Untitled[edit]

This article needs some serious clean up and rearranging.

I agree with the merge. Both sides are about the TV series.219.93.44.71 07:59, 28 September 2006 (UTC) I can't believe this isn't addressed: Madeline appears to be an orphan in almost every respect with exception to the Madeline's Christmas illustration which depicts her sitting under a Christmas tree with two parents and a sibling. The movie stating her as a "ward of the court" always seemed inconsistent with the books for that reason. Bemelmans did not complete that book, he died while doing the illustrations, and his widow and daughter finished it, to my understanding. Oh, and who listed the TV show character names, the only name I remember hearing frequently was Chloe, and that name wasn't even listed.Cbflagg 05:14, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the first book, there's also the line about Madeline receiving a dollhouse from her "papa". Nicole, Chloe and Danielle were the other more prominent girls. I think someone watched the credits carefully for the names. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.122.217.114 (talk) 10:38, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Setting[edit]

The first book of this series was apparently published in 1939. However, there are several references identifying its setting as late 1940's France. The implication is that the setting changed some time after the first book was published, but nowhere is this made clear, nor are the circumstances behind this change explained. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.74.79.161 (talk) 09:40, 8 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Names for the PC games[edit]

I guess it doesn't matter too much, but it would be nice to know what the name of those PC games are. I remember we had a lot of them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TetsujinSaiki (talkcontribs) 00:53, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name changes[edit]

Madeline's best friends[edit]

According to The Gumball Rally Chapter 1: Make it Big from Fanfiction.net, the names of Madeline's best friends are Chloe, Nicole, Danielle, Yvette, Nona, Anne, Juliette, Monique, Lulu, Sylvie and Ellie (Note: Ellie was known as Simone, though, on the 1995 ABC episode "Madeline and the Science Project").

Janine[edit]

Janine is a worry-wart, but very good friends with everyone, especially Dominique and Anne.

Plot synopsis?[edit]

Is the story similar to La Maternelle??

What's it all about?[edit]

I think someone should add a section discussing what the big deal is with Madeline... why is it so popular, what the plot is about, and so forth.

Because as I see it now, all it has is info about the fact that it exists, period, and the media produced under its name. Now unless Wikipedia's rules state that the article for a story like Madeline should ONLY have this info, this article has a LOT to desire for. - Nick15 (talk) 18:14, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Now that I think about it, I guess the fact that there should be more in this article has been noticed by others, that's why there's all those notices at top saying "must add more stuff to be a 'Start-class article'" and so forth. Well, in that case, I'll just say this just in case another non-regular Wikipedian like me comes by and doesn't notice the stuff at top. :) - Nick15 (talk) 18:17, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Finished Major Expansion and Revamp[edit]

I have recently completed my major expansion and revamp, I hope now the article in question is up to wikipedia standards and is set-out in an way which is more easy on the eyes. Through this Expansion and Revamp I have: added every reference and cited it to all information that needed one, added numerous sections, added more information to sections, created tables such as the Interactive table which showcases all CD-Roms released and DVD table which also shows who distributed it and when it was released/published, I have also updated all sections to the present day of which is July 19th 2010. I also plan to finish the section of DVD's on television series whcih I started, which there is many of and will take a long time to finish. Matt-tastic (talk) 12:16, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have finished DVD section now and removed the tag Matt-tastic (talk) 07:10, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

As requested at WikiProject Children's literature, I have reassessed this article as a C class. To improve further, I suggest changing some of the amazon.com sources to more reliable sites, or simply providing a wider range of sources. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 08:02, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problem in Pepito section of Characters (Main)[edit]

At the end of the Pepito section it says - Messi was banned from Soccer Matchs forever until he can change his ways for being rude to a Brizzle Striker witch he had and a Soccer Inpestor siad he can play Soccer on his Soccer team but decides he likes played Soccer with the girls and boys

This must have meant to be a seperate character. I would edit the typos, but I'm not really sure what it is supposed to say. I'm not an expert on the book characters - can someone correct this section? Thanks. Karenthewriter (talk) 22:28, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Author[edit]

The article says that Bemelmans was Austrian, but the German-language Wikipedia says that he was an American author of Austrian extraction, which seems more likely. The citation given for 'Austrian' here is not convincing. http://www.madeline.com/author.htm notes that he moved to the USA in 1914 (when he must have been 15 or 16 years old) and became a US citizen in 1918. All his books were written while he was a US citizen. So I think it would be more accurate to change the article to call him a US author originally from Austria.

Since there is a citation on the 'Austrian', albeit a bad one, I don't want to go in and just change this fact myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ed Avis (talkcontribs) 17:30, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merger with The New Adventures of Madeline[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to merge. JohnInDC (talk) 19:30, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This has been proposed before but I'm not sure it was done right so I figure to do it again and finish the job started in 2007. I'm proposing to merge The New Adventures of Madeline into this article. That article has nothing in it but a list of characters that seems to overlap / duplicate substantially the list here. Indeed there's more discussion here about the history of that series than there is in that article. I think even a simple redirect would work. Comments? Simone ?[edit]

In the Peer's part there is a female called Sylvie, but it says she is also called Simone sometimes, What episodes is she called Simone and who says it ? 194.46.224.88 (talk) 14:45, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Season?[edit]

The article says that Madeline is 7, then parenthetically "(8 in season 3)". This is a book, it doesn't have seasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.217.149.210 (talk) 17:02, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Choosing a citation style[edit]

Hello! I'm working on cleaning up the references for Madeline, and we need to choose a consistent citation method. Currently there are refs within the text and as part of a ref list. I am more comfortable with refs in the text, but I can move them all to the list if that's what people prefer. Thoughts, Blakegripling ph, others? – gwendy (talk) 01:02, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say go for the inline refs then, mostly for the sake of consistency with other articles. Blake Gripling (talk) 09:59, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Film[edit]

The wiki page is missing reference to two movie release in the 2000s.

First being "My Fair Madeline" released in 2002.

The second movie is called "Madeline in Tahiti" and was release in 2007, although little seems to be known around the production of this movie.

I would edit it in myself but this is my first time using any features on Wikipedia and i wouldn't want to screw anything up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Littlebples (talkcontribs) 06:27, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Clavel[edit]

This page describes Miss Clavel as a nun, but this is unlikely.

In the article: https://www.npr.org/2013/10/11/230949629/at-75-shes-doing-fine-kids-still-love-their-madeline the author's grandson says that Miss Clavel is not a nun. She is a children's nurse - something like a nanny or governess. Her uniform is blue and is not a nun's habit. As the story is set in France, the school may be Catholic, but that does not mean Miss Clavel is necessarily a nun. If she were a nun, she would be called "Sister" or "Sister so and so". If she was a senior nun or head of a Convent school she might be a Mother Superior and referred to as "Mother" - but Miss Clavel looks a bit young for that title. 2A00:23C7:57A3:E201:D87C:45E0:AA42:D0C0 (talk) 23:45, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
