Game Engine

Does anyone know the name of the game engine (i.e., middleware) used in the development of GH3: Legends of Rock? Is it third-party or in-house? Aeonassoc 15:01, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

As far as I know, Neversoft developed it inhouse, and it does not share code heritage with GH2. LocalH 08:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Gamepro says that it uses the same engine as Tony Hawks Pro skater (at 1:45 of that video) --Ahjteam 20:48, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Pantera's Revolution is My Name

Wasn't it confirmed to be in the game by Marcus Henderson in an interview with guitar world?

Perhaps you can find the interview? Y2kcrazyjoker4 12:31, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
http://www.guitarworld.com/article/guitar_heros_marcus_henderson_the_guitar_world_interview?page=0%2C0 I couldn't find him saying it in text form, but he refers to it specifically as a Guitar Hero track in the video interview, under "How do you figure out how to play all the songs?" Fascismo 19:47, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Marcus said on the Guitar Hero forums that he recorded it for something else. He said he has projects other than Guitar Hero and not everything he records will be in the game
To me, it sounded like Marcus accidentally slipped it and tried to cover it up. Here is a transcription of the monologue from the video: "I transcribe all the music myself, except in the case of recent Pantera song. I had a Pantera track, I had to do 'Revolution is my name' like two weeks ago. I walk into a music store in Bay Area, there is a Dimebag signature model on the wall. I bought it *something*, yeah I'm grabbing it, I'm taking it. I turned around to pay for the guitar and there is 'Guitar World'. With a transcription 'Revolution is my name'. I'm like OK, lets take this too. So we bought that and we literally sat in the studio and watched Dimes version that you put on there. For reference, any hand or any tips we could get out of it and used your transcription and CD-rom to guide us through on a GUITAR HERO TRACK. That was really awesome, thank you guys" --Ahjteam 20:55, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

On that Pantera song...

I see that someone is trying to cite it with this link to the GH3 forums. First off, forum posts are not valid citations, but in that forum post, the user has 5 linked articles that indicate the song list sources, the latest being the announcement of the Stone Roses. But even with that one, and looking through the other five, there is NO indication of a Pantera song being added.

I'm not saying that this might not be the case, but that forum post CANNOT be used for validation of the song. In fact, if you follow to the end of that thread (the latest posts in chrono order), the users state that Pantera shouldn't be on the list because there is no confirmation. Thus, unless you can get a non-forum, non-Myspace post about Pantera, please do not add it. --Masem 05:36, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Just want to add to this that Marcus Henderson's comments on this song doesn't count as a source, either. There is no indication that this song is being converted for use in GHIII's track list; it could have been a song for a different edition of GH that was cut from the track list, or it might not be related to his GH work at all. Until we get confirmation from someone saying "this song WILL be in GHIII", leave it out please. Daggoth | Talk 06:19, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
I am the author of that guitarhero forum thread, as well as the Henderson transcription few paragraphs above. I moved it a little closes so it is easier to spot what I mean --Ahjteam 08:16, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Senses Fail

On August 9th, New Jersey Rockers Senses Fail released a bulletin on Mypsace saying "Lastly our music will be featured in a bunch of video games this fall. One being a race car game Burnout 5 (not sure if it's out already) and 2 other awesome games that will be for people who are fans of playing guitar and dancing (hint, hint)." maybe in reference to either Guitar Hero III or Rock Band?

I think that it will be rock band, because a couple months ago they posted a bulletin telling all of their fans to go to rockband.com and submit their songs.

If you look at http://www.neversoft.com/ the middle picture is a rather accurate likeness of the deceased cowboy himself. If it's not Revolution, It's something else... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.41.241.149 (talk) 02:35, August 22, 2007 (UTC)

YOU LIE BECAUSE YOU LIE! Toasty! | Available at your local store 22:33, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Yea actually, GI said that Jack lack could be a boss because his song The Metal is in the game. They also mentioned several other guitarists too and I don't think you mentioned any of their names as potential cantidates... Trowa440 03:09, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Actually it isn't Jack Black, it was confirmed to be an "fictional" guitarist. Since Slash from Guns-N-Roses and Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine are the two actual bosses from real life, it leaves it to the fact that the third boss isn't Jack Black. I do wonder what the third boss' name is going to be and what they are going to look like. - WaterPoloBoy 19:34, 16 August 2007

