Origin of article[edit]

The N53 is common knowledge among people who work for BMW and also for those who follow the car industry. Plans for it leaked out already in 2003. You can google it and get tons of hits easily. It'll be the next engine family after current N52 and N54, replacing the N52 engines with Direct Injection engines slowly. Timeline is not certain, it is expected to happen between 2007-2009.

If you can't google these details as sources, then you may have some issues.

More information will be added, of course, as soon as it is available, but there are several references to the N53 on wikipedia already as well, so it's better to give out what information is available, than nothing.

It still helps if you provide references before removing an {{unref}} template. Why not use {{cite web}} (see WP:CITE) and cite some of those googlable sources? (Just because something is googlable doesn't mean it's reliable; and you must have written the article from some sources, otherwise it's original research and will be deleted. Well, as a matter of fact I used the N52 article as a basis since I corrected tons of errors in it last night and just entered the data that I have read and heard from individual persons personally or web postings regarding the new engine. So no, I have not copied the data from anywhere, but it's not "original research" either.

There will be a lot of data on this engine here as it comes public, why not keep a template for those people who wish to know what's already known?

Better. Otherwise you could just as well have attacked the N52 article for lack of references, as there were none.

Displacement[edit]

Picture for infobox would be great[edit]

Successor engines[edit]

Hey 1292simon! I saw your recent edit to this page. While it is fair to say the N53 has no direct successors as it was the last of the line of NA I6's, from a commercial perspective, the following succession took place:

  • 325i/330i (E90,N53) -> 328i (F30,N20)
  • 523i (F10,N53) -> 520i (F10,N20)
  • 528i (F10,N53) -> 528i (F10,N20)
  • 530i and 630i have no direct successor

So I woud suggest changing successor to N20 instead of stating there is no successor. ExcitedEngineer (talk) 09:54, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ExcitedEngineer. Thanks for creating this discussion. I agree that the N20 filled the equivalent role in the model line-up (although some N53 applications held out until the B48) and it would be good for the article to discuss this. I'll leave it as-is unless others chip in and consensus to the contrary is achieved. As for "some N53 applications held out until the B48", there is two years between the last N53 and the first B48, and almost three when looking within model series. Hey,
I think it would be fair to add N20 as a part of the infobox, not only because of its role of a commercial replacement for the N53/N52, but for the sake of consistency on other pages' infoboxes. It is listed on the N20 page that the N53/N52 is a predecessor on both the infoboxes and on the page itself, so logically wouldn't it make to represent that on the N53 page? 128.6.37.115 (talk) 22:36, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
