I'm trying to confirm some of these episode names and times, and not all of them seem to jive. I've removed "The Fossil Roadshow" from the specials because I can find no record of a Horizon episode with that name. 1986 Horizon film "Men"

Where can I find the 1986 Horizon film "Men"? Is it part of the series, or a spin-off?

I learned of this film from the series Fine Cut, 1995 episode The End of Innocence, which referred to the Horizon film as never having been broadcast, and having its negatives destroyed. Yet, they showed clips, so the product did exist somewhere. 24.57.239.43 (talk) 21:29, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Big bang machine 00x56 ?

Yes I agree, it looks like 00x56 is a mistake. Particularly with the similar title to 00x55 "Lost Horizons: The Big Bang". The OAD of 00x55 "Lost Horizons: The Big Bang" may be in doubt, but that episode definitely exists because BBC 4 repeated it on Mon 01 Aug 2011 and I watched it. Sex: A Horizon Guide

I noticed that the last episode to air, Sex: A Horizon Guide, is currently listed twice, once under Specials and once in the list of regular episodes. Does anyone know in which category this belongs (and why)? Metrowestjp (talk) 04:58, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

The scheduling is a pig's ear and it's a constantly moving target :( The BBC's own website has also changed in the past what they consider to be a "Special" (often broadcast only on BBC 4) and what is a "normal" episode (on BBC 2 in a regular timeslot with episodes on consecutive weeks). What we're calling Season 50 (because we can count) is what the BBC is calling "the 2013-2014 season". See http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mgxf/episodes/guide#b01rg025 , where they are even counting the "Defeating the Hackers" episode TWICE - "first broadcast" on "22 Oct 2013" AND "19 Aug 2013", indeed... . So their own site is unreliable. Now that page used to include "Sex: A Horizon Guide" but it doesn't any more. If we take the "there will be 6 episodes" at face value we might have to wait until the end of the season, whenever that it, to see if they change the total and/or reinstate "Sex: A Horizon Guide". No, it's correct. It just happened to have the word "Special" in the title. (Just one more problem created by the BBC for this series: normal episodes that look Special, as well as Special episodes that look normal). Series and specials

How are the series determined? For the most recent series there doesn't seem to be a clear season break and the latest series has been running for over a year now. Do we just take what the BBC's website happens to say at some point, or can this be deduced from production codes somehow? And if the former how is this done for the earlier series?

Also, wouldn't it help the organization of the article if the specials were rolled into the series they were part broadcast during and just marked as a Special instead of given an episode number? Possibly adding an addition column giving the channel where they were first broadcast on? (And the "episode numbers" currently given for the specials are fabricated, right? Based on the dodgy assumption that the list is both complete and accurate?) —Ruud 22:07, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

As near as I can tell, the episode numbers are just made up by whomever happens to be editing the page. They progress incrementally, but differ from what the BBC says. For example, today's episode is listed as 51x17, but is indicated as episode 18 on the BBC web page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06b9tnx

I would support your suggestion to roll the specials into the regular series, slotted in where their original broadcast dates would be. The 00x episode numbers are particularly bogus; it is a complete fabrication for this page.

Should a note be made about missing episodes?

Over on the BBC episode guide, there are (at least) two series with missing episodes (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mgxf/episodes/guide). For 2014-2015, episode 5 is missing and for 2012-2013 episode 18 is missing. There's a note: "There will be 18 (19) episodes. More information coming soon" -- but I suspect the "coming soon" bit for 2012-2013 is a bit generous. Likely these episodes were planned but for some reason never completed. A Horizon Guide

Should these be listed separately, under a new episode list rather than on the main list. Thee BBC keeps these separate (usually), under the BBC 2 programming website and the BBC Four website. A Horizon Guide is only a clip show compiled from original episodes and is only shown on BBC Four. All original Horizon episodes are shown on BBC 2, with selected episodes repeated on BBC Four.Xxtesy (talk) 21:17, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Horizon Specials

There is no definitive list. As an example The 2010 episode "The Death Of The Oceans" presented by David Attenborough, the continuity announcer advised it to be "A Horizon Special". This Wikipedia Horizon Guide List

Thanks for tidying this list up. Yes, I had noticed that there were program's included in the list not even broadcast by the BBC as well as some science TV programs by the BBC but not associated to Horizon. So there should be some deletions. "Lost Horizons: The Big Bang" as mentioned below is not a Horizon episode. It is just a science program produced for BBC Four that has the word "Horizon" in it. It was made for BBC Four and first broadcast as part of an evening's set of program's on CERN.Xxtesy (talk) 21:17, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

2014-2015 Season & Episode 5

Someone keeps changing the title to "How to live to 101". According to the linked source it is "How to Live to be 101". Unfortunately it seems to be an anonymous user. How can we avoid an edit war here? I've already undone their changes twice. Adamralph (talk) 18:29, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
