2011 village election[edit]

@Magnolia677: One of the things which has been removed a couple of times was the following (there were citations): "In March 2011, Roslyn Estates held one of its most contested elections for Mayor, in which incumbent Susan Ben-Moshe lost by 10 votes to Jeffery Schwartzberg; Ben-Moshe received 178 votes while Schwartzberg received 188."

I understand that it has been considered as "not notable" in the history section but I am confused as to why that is. On the WP:USCITIES page, it recommends that topics which should be included in a history section include (but are not limited to) "occupying powers/transitions of power" and "events that shaped the community." The way I see it, the removed information quoted above fits both categories. There are many small villages on Long Island. Elections in tiny villages here on Long Island (like Roslyn Estates) can be very big deals when they become contested and/or contentious (like the one referenced in the removed material). In fact, they can become so dramatic or tight that major papers (i.e.: Newsday and sometimes even the New York Times) report on them.

I feel it's notable but that's just my opinion. I don't want to re-add it without reaching a mutual consensus with other editors. AITFFan1 (talk) 21:42, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Magnolia677: So it summarizes some of the key local races that took place in March 2011. As I said, the Roslyn Estates election was publicized. The article had a specific section specifically on the election in Roslyn Estates for the village government. It stated that since Schwartzberg won by just 10 votes, they had to continue counting absentee ballots, and how the election was very "stressful." Schwartzberg was also interviewed and was quoted saying how he felt "absolutely fabulous... top of the mountain." AITFFan1 (talk) 23:45, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You want to add an edit describing this as "one of its most contested elections for Mayor", and have stated that elections like this can become "very big deals" and that "major papers" covered this contentious election in a non-routine way. @Magnolia677: I can provide the link to the database system which I discovered it through: www.proquest.com. Unfortunately I could only find the article via. ProQuest (which is why the source included "–Via ProQuest"). Check to see if your local library subscribes to the service, and if so, log in following the instructions provided by your library. Then, in parenthesis, type "Incumbents win in..." and select the custom date range option and choose March 1, 2011 – March 31, 2011 (the article was published by Newsday on March 16, 2011). Also, please note that certain papers may not be included in your library's subscription, so if nothing from Newsday appears in the search results, then that's why. Hope this helps. @Magnolia677: I felt it was notable since it was from a major newspaper, and and accessible (and thus verifiable) through a scholarly database (which is to be entered using the "via" option when adding a news citation; ProQuest is actually one of the examples listed). That's just my opinion, and with that said, if the bit isn't included in the article it's not a big deal. I'll leave it out of the article. AITFFan1 (talk) 17:46, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Watershed sources/deleted content[edit]

@Magnolia677: You might want to look at the maps and read the text in the documents/sources in the parts you deleted on the sub-watersheds. In them you will find that Roslyn Estates is indeed in the Hempstead Harbor and Leeds Pond sub-watersheds (and in the Hempstead Harbor document you will find the boundaries of the watershed within the village. The information is 100% accurate, notable as per WP:USCITIES, and verifiable, and therefore should be included. AITFFan1 (talk) 22:57, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
