DYK for Christmas horror

On 25 December 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Christmas horror, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that an early example of the genre of Christmas horror is A Christmas Carol, published in 1843? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Christmas horror. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Christmas horror), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Welcome to the 2024 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2024 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close on 31 January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), and Frostly (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hi, you mentioned "Have to agree with the argument that "is a convicted felon" is an imprecise label;"

just a heads up, letting you know the short description still says "convicted felon"

thanks 84.247.97.4 (talk) 01:57, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks so much for your suggestions!!!! You triggerred a lot of engagement and explanation. I will not use "blindly reverted" any more. I had meant it to mean "fully reverted without any edits" as opposed to "Re-editted" (Basically contrasting somebody telling me "You can't write that" vs "You should have written it this way") but I will just say "reverted with not edits" from now on. --Bertrc (talk) 01:26, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

Hey, @Bertrc, I'm glad you found it helpful. FTR, I didn't think you were intentionally assuming bad faith; communicating via text is difficult, and it's especially tricky when we're at a contentious topic, and as I've said the learning curve here is pretty steep. FWIW, Nakba has 177 watchers, 39 of whom visited recent edits. That's a good indication there are eyes on it, so the fact you aren't seeing others chiming in doesn't mean no one is paying attention, and I can pretty much guarantee that on this topic, there are folks with very diverse opinions watching. It looks like that article has been undergoing major work, and the editor doing most of it is not rejecting the content you want to add, just saying he's still working. He's a pretty meticulous researcher, this subject is in his wheelhouse, and you've raised this issue with him. Circle back in a month or so. Valereee (talk) 04:08, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
No, you were right. By this point I was not assuming good faith. Honestly, I still am not -- When somebody asks you to leave an article, it smacks of "owning" the page -- but Levivich thanked me when I said I was stepping out of it, so who knows? I appreciate those numbers you provided; they make me feel less guilty about not having the dedication or energy to keep trying to work towards a solution. I do miss my younger days when I could keep carving, editting and refining as the discussions go back-and-forth. However, nobody else bothered to comment on the issue, itself, so maybe I've been wrong, or, if there was intercommunal violence before the Nakba but nobody else cares enough to get involved then I don't need to feel bad about leaving it, either. --Bertrc (talk) 12:33, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
I do understand why that would feel OWNy, but in general when someone is doing a major overhaul, and that person is in general someone we know to be highly experienced on the project, expert in the topic, and well-intentioned, we'd like to give them room to show us what it is they intend to do, rather than insisting they give any one issue priority while they're actively working on other portions of the article. You can set yourself a W-ping for a month from now. And again, don't assume that because others aren't commenting that no one cares. It's much more likely that they're giving that editor the room for now. Valereee (talk) 13:09, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Sure. And, even if I am no longer assuming good faith, I shouldn't let that creep into my comments!!  :-) Heh, w-ping'ing is way more involvement than I am up for but I really do appreciate all this! Thanks --13:27, 3 January 2024 (UTC) Bertrc (talk) 13:27, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi Val

I'v sent before another message with material and another today to ask if you've received it? Will you be able to advise, and just let me know for now if you have received it? אומנות (talk) 19:44, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, busy time here, family home for the holidays. I'll go looking for them. Valereee (talk) 09:44, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Sure I understand and I hope you enjoy the holiday season!! Just had a feeling it got lost there, and while I was afraid to bother-nag you again here, I'm glad to know there was indeed a confusion per my passionate name for music and nature there haha, and sorry for this. Thank you very much! :-) אומנות (talk) 10:28, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, if you often feel like your emails get ignored, that might be the reason. I figured those were spam, didn't even bother to open them. Valereee (talk) 11:10, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi, yeah the box there automatically associated it with my YT account, and sorry I just responded yesterday as again some health and pain issues... with this wanna make sure again you saw my message from yesterday, I addressed your explanations and ask there something more. And anyhow, to thank you here as well for your advice and help. I wish you a happy and tasty new year, as I see you love food subjects 🙂אומנות (talk) 18:11, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick and another kind message there now, replied there now too. אומנות (talk) 20:01, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
Before archived; I currently wanna leave my YT-address account so keeps delivered as that "music nature". So, notifying I sent something yesterday (besides the links 2 days ago). And I understand what you meant, I just shared last general-feels to explain and sharpen difficulties, dis-attached from the commentary-clean links for the specific issue + 2 last policies questions for now I wish to learn, to satisfy your guidance and the rules. Thank you. And again, a happy new year. אומנות (talk) 14:49, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Answered your concern, and have a query of my own, which I'll raise separately, after. אומנות (talk) 16:31, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