I wanted to mention that Bret Michaels is probably just a guest star on the game and not an actual boss, because he appears to be singing and not playing the guitar in those screen shots. So, we'll just have to wait and see. MB 21:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

That's been stated before. There is still one real guitarist and a fictional one left to be announced. DJKingpin 10:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

This is just rumor mongering, but what I have heard is that Skwisgaar Skwigelf from Metalocalypse MIGHT be the fictional boss. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.165.57.35 (talk) 01:51, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

THE DOORS-ROADHOUSE BLUES

I herd from forum.guitarherogame.com that The Doors-Roadhouse Blues is going to be on the game. Someone add this its on LVL 8 on the song list.

Picture of Dimebag Darrell

Please explain the context of where this picture is on the Neversoft website. Note the URL is from an image hosting service, so it's not hosted on Neversoft's website (and it's not like Neversoft doesn't have enough bandwidth to host it). It tells me that this picture is a picture from the GHIII forums, which are likely not reliable and thus this is speculation.

If you provide us with better context, we'll be able to determine if this is a valid point to include. --Masem 02:08, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

http://www.neversoft.com - Self-explanatory.Noidburger 12:53, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I looked there - I don't see where that image is used (the GHIII button doesn't go anywhere it seems since it's not out yet). If there's somewhere deeper in the neversoft site, please either provide a URL or how to get to that deeper location (if it's flash based). --Masem 12:57, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
And please explain what the hell the significance of this photo is in the first place!! Y2kcrazyjoker4 13:13, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't get what this image has to do with Dimebag Darrell. It's a picture of two people talking in front of a bunch of glass jars. [1] --Ouzo 15:05, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I feel you aren't seeing what I'm seeing. Under the picture of Johnny there's a banner. One part of the banner says "Guitar Hero 3" and on that banner looks like what could be either Dimebag Darrel or Axel Steel. I don't see that jar picture there anywhere.Noidburger 15:44, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Until you can provide proof that that's supposed to represent Dimebag Darrel, it can't be included in the article. -- MisterHand (Talk to the Hand|Contribs) 15:56, 8 August 2007

(UTC)

I don't think that that jar picture is anywhere on Neversoft's website.Noidburger 13:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm not saying that it definately is Dimebag. You asked for a picture and I gave it to you. But if we can't prove it's Dimebag, we can't rule it out. So it should just be avoided whether or not it's a costume or a character. Noidburger 15:50, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Here's the confusion. This is what Rambone put on the page:
A picture on the Neversoft website indicates that deceased Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell may be one of the bosses.
Now, the linked picture on imagevenue.com shows two people starring at jars. Based on what Rambone said in the edit comments, this picture is on Neversoft's website, but he took it and hosted on imagevenue.com, which unfortunately takes it out of context. Now, there's two links I'm missing:
  1. Where is this picture (the one on imagevenue) located on the Neversoft website, as per Rambone's addition?
  2. What does that picture have to do with Dimebag Darrell? I understand how he died, and the hosted picture would seem to be pictures of the bullet evidence, but that's not really a useful picture.
Even trying to compare the picture where it says "Guitar Hero 3: Coming Soon" on the website to the pictures of Darrell (such as on WP) suggests they're similar, but as the Darrell article points out, one of Axel Steel's in-game outfits is based on Darrell's outfit, and thus its impossible to infer this means that Darrell is within the game just from one picture on Neversoft's website, and the hosted picture does nothing to support it, at least out of context from the neversoft website.
(Also, my gut tells me that even Neversoft would not even try to use the direct image of a dead guitarist without having full legal support from family and friends. Getting Slash is one thing, this is very much another.) --Masem 19:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't think that's anywhere on the site.Noidburger 13:14, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

the picture is just a picture of axle steel's alternatave outfit which was made to resemble darrel.Trenton194 18:24, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

This has been added again.

