Can't "wuss out" except on easy mode

After a tier is complete, a new tier is introduced. New in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock are career mode boss battles; at three points during the career mode, the player is required to compete against a boss character: Tom Morello, Slash, and Lou the Devil, in order to progress; however, after three attempts, the player is given the option to skip the battle if they so choose[citation needed]

On the ps2 version, I noticed you can't "wuss out" after 3 tries on medium, or maybe I just blocked it from my mind.

I also don't think you can wuss out versus Lou (the end boss) on easy mode.

Vuelhering (talk) 06:05, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I know for a fact that I "wussed out" against Slash on Expert on the 360 version, though I think it took more than 3 tries. Oren0 (talk) 19:09, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
I wussed out on him too on expert, but I think you just have to fail without him using any powerups on you, but i dont know. Oh, and I did finally beat him, he's not that hard! frogTape: Covered in flies for your enjoyment (talk) 04:59, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I believe it is possible to give-up on the ps2 version. it may take more then 3 tries if you do well (Not failing until around the end). But it is impossible (on any version) to give-up on Lou. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.99.80.106 (talk) 01:19, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey now, this ain't a forum, remember post suggestions to make the article better, remember this is not a forum. NimiTize 05:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Take it easy. The section was started because someone believed that a statement in the article was inaccurate, and we were just trying to determine whether that was true or not. Oren0 (talk) 05:31, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
You can "wuss out" on any mode, but ONLY after failing the boss battle 3 times in a row. I know this as I watched a friend of mine fail to beat Tom Morello on Medium 3 times in a row. He choose to "wuss out" and continued on to play the encore song, Bulls on Parade, with Tom Morello. What I don't know is if there are any reliable and verifiable sources that mention this. Aerosmith

Just now, I found out for XBOX 360 that they are offering a free download of Dream On by Aerosmith for Guitar Hero 3 until tomorrow (Monday the 18th). They mentioned something about a Guitar Hero Aerosmith game.... 67.68.36.252 (talk) 21:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Problems in the Guitar Center for WII

Sometimes when I go into the Guitar Center on Guitar Hero III for WII, and it just starts scrolling like crazy, and the only way to stop it is to take the wii remote out of the guitar. Anyone know of this issue?170.252.248.203 (talk) 22:37, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Ben

If when you turn on the controller and the anolog stick is up or down (not sure if its the same with strum bar, it will cause the scroller up and down. also if your wammy bar is down when you turn on the controller or conect the wii mote- it wiill Not work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.248.85.60 (talk) 15:35, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

No, the strum bar is not affected by this. frogTape: Covered in flies for your enjoyment (talk) 02:15, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Guitar Controllers

There is no mention at all in this article about the guitar controllers. Should there be? —Preceding unsigned comment added by PnJunkie (talkcontribs) 18:25, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

The word "controller" appears 18 times in the article, not including footnotes, and once more in the external links section. The article talks about the wireless controller, the controller being shaped like a Les Paul, compatibility with previous controllers, the removable neck, and so on. Am I misunderstanding your question? Travisl (talk) 18:47, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

verbage

I'm concerned about the into section's assertion that guitar hero "simulates" playing guitar by hitting "notes". This is not accurate- a simulation is a realistic representation e.g. flight simulator simulates flying, as it attempts to accurately recreate mechanics of flying an aircraft. Guitar hero does not simulate playing guitar, it is essentially a guitar shaped simon-says game. "Notes" and the wikilink to music notes is also inaccurate. The player doesn't hit notes at all, each button triggers the game to play or not play whatever note happens to be in the song at that moment, the player doesn't control what note it is. - superβεεcat  00:24, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

It sounds to me that you're taking "simulate" too seriously. It fits. 134.68.177.233 (talk) 19:09, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

In-Game Advertising

I've seen a few references to movies while playing guitar hero III. For example, i saw the "Golden Compass" logo/movie poster while playing slow ride; i do not, however, remember what venue i was playing on. More recently, i saw the logo/movie poster for "Drillbit Taylor". I think it would be cool if more research was done on the appearances of such advertising, and a section be created in the main wikipedia article.

