hMail?

hMailServer is a GPL MTA for Windows. I can't find neither an Article for it nor an entry in this list. I'll add an Article in a few days Subbu (talk) 07:30, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Edit: Sorry, Found the article :-/ -Subbu (talk) 09:20, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Dovecot?

Dovecot (http://www.dovecot.org/) is a good IMAP/POP3 server that should probably be added to the comparison. There is a very basic page covering it already http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dovecot_%28software%29. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.165.163.222 (talk) 18:09, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

bincIMAP?

Seems to just be an IMAP server, like Dovecot. No smTP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.61.38.222 (talk) 03:55, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Sendmail on Windows

Just checked http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:unofficial&hs=TQk&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=sendmail+on+windows&spell=1 and there are several versions of sendmail available for windows. Jjk (talk) 13:54, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Sendmail is NOT on Windows. It used to be, but now the project is known as IndigoMail and is propriety software. 82.23.60.119 (talk) 15:32, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Purge redlinks and extlinks?

The general rule of thumb for list and comparison articles is that only items which are notable enough to have their own articles should be listed/compared. Accordingly, I propose to purge all the redlinked and extlinked items from the page. Please give your views on this.

  • Does anybody object to purging the list in principle?
  • Does anybody think that any of the specific redlinked/extlinked items should be kept as they are notable enough to deserve an article? If so, can they make a stub for the item(s)?
  • Does anybody know of any of the redlinked/extlinked articles having an article which they are not correctly linked to? If so, can they correct the links?

OK I have done it now. --DanielRigal (talk) 22:22, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

NNTP

this is absurd. i realize that some MTA's support NNTP, but it is not a mail protocol, never has been, and never will be. it's one of those 'let's throw this in too' features, because it's a relatively lightweight protocol. it may be a feature of some mailservers, but since it's not a core email component, i think it has no business being in a comparison chart of email servers. any objections to removing it? Anastrophe (talk) 19:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Absolutely right. This table mixes MTAs/MDAs/and more things. Would make sense to make different tables or to split the columns by functionality. Nkuttler (talk) 19:04, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I agree with the fact that NNTP is not really related to SMTP & email, BUT that column doesn't take up any room, and if the information is real, then I think we should just leave it there, it doesn't really hurt. Alchaemist (talk) 12:21, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Sortable columns?

Is there a way to make the columns sortable? With the two-row header, I don't know if it's possible. --Duncan (talk) 15:09, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

storage format (more db/fs detail)

I think it would be incredibly useful if, instead of simply saying "yes/no" for database or filesystem storage support, it would mention which solutions (e.g. Informix/MySQL/Postgres, maildir/mbox/MIX) are supported. ⇔ ChristTrekker 08:02, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

I agree, there is a lot of variation within each category and there are probably hybrid systems too. Gathering all the data would be a lot of work though. --DanielRigal (talk) 15:16, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Antispam features

I added a section for antispam features, something that is really important and relevant when choosing a MTA. I added the columns I considered most important, and the info on those that I know of. But most of it is yet with "?". I'll try to find the time to slowly fill up that table. However, everybody that knows of these features is welcomed to help. Regards! Alchaemist (talk) 12:18, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Anti-spam features are usually very important when choosing an MTA (as mentioned above) - but usually much less so when choosing an MDA (i.e. it should already have been taken care of by the MTA). With that in mind why is Cyrus-IMAP in the anti-spam features section? Being an MDA, it does really have much need for anti-spam features, comparing it to an MDA makes Cyrus-IMAP look bad (to those who don't realise that it is an MDA and not an MTA). Whilst on the subject, shouldn't the main comparison table separate separate MDAs, MTAs and combined mail servers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.103.195.144 (talk) 09:02, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
--edit, just noticed that mixing up of MTAs and MDAs has already been mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.103.195.144 (talk) 09:04, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

SMTP over TLS vs SSL

In the Feature comparison matrix it's not clear what "SSL" column represents when compared to SMTP over TLS and POP over TLS. Specifically I'd like to know which servers support "Implicit SSL" for SMTP vs "Explicit SSL" for SMTP. This is not listed as a comparison feature. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samuelrndc (talkcontribs) 19:15, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Squirrelmail?

Where's this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcannac (talkcontribs) 18:10, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

SquirrelMail is a web based email client. It therefor is in Comparison of email clients. --Athaba (talk) 19:56, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Split the table into MTAs and MDAs

As Nkuttler says above this table should be split into MTA's and MDA's. It makes no sense to compare the Sendmail SMTP server with the Cyrus IMAP server because they do totally different jobs. Unixtastic (talk) 10:03, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

I third this motion. This page is generally and almost completely obfuscating and I question it's balance considering the one "server" that appears to offer the most in terms of features is Microsoft Exchange...Hmmm. It's a bit like comparing product selection of a WalMart or Sears against something like Sony or Apple. Doesn't make sense and is confusing. Astara Athenea (talk) 21:49, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

qpsmtpd?

Should qpsmtpd be added? --92.27.34.75 (talk) 18:01, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Linux???

why is this Linux elegy on top of this? Linux is just another Unix-Style OS and everthing that is said there applies to all of them. I intend to change it accvordingly ... Wefa (talk) 11:37, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Latest Release

It would be helpful if there was a column specifying at least the year of latest release. For example, when trying to gauge DANE adoption, qmail can be ignored because it is not being actively developed and even though it is still used, it is essentially a dead project development-wise. Also, MTA-STS support and whether or not TLS 1.2+ is supported would be helpful, since there is a push to deprecate TLS < 1.2. Pipfrosch (talk) 18:44, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Users/Other: bogus column?

Some column should be either clarified or eliminated —so as to enhance readability. The users/other is the first candidate. What the heck does it mean? A mail server supports users, really? I propose to change it to SMTPUTF8 support.

Another is Database. Please consider that /etc/passwd and /etc/services are considered databases, and rightly so. Perhaps it means it can interface with external DBMS? That needs to be clarified.

"Other" Column

What the heck is the "other" column? Any reason not to remove it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎ AlexBenishek (talkcontribs) 15 sep 2020 02:51 (UTC)

The "Other" column used to belong to the "Users" column. It seems the table requires repair. --Zac67 (talk) 16:46, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Page layout issue report

There are some issues with displaying of the tables on the page on monitors with screen resolutions bellow 1333x768 (mainly 1024x768), with appears thru making that the table run out of the screen from the right page side and to see it's content, the page need to be zoomed out quite much, thru with the font becomes too small to read. Could anyone fix it ?