As stated above, we're not sure it's him (it could be Axel Steel). We're not sure he's going to be in the game (a screenshot can mean anything). Without a source, we cannot add it. Find an official source stating he'll be in it (a developer comment would be best) and reference it. Without that, it's not true. To avoid 3RR, you can feel free to add it here, and a user who hasn't made three reverts this 24 hours can add the sourced information. =David(talk)(contribs) 03:27, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

New announcements

A couple of new songs were announced, some of which I already said were announced but I didn't hear it in real life: Bold Means it's a Master Track. Regular text means it's a cover version

  • Ain't Talkin' Bout Love by Van Halen
  • Straight to Video by Mindless Self Indulgence (I'm guessing it will take Freezepop's place as the half-rock/half-techno song of the game)
  • Dumpweed by Blink 182
  • The King of Rock & Roll by Daniel Lioneye (A bonus song)
  • Washington is Next by Megadeth
  • Nitro by Dick Dale
  • Unknown Dethklok Song* by Dethklok (The developers are arguing over which song should be in)
  • Red Carpet Grave by Marilyn Manson (Actually fun as hell to play!)

Upon hearing question's about DragonForce's tier, it was announced that TTF&F will be a bonus track unlocked when you beat the final encore, and is optional to play. And someone asked "What song is the final encore?". The developer said "I've been asked this many times, and I'll answer it many times: It's not that one song everyone's thinking of.".

They also gave a lot of attention to characters. They're re-modeling "most of the characters, so they fit that little rock stereotype even better than before...". They showed concept art of the new Axel (In which he has longer hair, a green-ish shirt with the sleeves ripped off, and the same pants/shoes.

Some more info..... . Lou's Inferno is a Dethklok-themed venue, modeled after the place where the Duncan Hills Coffee video takes place in. . The game will have Cutscenes (as well as Voice acting in the cutscenes) . Neversoft will release some Rocks the 80's songs as DLC . Neversoft said "We finally got the rights to the Metallica song we wanted, and from the start we knew what we wanted to do with that song". My guess is Master of Puppets being the second-to-last or final encore. . Characters will have more unique and exaggerated animations, like stave diving, hopping up on amplifiers, playing back-to-back with the Bass Player, etc. . The game is "Almost 70% done, so if we really haul ass with this project, we could even see an Early September release. . As you progress in the game, your band will get better instruments. Pretty Awesome info someone should add it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ausitn1257 (talkcontribs)

I'm pretty sure that was false information posted by somebody on the forums with a reputation. Noidburger 17:33, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

"Master of Puppets"? That's not even in the current setlist nor the one you provided. Metallica's "One" is most likely the song they were refering to. The series has never featured an artist multiple times in the same game because there are so many other worthy artists the should be included. Neversoft might switch things up, but I think one song per game is enough, and it saves the song for the next installment. Until we get a verifiable link, none of those songs will be put on the setlist. Moviemaniacx 18:37, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, there haven't been any under the same artist, but some of the same people have made songs. "Bark at The Moon" and "Iron Man" both had Ozzy, but it isn't under Ozzy's name, so it doesn't really matter. Just wanted to point that out. Noidburger 18:48, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but it's still unlikely that the game will feature two Metallica songs when they can just use "Master of Puppets" as a selling point in the next game. If "Master of Puppets" was on Guitar Hero IV and it didn't feature any other good songs, people would still buy it. Ozzy may have been in two of the bands featured on the first Guitar Hero, but Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath are two different artists and credited as such. Moviemaniacx 19:16, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Senses Fail has updated their latest blog with the following info..."Lastly our music will be featured in a bunch of video games this fall. One being a race car game Burnout 5 (not sure if it's out already) and 2 other awesome games that will be for people who are fans of playing guitar and dancing (hint, hint)."

It's already been stated that Internet blogs, YouTube videos and Myspace websites are not verifiable sources. It has happened with two other bands -- Matchbook Romance and Deathklok (above) -- whose blogs and myspace websites stated their songs were going to be in Guitar Hero III with no proof from Neversoft.
In order for a song to be included on the setlist, we need a direct, verifiable link to the information with direct confirmation from Neversoft. Moviemaniacx 19:27, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

christ people, why don't you create a rumored song section or something so these goddamn faggots will stop putting songs on the confirmed list.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.189.24.138 (talk)

Well, ignoring the fact that you didn't sign your comment and that you're pretty blatantly violationg WP:NPA here, there's the little matter that the few people who are adding things that aren't just blatantly throwing random stuff out there think these ARE confirmed, not merely rumored. Likewise, the people who're throwing songs they want up there aren't gonna put them in a "rumored" songs section. Rdfox 76 03:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

have it your way, i'm going to laugh pretty hard when all the songs you've been removing are actually on the game.

