Looking Good![edit]

Due to quite a bit of collaborative work by a number of people, this page has really come together. The trick is to keep it that way. Due to the immaturity of some NFL fans, this page will suffer vandalism as long as Harvin is an active player. However, that's an easy fix (revert). However, I have noticed on this and other pages, that entries are reverted for no apparent reason. If you do "revert" an edit, please state the reason in the Edit Summary. Thanks all! Awards[edit]

Anyone want to tell me how a pop warner tournament and a midget relay are notable achievements and warrant mention? My son was most improved player on his middle school basketball team, if he grows up to be in the NBA, will we list that too? "Awards" sections need not mention trivial things like a pop warner trophy, but legitimate things, like NCAA Championships. 99.169.250.133 (talk) 05:17, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you as well I don't think those accomplishments are notable and should be removed, but we need reach a consensus here. GWST11 (talk) 06:15, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is interesting information and if we have it I don't see why it should be left out. The very first one, the midget relay team seems kind of useless. If they were the national champion midget relay team or something I would be all in, but participation does not get you a ribbon in the real world. The membership of the nation champ pop warner team is kind of a big deal, and the regional recognitions are not huge, but still interesting and unarguably encyclopedic information. Just because we do not have detail on the childhood of other athletes does not mean we should dummy down this article to match the others when we have the information already on hand. Removal is out of the question, but I could agree with it being moved to his childhood section. Garkeith (talk) 09:12, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Removal is most certainly not out of the question. The question is whether or not they are notable accomplishments. To me, they're trivial accomplishments, of no real note or reknown. 99.169.250.133 (talk) 20:17, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How are you gauging what is notable here, and which policy are you using as your basis for removing what you believe to be "trivial accomplishments"? Dreadstar 03:40, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal certainly IS out of the question, like I said before, for the reasons I stated above. The first entry is sketchy because I don't know what it is, it should be open to further discussion and if no one can tell us why it is notable we will agree to remove it as a group, the others bullet points are definatly valid information that demonstrate the players dominance at all levels of his playing career and they will not be removed as long as this article is on my watch list. Garkeith (talk) 05:33, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm the one who added those details. First, he was on a NATIONAL CHAMPION AAU 4x100 relay team and a NATIONAL CHAMPION Pop Warner football team. Winning two NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in two different sports before your 14th birthday demonstrates a natural athletic prowess, particularly when combined with High School State Championships (in two different sports) and a College National Championship. I agree with Garkeith... just because we don't have that level of detail on others doesn't mean it shouldn't be included. Case in point: I largely authored the Lenny Hambro page (a second tier jazz musician). As a result of my effort, this page is far more extensive than other jazz musicians who were historically far more significant (Ray McKinley and Paul Gonsalves, for instance). Does that mean I should remove all the detail from the Lenny Hambro page to make it as sparse as the others? Of course not. See also?[edit]

Under the "See also" section, it includes "List of Philadelphia Eagles players". Percy Harvin has never been an Eagle (at least not to this point). I don't find an equivalent option for "List of Minnesota Vikings players", otherwise I'd have updated the link. Should this just be removed? Drewskavich (talk) 15:17, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed it. It was probably added in error. Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:06, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Combine numbers[edit]

I was looking at the NFL combine data, and it looks like Harvin ran a 4.41 40 yard dash, but this article mentions 4.25

Should the article be updated with data from the official NFL Combine page?

Here's where I saw the 2009 WR performers and Harvin is listed as having run it in 4.41 seconds http://www.nfl.com/combine/top-performers#year=2009&workout=FORTY_YARD_DASH&position=WR — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:4898:80E8:EE31:0:0:0:2 (talk) 03:08, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New York Jets[edit]

I've protected the page to hopefully stem off some of the over zealous users who want to keep up with breaking news of him being traded to the Jets before it's official. Assuming that the rumors are true, he still has to pass a physical. Quite simply, until it's official (announced by the NFL or the team(s)), it's not official. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 00:07, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The NFL front page already has multiple articles on the trade, but I agree that it's not 100% official until he passes the physical. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:41, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You mean this article that says "...according to a source informed of the situation."? Thanks. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 00:56, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think NFL.com and all the other big sports media sites would run such a big story if there was no credibility involved, but I agree that it's best to wait until the physical. However, the "source" isn't anonymous, and even WP:SPORTSTRANS says the player could be reflected in the article as being a member of the team, even prior to an official announcement by the team. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 01:01, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to try reading that again. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 01:08, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is ridiculous that I had to move to full protection, but I can't be watching over this all weekend. If another admin disagrees, feel free to unprotect. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 03:06, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's now on the Seahawks and Jets official site, so I don't know why you are still protecting the page and seeming hostile. Even if he fails the physical, you can always just revert like you've already done. Doesn't WP:SPORTSTRANS also say "When extensive coverage exists, reliable sources may report a transaction based on anonymous sources." ~ Dissident93 (talk) 16:31, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
D93, Jauerback has not edited since 11 pm last night. Please take this to another administrator who is familiar with American sports issues and get the page protection removed -- I suggest you try Bagumba or Go_Phightins!. Jauerback's lockdown has served its purpose, and now needs to be removed. If he were available, we could ask him directly, but he's not. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:55, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dissident, I was not being hostile about it. I was protecting a BLP. And, no, that's not what it says. Like I said before, you really should reread that since you keep mistating it. Yes, that's a quote, but it's out of context. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 21:45, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Jauerback: Fair enough, however the Wikipedia policies and guidelines should be more clear IMO. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 17:50, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's unlocked. In the future, as stated above, you don't need me to unlock the page. Any admin could have done it. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 21:39, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Percy[edit]

There are reports that he is coming out of retirement, so you might wanna put that notice message on the top of the page TheCowboysSuck60807 (talk) 13:32, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If he receives a workout from an NFL team, we can remove "former" from the lead. Until then, he still hasn't received any interest from NFL teams in the last three years. Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens have also expressed interest in playing again, but since no NFL team has worked them out they remain "former" players. Eagles 24/7 (C) 14:46, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
