First Lady/Gentleman?[edit]

Just wondering why this was moved from "List of spouses of the president of Finland" to "First Ladies and Gentlemen of Finland". The former seems to be a entirely accurate and clear title but the latter is (as far as I can determine) a US specific phrase which is far less clear. Mtpaley (talk) 22:15, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, that does seem strange. To me, 'first lady' is already odd enough (by which I mean, an Americanism rather than standard English term), but who decided that the male spouse gets the title 'first gentleman'? If that was actually decreed by some authoritative source in Finland (say, Kielitoimisto or Presidentin Kanslia) in connection with the only male spouse there has been so far, then fine; but I rather suspect the term is the work of whoever created this article. In Finnish we have always used the term 'puoliso' (which is gender-neutral, and without any reference to a 'first') when referring to the presidential spouse. The terms 'first lady' or 'first gentleman' are purely fictional and should not be used. --Kaldur (talk) 21:28, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