What are you saying? You're going to laugh at us because we didn't give in to speculation, rumors and excitement drumming? These aren't the tabloids and we're not going to put in unverifiable information. Sorry. --Ouzo 16:33, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

IGN UK songs were a fake

It turns out they were just posted on the message board over there by a guy with a history of posting false information. Sorry if I got anybody riled up about the songs that were gonna be on there

Viking Character?

Is it just me, or is that "viking" remarkably similar to Lars Ümlaüt? I'm willing to bet it's just an alternate outfit. What should we do about its add to the cast section? Cotton 20:28, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Speculation, even with me 99% sure it's Lars. Keep it off until we have more information. --Masem 21:00, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

They turned him into satan O:<

So the devil is officially is in the game?

According to Slash...yes

  • They've already got him, now that it's been announced that Bret Michaels is appearing :b --24.59.155.203 11:49, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

But according to the guys at Score Hero, Grim Ripper is still in the game. So they can't have changed him into Satan unless it was a last minute thing.

\ It might just be a alternate costume for the grim ripper or something.

Or the devil could be a reference to Angus Young. 71.229.47.238 23:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Bret Michaels???

"Go That Far" – Bret Michaels Band[23] Since when was this announced???

This song was announced in the USA TODAY page. Here's the link http://blogs.usatoday.com/entertainment/2007/08/guitar-hero-iii.html

  • The USA Article also says "Talk Dirty To Me" is in there (doesn't say if it's a master; could be a re-recording?). Why isn't it in the song list? Skrutop 12:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Then why isn't it in the list of songs? It was yesterday, and someone took it out now. If there is an announced song, it should be in the article.--ZacLOL 14:40, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok, never mind that. Someone had done some editing on the page, and taken the song off, it's back now.--ZacLOL 14:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Scorehero nor bret michaels myspace, fansite, or official website states that he will be in guitar hero 3.In order for a song to be included on the setlist, we need a direct, verifiable link to the information with direct confirmation from Neversoft.

Bret Michaels not gonna be a boss. Just a real singer band(will appear singing in the Poison and the Bret Michaels' band songs)

Brett Michaels

Talk to me dirty is a master track, I believe when they said as made famous by in the article, they didnt catch that that means a cover in guitar hero talk. If Brett michaels sings the song that it cant be a cover. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Acdc212 (talkcontribs) 20:57:35, August 19, 2007 (UTC).

Sure it can. First, there's the people suggesting that it's a digital Bret Michaels singing the song when you play it instead of the usual lead singer. Even if it's not that, there's nothing that says they couldn't have paid Michaels a healthy chunk of change to sing the song with their cover artists while they recorded it. Rdfox 76 21:57, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
It is not the original version as stated in the press release (see the article page, one and a half paragraphs before the setlist), but it is most likely sung by Bret Michaels.

--Ahjteam 22:02, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Whats the deal with this picture? [2]It shows both angus young and rob halford

AC/DC? Judas Priest?

A Promo poster on Axel Steels Myspace shows Angus Young and Rob Halford on it. Angus might be the other boss they said people would know the boss. Maybe Rob Halford another singer.

Can anyone tell me if this is true? I see the Promo poster too and i'm curious if this is true or not.

