Tess Daly date of birth[edit]

Just to let everyone know that Tess Daly was born on April 27th 1971 in Stockport Cheshire England UK according to the Internet Movie Database so that is the reason why I have changed it.

Steph2k1uk (talk) 21:52, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know who you think you're talking to. I just saw you post this since your talk page is on my watch list. That said, you should be aware that IMDB is not considered a reliable source for birth dates. Dismas|(talk) 22:33, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was talking to everyone in general Dismas. How do you know that IMDB is not a reliable source anyway? It is the best website for information on actors and actresses and also presenters which I go to quite regularly. Also the Internet Adult Film Database is the best website for information on Pornstars. Steph2k1uk (talk) 23:22, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like to notify the people who are watching the Tess Daly article, you should post to the talk page for that article which is at Talk:Tess Daly. As you and I are the only people who have edited this, your talk page, we are likely the only people watching it for any changes.
As for the reliableness of IMDB, it is generally held here that biographical info at IMDB is not reliable. This is discussed at WP:RS/IMDB. As for IAFD, opinions are split on whether the biographical info there is reliable either. See WP:P*#Useful links for more on that. As for what is considered a reliable source in general, please see WP:RS. Dismas|(talk) 01:25, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why does it say that the biographical information on the imdb is not considered reliable. People in the film and television industry use that website all the time to add content. The site is spoke about all the time. Talent agents recommend that website.

Steph2k1uk (talk) 18:01, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It says that because a lot of the non-filmography information on IMDB is sent in by users of IMDB. Users are asked to provide references for the information but don't always do that and it hasn't always been a requirement. IMDB's editorial review is not fully known as it is with newspapers and other media, so without knowing to what standard they hold the accuracy of the information, we cannot safely use it as a source for biographical info. As far as what the film studios and such contribute, for the most part it's just filmography info. I also know some of this from personal experience since I have an entry on IMDB. The only info provided to IMDB by any official source was what movies I worked on. Not any biographical data. And I don't know why or to whom talent agents would recommend it. Dismas|(talk) 02:35, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was recommended to imdb by a talent agent from Abraxas Talent. If you are adding bio information on IMDB then you need to have references. Also you can edit pages but when you do that the database managers check it first before changing anything. Steph2k1uk (talk) 02:17, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you'd like to take up the discussion about IMDB as a reliable source, have at it. Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard is where you would need to take your concerns. Dismas|(talk) 02:59, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Please desist from vandalizing and editing negatively to Wikipedia. You have received numerous notifications. Poppy Montgomery was born in 1972; please read the footnotes and talk page discussions. Continuing to revert and restore your own editing will put you in violation of 3RR and earn you a block from editing, which can be made permanent if the same behavior continues. Again, IMDb is NOT always a reliable source of biographical information and is often outdated or contains contested material. Yours, Quis separabit? 23:07, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was only adding a date of birth which I thought was right. I do not see any harm in editing information which I think is right. The Internet Movie Database is a more reliable source than Wikipedia and it is also used by millions of users. Steph2k1uk (talk) 23:12, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's simple: IMDB is not accepted as a reliable source. This has been pointed out to you earlier, with an invitation to take it up at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard, which you haven't done. IMDB is, in many ways, as (un)reliable as Wikipedia, except that IMDB suggests it's a reliable database with editorial oversight, whereas in Wikipedia you can see who did what in an article. So, while I wouldn't call what you did vandalism, I do believe it is disruptive and I urge you to stop changing birth dates unless it's based on impeccable sourcing. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 23:16, 11 August 2014 (UTC

Sorry if I have upset you. You can also edit the Internet Movie Database pages and change birth dates and other things but they have database managers who check all the information after you have submitted a change. Wheras with Wikipedia anyone like you and me can just change the information without it being accepted first. I have always looked at the Internet Movie Database as a great site and so do a lot of the top film people like directors and producers and also casting directors. Steph2k1uk (talk) 23:25, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Her family search public record actually shows the 15th June 1972 and not the 19th June 1972 but I will not change it in case I get into trouble again. Steph2k1uk (talk) 23:50, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Try and find what a reliable newspaper says. Also, I believe that we accept tweets by the subject for verification--I think I've seen that in places. I'm not a fan of that, but some apparently think it's OK. Drmies (talk) 00:39, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
