What place was he a national of?[edit]

Mehmet was born in the Ottoman Empire, so he was clearly a national of that place.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:57, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • When he was about 13 the general area he lived in was captured by Russian forces. the first capital of the Principality of Bulgaria was close to where he was born. It became a semi-autonomous state nominally under Ottoman control. Many of the non-Bulgarians in that area left at the time of the Russian occupation. It is possible that is when Mehmet moved to the area that would become Turkey in 1922, but we would need a source telling us that to know for sure.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:59, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I translated the first source. It has this even more confusing paragraph "In 1899 he went to Europe. Defeated famous wrestlers like Callmett, Pitejenski and Dumas. Defeated by Petrow. He added Indian Gulan, Hungarian Caya, Russian Baradonow and German Müller to his list of victories." Where he was born was in Europe by most definitions, so had he left "Europe", or are they using Europe in some more restricted way that does not include the areas known in the 19th-century as "Turkey in Europe"?John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:01, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
