R101 road (Ireland)North Circular Road (Dublin)WP:COMMONNAME. Undo a previous move for which a spurious "Standard regional road title format" reason was given. Who decided this format was standard? Any such standard must work around a general policy like COMMONNAME and cannot override it. If consistency is desired, well the proposed name also matches South Circular Road (Dublin). jnestorius(talk) 22:45, 26 June 2012 (UTC) Support per nom. Support per the common name reason given in the nomination, but also: the R101 does run along the North Circular, but also runs along other Dublin streets, for example along Infirmary Road on the eastern edge of the Phoenix Park and Portland Row and Sheriff Street at the eastern end. (All of which is included in the section from the Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) Order 2006 used in the reference.) Nor does the R101 include all of the North Circular Road, contrary to the assertion in the article; some of the North Circular is included in the N2 and N3 in Phibsborough. (By the way, the Statutory Instrument mentioned above had been overtaken by one issued this year, which includes the portion of the North Circular north of the Mater Hospital, but still not all of the NCR is part of the R101.) And in any case, being part of a national route or regional road doesn't change the official name of a street; an SI designating a route describes it running along particular streets or roads, but doesn't officially change the name of those streets; the N1 runs along O'Connell Street, and has for decades, but nobody would suggest that O'Connell Street has been renamed or should be merged into the N1 article. As per the common name, well I had to check what the heck the R101 was when I saw this pop up on my watchlistFlowerpotmaN·(t) 00:03, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just a quick addition: I have nothing against a separate R101 article, as it is a fairly significant route, but this article should be returned to the original locationFlowerpotmaN·(t) 00:21, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • I accept that the two do not coincide, but I don't think there's enough divergence to merit separate articles. The statutory instrument even uses the description "North Circular Road, Dublin". However, any of the other R101 streets might have a separate article (or redirect elsewhere) if they are notable and there is enough content: Infirmary Road, Berkeley Road, Portland Row, Seville Place, Sheriff Street Lower and Upper. IMO Sheriff Street just about pulls its weight, though it should link to R101 [sic]. jnestorius(talk) 11:10, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per rationale given above. --HighKing (talk) 18:46, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your hurry. — O'Dea (talk) 12:11, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fairly typical stuff here O'Dea! What portion of the R101 does the NCR involve. If it's less than 100% we need to create a separate article. I also note that none of this disputatious editors thought to tag the North Circular Road to the Irl project. tut, tut. Sarah777 (talk) 15:13, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