  • Note that Pandora is also depicted on the poster, but it has been announced that she will not make an appearance in the game. It may have been an early prototype poster, judging by the "Now Hiring" phrase on the bottom... --24.59.155.203 11:53, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Black Magic Woman & When You Were Young

Master track or cover, when was that confirmed? -moggie_mn

I'm not sure if it's confirmed yet... there have been rumors of it being on the back of the box (like what happened with some of the GH:80's tracks), but I haven't seen enough evidence of it... so for know, I think it's just a rumored song until we get proof. Arch wooohh 09:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

The person who added it included a reflink to a photo of the back of the preorder box that's on store shelves now, and the resolution is good enough to make out those titles. While it doesn't tell us if it's a master track or not, it DOES confirm that those two are in the game. (The difference from what happened with 80s Edition, BTW, is that this is the box that's on store shelves for preorders, not a box taken off the pallet to photograph before the street date, and is thus verifiable by going down to the local GameStop and looking at the box.) Rdfox 76 11:45, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

International Tracklist

Should we separate the international songs from the American songs on the article's track listing? From what I've been reading, European countries are going to have their own special versions with different localized songs. Sunshine of Your Love

Alright. So are we keeping it or what. Currently there is proof that it is in the game according to that guy from Scorehero. Someone said this was false but they had no proof. So all I ask is that there's some proof it's not in the game. Although I wont edit it back in yet.

- Rossoffle

You're making one major mistake. Until there's a verifiable source that says the song is IN the game, it doesn't matter if there's proof there's not. The song can't be claimed unless there's proof it IS there; the guy from Scorehero apparently isn't a reliable source under Wiki guidelines. Find other evidence that it's there that doesn't stem from that one post, and then it'll be acceptable. Rdfox 76 17:02, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Where is the confirmation that the international songs are bonus tracks? Just wondering because the links and citations didn't provide the proof.--24.59.155.203 11:35, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

They would likely be, but you're right, we have no verifiable proof. --Masem 12:49, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the Scorehero folks said TTF&F was a bonus, and that someone, somewhere, in some official capacity, confirmed that the 11 international songs recently announced were bonuses too. But the problem I have with the separation in the article is that it is then effectively saying that the other songs aren't bonuses, which is OR. Daggoth | Talk 13:18, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Sources

Can't we start taking the sources off some of the older songs? I think people get the idea of what's on the game and what's vandalism. Just a thought to clean up the page a little bit. Moggie mn 20:39, 28 August 2007 (UTC)moggie_mn

  • I think that there needs to be a full list first. If citations start getting removed now, it makes it easier for vandals to add rumored songs without us noticing. Just my opinion though... Also, someone needs to get the Matchbook Romance song off again, it was added with a blank citation....--24.59.155.203 14:24, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Got the MR song off already. But I don't think we should be removing references until we actually get a full song list, the anon above has it right - its necessary to make sure people aren't adding their wishlist songs before the real list is out. --Masem 14:26, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

The Matchbook Romance song IS a track in the game, it is on the bands MySpace blog. Dragonscales 14:31, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

  • I think it was the general concensus that Myspace pages are not definite sources. I have a page on Myspace, so I could, in theory, write a blog listing a song I made up with some other semi-confirmed and confirmed tracks quite easily...--24.59.155.203 14:48, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Exactly. Since myspace pages are written by the bands themselves, they can admit to anything without any confirmation. Myspace pages, in this case, fail WP:V. I don't doubt MR likely has a song in GHIII but we've not gotten official confirmation as all the other songs have been given. --Masem 15:07, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
This is the only other thing I can find on it (though it cites the myspace blog itself): [4]. --Temporarily Insane (talk) 19:58, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately, it also cites wikipedia, so it's as unverifiable as any one of us. The song is up there unsourced again; you can add the citation, but don't expect the veteran users to keep it.--24.59.155.203 20:30, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Adding a new section (cheat system, HOPO's, and hyperspeed)

Does anyone else think this information may be good for the main article?...http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25154 Moggie mn

Sounds reliable enough, but I don't think "a guy on scorehero" is a good enough source for the entry. We can just wait for the game, or a reputable source to tell us themselvesMrnuzzlespleen 01:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC) mrnuzzlespleen

It's actually very reliable given the circumstances. Wikipedia guidelines still forbid it basically. Just wait for the official announcement. The announced songs that were exclusive to ScoreHero before were formally announced in IGN within days. DJKingpin 06:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Then under that guideline I deleted the mention of Tom Morello's original compositions, sourced to the same topic on Scorhero. Mrnuzzlespleen 16:08, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

The new way that HOPO's work isn't newly announced in that thread, it was originally stated in the very first post of http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19183. "One of the biggest gameplay changes was with the system for hammer-ons and pull-offs. Rather than being based solely on the timing of the notes, Neversoft is able to program certain notes to be strummed or hammer-ons. The general guideline is, if a note is strummed on a real guitar, it will probably have to be strummed in-game. When a note is a hammer on for a real guitar, you'll probably be able to do a hammer-on for it in-game. This provides a much more realistic feeling to the charts." Black Magic Woman and other songs

In the main article, (the list of the songs) Black Magic Woman is listed as "Unknown Artist". This song is from Fleetwood Mac.

