhere but I see one line at the end of the article which is unsourced so please fix that.. otherwise no big issues. Elo Rating Discrepancy[edit]

We need to emphasize that Tani's practical Elo rating is around 2100, but his actual FIDE Rating is lower simply because matches over the board were suspended due to COVID. The discrepancy in the into makes that very confusing. CessnaMan1989 (talk) 18:04, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The statement "On May 1, 2021, at only 10 years old, Adewumi crossed the 2200 Elo rating threshold needed to achieve the official USCF title of National Master, making him the 28th-youngest chess player in history ever to do so." is obviously wrong, especially when considering the next paragraph "In August, he won the under-12 division of the North American Youth Chess Championship with a score of 8/9. He became a FIDE Master, having surpassed a FIDE rating of 2100 in November 2021." According to the FIDE Rating Progress Chart he had a rating of 1821 in May 2021.--Kreuzberger (talk) 21:59, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adewumi a FIDE Master[edit]

Adewumi is (or will soon be, once it's made official) now a FIDE Master. He has accomplished this due to his winning a qualifying tournament; see "TITLES TO BE AWARDED at " https://naycc2021.com/ which links to https://handbook.fide.com/chapter/B01DirectTitles2017 which details the tournaments and requirements to be directly awarded a FIDE title, regardless of rating.

@Sj: recently added, "This means that he can becoming a FIDE Master upon reaching a FIDE rating of 2100." to the article which, besides being unsourced, assumes he has not already qualified through the direct awarding of titles for winning certain tournaments, as Adewumi did. I'm going to go ahead and remove that line, and add to the article the fact that he has "earned" the title (using the verb chess.com chose to use). I don't think saying he IS a "FIDE Master" is correct until FIDE makes it official.SaltySaltyTears (talk) 20:56, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disregard the above. According to https://handbook.fide.com/chapter/B01Regulations2017 there is indeed a requirement for a player to achieve a rating of 2100 at some time in their career to obtain the FIDE Master award, and it looks like chess.com is wrong. Thanks for updating, nice to run into a vet. I didn't look for a cite since the article links to FIDE titles which describes the reqs at a high level. Nothing worse than when a usually-reliable source puts up an inaccurate post and then we get stuck in a round of citogenesis! Adewumi must be getting a lot of this; he put a correction in his own chess.com player profile. – SJ + 13:03, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