World Record

Chike has since retaken his record over Johnson, as can be seen here on the scorehero.com leaderboards on Chike's username "iamchris4life":

http://www.scorehero.com/rankings.php?group=4&game=6&diff=4&song=2520&page=1

Considering that others have beaten Johnson (who, if I'm not mistaken, is on the same leaderboards under the name "PhenomMan"), but no one is close to reaching the record that Chike recently re-set (and has a video and about 400 witnesses via ustream.com), should it be written in that he actually does still have the record, only with a higher score then is in Guiness?--Rohrk21 (talk) 00:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

As I understand it, Johnson still had the official Guiness record (which I believe requires an official witness to verify the score). So ScoreHero wouldn't be the official word on who holds the Guiness world record. However, there was a post today on Kotaku indicating the Chike had an official video of his retaking of the record. In the opening paragraph it mentions that most songs are "master tracks" but it doesn't explain what a master track is. So....what is it?--KyPaintBawler (talk) 21:43, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Wii controller

I'm really sorry to come here to ask, although technically I'm just saying that this would be useful information to have on the page, but I really need to know if the Wii version will let you play with the "classic controller" attachment, similarly to how the other console versions allow you to use their normal controllers.

Well, I'm not sure about that, but I know you can't play virtual console games with it. Mario died in about 1 minute.. Anyway, you can use the Wiimote in the guitar to play on VC. That's all I know, but I'll probably get yelled at for not saying this really isn't the place to discus this. Maybe... frogTape (talk) 03:46, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
I do not think the original poster was asking anything about the Wii Virtual Console. I cannot address the original question, specifically, because I do not know whether the Classic Controller will work. However, the Wii Remote can be used without the guitar peripheral to play the game. The button-to-note-color mappings are detailed in the instruction manual. Mac OS?

Did a game that came out in 2007 really support Mac OS? I think Category:Mac OS games is an error. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 00:09, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

"...all versions of the game would feature wireless controllers as well as online multiplayer and downloadable content."

This statement isn't exactly true...the PS2 & Wii console versions have no DLC whatsoever. The PS2 version has no online capability whatsoever, despite there being an ethernet jack in the console. Does anyone know why this is? --2dFx (talk) 01:33, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

No idea, but it pisses me off. The wireless add on for the original PS2 cost a fair bit, too much for it to go so neglected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.130.33.70 (talk) 13:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

the PC version also lacks DLC and the online scoreboards don't include PC scores. 66.38.75.179 (talk) 21:37, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Co-op quickplay vs. Co-op career

"Instead, Co-Op mode is only available in "Co-Op Career" Mode, which uses a different setlist from the main career and therefore does not provide Co-Op multiplayer for the entire soundtrack."

This is incorrect, as all songs are available in the existing co-op "career" mode. However, you must "beat" co-op career before accessing any of them, and then also "unlock" the extra songs in the single-player portion of your selected difficulty. Beating both single-player and co-op on the same difficulty (not easy) unlocks everything in both modes.

"Quickplay" just makes co-op a lot more convenient, as changing difficulties (in a party setting, for instance) is a hassle with the co-op career mode.

Edit from past tense to present tense

"The online play feature will extend to the Wii version, as announced by Nintendo at the 2007 E3 conference".

This should be changed to "The online play feature extends to the Wii version, as announced by Nintendo at the 2007 E3 conference, or something along those lines, which will make it future tense. This must be changed by an autoconfirmed user or higher, as the page is semi-protected from vandalism.

Battle Mode Error

This is just a minor thing, but it says "The mode puts a twist on the Pro Face-off mode introduced in Guitar Hero II" in the battle mode setion. Since players can choose different difficulties, shouldn't it say it is a twist on the Face-off mode? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.188.216.83 (talk) 15:34, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, its a combination of both. A twist on the Face-Off mode due to the ability for each player to select their own difficulty setting while also being a twist on the Pro Face-Off mode as both players play the same section of the song at the same time. I'd suggest that the text be re-worded to "The mode puts a twist on the Pro Face-off mode introduced in Guitar Hero II, however, both players are able to select their own difficulty setting" or something of the like. Japanese sales data error

"the game has sold 3.037 million units in the United States, 412,000 in the United Kingdom, and 26,000 million in Japan, respectively, for a total of 3.475 million units" (emphasis added)

The Japanese figure is off by six orders of magnitude thanks to the inclusion of the word "million." Merely imagining the idea that 26 billion copies were sold in Japan and the resultant 200 copies per resident is pretty amusing, though. Imolee (talk) 18:22, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
