Boxers change their names[edit]

I think Lookchaomaekhemthong looks suspicious as the name of the Japanese boxer as it does not seem at all like a Japanese name (or possible of being rendered in Japanese, as for other languages... It is not Chinese... I don’t know much about Korean names but it does not seem likely) and searches under that name turn up very little. Very often, kickboxers change their names to the names of their gyms or trainers, sometimes for just one match. Anyway, that's what The Nation was reporting, and it's the only source I have for now. Wisekwai 17:47, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As Wisekwai mentioned, many kickboxers (specifically professional Muay Thai boxers) use the name of the gym or trainer who taught them as their surname for the purposes of their kickboxing career. The name Lookchaomaekhemthong is a Thai name, and is most likely the surname chosen by the Japanese fighter (Kenshiro Lookchaomaekhemthong), reflecting where this kickboxer trained.

Should Nong Toom be added to the List of Female Kickboxers?[edit]

Should Nong Toom be added to the List of female kickboxers? I don't know the answer to this question. My personal belief (which has nothing to do with Wikipedia policies) is that transgendered folks should be grouped in the category of their choosing, and Nong Thoom has chosen to live as a woman. However, the regulating bodies for the sport she is competing in might have another view. She could be in a category all her own, which raises more troubling concerns for the categorists and list-makers. No mention of the gym in Chiang Mai[edit]

In Thailand boxers take the name of the gym where they train. Kiatbusaba is a well known gym in the north-west corner of Chiang Mai. It is run by Andy Thompson. Can someone contribute more info about this period.

worldwide tag?[edit]

Whats with the worldwide tag anyway? Doesnt mean a dmn thing to me and I see nothing whatsover wrong with the article other than perhaps some referencing (and the requisite facts may well be in the links anyway). Edit needed for style[edit]

Could someone edit this so that it doesn't sound like its a heroic biography? For example, instead of "she realized her gender identity", write "Parinya stated that she discovered her gender identity when she was..." etc. Gabr-el 04:07, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References to 'he' should be changed to 'she'[edit]

Why? The article says he is a kathoey. The article for kathoey says they self-identify as males, "'kathoey' suggests that the person self-identifies as a type of male". Additionally, "Legal recognition of kathoeys is non-existent in Thailand: even after genital reassignment surgery, they are not allowed to change their legal sex." Surely, then, he is a he? He or she[edit]

Before operation - the person was gender-specific - "he". After operation - "she". It is not disrespectfull to use apply both sides to biography, because biography was a change. To draw analogy, it is not disrespectfull to call "tea" as water, before water became tea.
