Didn't fully create Rockman[edit]

At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Inafune revealed that he only partially designed Rockman and that his mentor had already made the basic design prior to Inafune's arrival at Capcom. Inafune admitted that he only created about half of Rockman's appearance, so his contribution to Rockman's origin is more like co-creator. Inafune also said that the first Rockman he designed from scratch was Zero.

He didn't work on EVERY RockMan game[edit]

Zero is not the original X[edit]

"...Keiji developed the characters X, and Zero, and as before, released yearly installments of the series, beginning with the first game, Rockman X.

Originally, Zero was meant to be the leading character of the X series, but Capcom executives convinced Inafune to continue with the analogous design from the original game. Ironically Zero became quite popular anyway, obtaining his own game series years later (Mega Man Zero)."

First of all, it's weird to say Inafune "developed" X when X was designed by another artist, Kaji.

Second, Zero was not meant to be the leading character, and this is purely based on mistranslation/misinterpretation in early interviews. The more recent Mega Man X Official Complete Works states that Zero was created on the basis that he was a side character, something Inafune already knew because he gave the main character design task to Kaji. What Inafune said was that he wanted Zero to be the main character in order to reflect a new, hardcore interpretation of the existing franchise. Obviously this was never meant to be because this would alienate fans. While there is "some" truth to what's already written, the way it's written gives off a vastly different connotation of how the creation actually went, as if Inafune REALLY pushed for Zero and Capcom shut him down. Conspicuous lack of information regarding his handling of the Mighty No. 9 debacle[edit]

Feel free to add anything you wish. Overall the article is very bare bones. I've only really put work on the Lede and not much else. Right now what we have is better than nothing, but it's not great.

The Comcept article is also lacking, as is the Inti-Creates article. Sources can be re-used from the Mighty Number 9 article that is pretty well developed.

This article is of rather poor quality. Much of it is unsourced and will need to be re-wreitten. There's enough sources, in both English and Japanese, to turn this into a FA quality article. Someone just has to do it. This article will not be my primary focus, so I will make additions here and there, but I don't want to do the bulk of the work. Error:[edit]

Inafune himself seems to have made an error, and it wasn't corrected by the interviewer. How should this be handled? Inafune says that his role on the next few MM games was to refine fan design submissions, and he thus wasn't able to make original designs. He says the next design he did was "Punk" for "Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge" in 1991. Problem: There is no character named Punk in that game, that character appears in the third game in the handheld series. So, Inafune is likely getting the names of characters he designed a long time ago mixed up. The interview is from 2007, so mixing up some names from a game from 1991, especially a more obscure title and character is understandable. Possibiltiies:

1. Inafune designed "Enker", a similar character in the first game and he is confusing their names. 2. Inafune designed Punk in III, and is getting the game name confused. Which means he didn't do any designs for 1-2.

How should we handle when the people themselves make the error? I'm thinking that we should cite Inafune, but be vague on the exact character name and game, saying instead he didn't make another original design until the Gameboy Mega Man games.

Adon?[edit]

Did Inafune design Adon for Street Fighter 1? This Eurogamer article mentions it, but it says "reportedly", and it just seems to be the author passing on what they've heard. Hardly solid. Inafune in the interview never mentions it. Harizotoh9 (talk) 12:44, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