Also, I have a little question: Is that the definitive song list? I mean, there's no option to see more songs in the game? I have been dreaming with "Better Day", from Dover (Album "It's good to be me"), since I bought GH II for my 360 the same day it came out.

There's two key versions of BMW: the FMac version and the Santana cover. These are, for practical purposes, two different songs (and my gut is that Santana's more the name I'd associate with "Guitar" hero than FMac, but that's not reliable). As the source is the back cover of the pre-order box, but it doesn't state either FMac or Santana as the article, we have to stick with "Unknown" at this point.
Also, there's supposed to be about 70 songs, we've only got 40 some there, so there's still more unknown at this time. --Masem 16:51, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

The Atreyu song should be removed...the banner being used as a source simply states the band are in the game, it does not specify which song will be used. At the same time it mentions "Becoming the Bull" will be in madden 2008 specifically, so the lack f details could well mean a different song is being used in GH3.Softwing 15:36, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Song Arrangement

I check both this page and Rock Band everyday to see if any new songs that have been confirmed. Personally, I find the alphabetical arrangement arrangement irritating as it makes it hard to find out which songs are new and which are old unless an aricle reveals a whole bunch at once. It literally took me five minutes to figure out "Helicopters" (I think that was the one) was the last song added. Any way the could be organized by date confirmed? Or just have dates next to them? It's nothing huge, it would just make it easier to quickly determine which songs are new for those that don't have the whole list committed to memory. General Aranel 14:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Censorship

Was there any news that they were going to be censoring the lyrics for some of the songs? Or will it be kept in the game? MB 03:48, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Will be sensored... but master tracks are used. Example "F*ck you I wont do what you tell me" from RATM's Killing in the Name of was cut out. Or Lamb of God when it goes, "See who gives a f*ck", that was sensored. Same will go for this game. This is to maintain it's T rating. I wouldn't worry too much about it, for the most part these songs dont have too much profanities, and if there is a word here or there, it will be subtly cut out so that you wont notice. I would prefer for them to just make an M game and go all out, but that would restrict a huge portion of their audience. Jovack 04:26, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

No, but see, they did covers of those songs. So they automatically cut them out when they did the cover. Since most of the tracks are Masters, and quite a few of them have profanity, you think they would take it out? The soundtrack for other Neversoft games have had songs that had some cussing in them too, but they still had a T rating.MB 04:31, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
It's really all up to the ESRB, and we can't put it into the article until they release their rating. =David(talk)(contribs) 04:32, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
It's rated "Teen". They'll sensor. Having the master tracks makes it much easier to do so. --Masem 04:34, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

With the master track it becomes easier to sensor because they can just mute the vocals for the split second and with the rest of the band still playing, you'll hardly notice unless you're singing along. Jovack 13:30, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

I wish they'd just allow the lyrics based on the parental controls of the console. KyuzoGator 13:36, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

bands for real people in lead

Ok, in rewriting the lead, I added the mention of the real people that will be in the game and added the bands that they are presently in and are currently represented in the game, only to give a clear idea to someone not familar with their music to know what bands they're involved with and why they're connected to GHIII. Tom M's RATM is there, but Audioslave is not a represented band; Slash's Velvet Revolver is yet confirmed to get a track while there is a GNR track. It's not to single out one band of these, but to note the band and context to the game that the person is from. --Masem 05:54, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Velvet Revolver's "She Builds Quick Machines" has been confirmed a long time ago. It's on the list. 83.162.24.15 11:41, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Black Magic Woman is the Santana version

Black Magic Woman is by Carlos Santana —Preceding unsigned comment added by CRanga (talkcontribs) 22:10, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Post a source and I will believe you. As much as people want it to be his version, Fleetwood Mac did do their version first. DJKingpin 23:20, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

External Links

Hi...Is there anyway we can add an external link in this article to the Guitar Hero Wikia? Although it is somewhat in its infancy, I think a link on the Guitar Hero pages here on Wikipedia would help direct badly needed help/traffic to the site, and help it become a bigger repository of info on Guitar Hero. My user name there is LordNyax113. I'm pretty much the only active user there. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.8.229.201 (talk) 01:09, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

This is a conflict of interest. --Masem 01:17, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

My apologies. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.8.229.201 (talk) 01:24, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Black Magic Woman

hello, uh, the song "Black Magic Woman" that says 'artist unknown"? that is definitely a song by the band (or really, by the man) Santana. YOU ALL (not yall, never, ever, say yall please) can change that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.145.170.186 (talk) 17:58, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

We've been through this 100 times. We don't know if its the Santana version or the Fleetwood Mac version because the source is the back of the box which says "Black Magic Woman" and doesn't say an artist Razorblade666 18:03, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Guitar-hero-3-gameplay.jpg

Image:Guitar-hero-3-gameplay.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

FYI to other editors, I've taken care of this (need to have the article name where the image is being used in the image's FUR). --Masem 05:32, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Bonus band Q's and Setlist suggestion

I have noticed that there are no songs in the setlist by previous bonus track artists. By this I mean where are Freezepop, Dethklok, Drist, Graveyard BBQ, Buckethead, and all the others? I know that the song list is incomplete, so there's nothing serious here. Were the other bonus bands included in the game because of Harmonix? For example, 'Guitar Hero' says when you choose 'Get Ready 2 Rokk', "Fans of previous Harmonix games will recognize synth-pop masters Freezepop. Bet you didn't expect them in this game!" So, were the past bonus track bands included in 'Guitar Hero' and 'Guitar Hero II' because they were in previous Harmonix games (with the exception of The Last Vegas and Graveyard BBQ; they won the Guitar Hero Contest)? Or were they just chosen randomly from a selection of bands? So, if they are not included in GHIII, I and many other people salute thee, we will truly miss you! Also, I check the pages pretty much every day, and I know that you said this page is not up-to-date information...

Could I also suggest a song list re-organization? Could we maybe keep the current song list arrangement, but then create another one organized by date below that? This would make it SOOO much easier for millions of people to tell when a new song is added! Or, we could just put the date next to the song name, with the most recent date in bold print or italic print or something like that. Thanks!

PS- I can't figure out the signature thing, so please don't virtually yell at me or anything like that. But I'll try to sign here and see what happens!! 216.138.61.58 15:00, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Freezepop is likely the only band to directly be picked for the game, given the connection between HMX and Freezepop. Why other bands were included or not is anyone's guess Note they're all small-time bands so likely it may have been people with connections.
As for the list in date order, I fully expect, given the message above with the leaked track list that we'll be getting a full track list in a week or so. This will make the date order meaningless. --Masem 15:07, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

This is not the place to ask why your favourite bands are not included in the game. This is a completely new game by completely new developers, so there will definitely be big changes. Dethklok is a cartoon and was included for the novelty of it (like Trogdor). Those other bands are not "major successful" band thus the bonus tracks have many new bands in them (as well as some bigger bands). There are many repeat bands because they are more famous and more popular with the general audience. Freezepop has three members in it, one of which work for Harmonix as a game developer.... he obviously will never allow rival Neversoft to access his music since he will be putting it in Rock Band. Organization is pointless at this time as the list is not completed yet... when Neversoft confirms the leaked list, it will be substituted in. Jovack 16:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Quite a few bands in the Harmonix games have members in them that are also employees at HMX, like The Acro-Brats, Count Zero and other bands that appear in both bonustrack lists of GHI and GHII. I believe Michael Henderson of Drist did the guitar tracks of twenty songs in Guitar Hero, and even provided the vocals for Bark At The Moon. Since Neversoft doesn't seem to have any members that are in bands, I'm quite sure they'll look for other bands to go in their bonustrack list, and incidentally, they turn out to be pretty popular artists. 83.162.24.15 17:03, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
