Wrt this, I left a comment there. —AldeBaer 17:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Not sure what 'Wrt' means, but I responded on the RFA page. I'd have done it sooner had my internet not crapped out (damn comcast!). New England Review Me! 17:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Wrt=with regard to. Also, you may be interested I commented at your editor review. —AldeBaer 18:26, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for commenting there. I just read your comment, and I do agree that sometimes my comments do border on being impolite, and I will try ans stop that (so it is tempting to give those responses). One thing I would like to know is why you don't think of this as reverting vandalism. New England Review Me! 18:35, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's certainly my personal opinion to an extent. I usually don't regard jokes on talk pages as vandalism as long as they're not abusive and don't remove any content. —AldeBaer 18:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Okay no problem. New England Review Me! 18:46, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
(ec) But it's a borderline case, as is often with vandalism. The IP's next edit however was definitive vandalism, which admittedly kinda proves you right. —AldeBaer 18:58, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Removal of an RFA

No matter how crazy the RFA was, shouldn't we include it? I understand your point, when I first saw it I thought it was a joke i was like "are you serious?" But he was. Shouldn't we put it back? Cheers, JetLover (talk) 00:40, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I thought it was a joke, and it will absolutely fail. But go ahead and re-add it if you feel we should. New England Review Me! 00:41, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't think it's a joke, because the guy added the {{admin}} on his suerpage at one point. Cheers, JetLover (talk) 00:44, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Self-deprecating humour is very popular up here eh? It's used in various cases to imply Canada is very authoritarian or socialist by critics, and somewhat more ironicly by fans. I think my usual implication on Wikipedia is that I live in a small, socialist country most editors have probably never heard of ... uh - it's a bit of a joke.

On the mailing list issue, I actually only signed up a bit back, and it irks me that my posts are moderated. You'd think someone with the trust of the en.wiki community could get the trust of its mailing list, eh? Cheers, WilyD 01:17, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Well now that I know what Soviet Canuckistan is, the joke makes sense (I don't follow Pat Buchanan enough to know he started the usage of the term). And it is funny (and puzzling) that while you're trusted to be an admin, you're not trusted enough to have un-moderated posts on the mailing list. New England Review Me! 03:28, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

image removal clarification

Hello. If you are interested in clarifying this edit click here. — goethean 16:04, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

First, when I looked at the picture I couldn't tell it was linked to the RFA. Second, why do we need the picture of that one? If you feel like mentioning that a user (could be mongo) left that comment, just link to it, just as the other were linked (and not pictured). New England Review Me! 16:09, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi, New England. Thanks for the birth day wishes!! Shyam (T/C) 04:45, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem. I know doing small stuff like that helps to spread the wikilove around here. New England Review Me! 12:05, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

my RFA

Thanks New England for your support on my nom.Balloonman 15:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem. I like seeing people I support at RFA become admins. I think you will pass yours fairly easily. New England Review Me! 15:47, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I just joined the red sox project. one thing I noticed is that the short cut for the project is WP:Boston Red Sox. I also think we should use WP:BOSOX and maybe WP:MLB/BOS. New England Review Me! 18:28, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi! I got your message, and thanks for joining. Those shortcuts sound great to make, and feel free to help out with the templates, WP, etc. Message me if you have any questions. Thanks! jj137Talk 1:47, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I just changed a user template so you could see the Sox logo on it. I've been a few wikiprojects, but none that were this new. I feel bad for whoever has to add the new talkpage template to existing pages, but I'm going to start on it (it gets my edit count up at least). New England Review Me! 07:00, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks so much for fixing that- I couldn't figure out exactly how. And about the talkpage templates, that's not a major priority, but it should be done at some point. And I agree with you- it would really boost your edit count. I'll try to add any I come across. Oh, forgot to say, you can change the picture on any of the templates- I just put the that picture there temporarily until I can find one for each. jj137Talk 16:07, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
I like the picture on the templates, but the colors needed changing. I'm probably going to make an invitation template (similar to the NBA projects). I have question on the scope of this project though; do players like Pedro Martinez and Nomar Garciaparra fall under our scope? New England Review Me! 16:59, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, those players should get the template on their talk page. I looked on some other players (from other teams) and they had the team WikiProjects on their talk pages. An invitation template would be a good idea, I can work on/help out with that. jj137Talk 18:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Possible Oldwindybear return

Hi New England, I've discussed with Oldwindybear the prospect of his returning to the project as an editor. He's expressed concern that recent incidents will dog him forever, or that his apology won't be truly accepted, allowing everyone to move on. so I am running this by you. No pressure one way or another - after all, he didn't block me etc. - just let me know what you think.Proabivouac 01:55, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I just read your question, and pondered it for a little bit. Unfortunately I can't give you answer right now. If you wait a few days, I can think it over more. If you want to, tell OWB he can email and we can discuss it there.
No trouble. He's already been desysoped; that won't change.Proabivouac 04:31, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

weird

Weird. —AldeBaer 15:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, weird indeed. I removed it though, and you got the message anyway. New England Review Me! 02:02, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I think I worked it out

I just erased my previous proposal and pointed out that it could be worded differently under proposal #4. Thanks. Okiefromoklatalk 03:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

I just broke off your re-write of my guideline (proposal 4) into a subsection of proposal four. I like your wording of it better than mine, but I rewrote yours to clarify that the moves would be discussed individually on each cities talk page (there was opposition to discussion all the moves on one page). see here New England Review Me! 19:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Transposing my page

If you wouldn't mind, that would be great. I was going to go about that just now after I had added a few more lines, but it would save me some difficulties. Thanks a lot. Gagueci 22:26, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi NE, It might have been a little kinder to try to disuade him, and gently nudge him in the direction of WP:Editor review. He has 200 total edits, and even though he's been around for a long while, I don't think he's got much of a shot. --barneca (talk) 03:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
I felt that way too, but I also felt that if he had created the page, I would be helping him by transposing it. New England Review Me! 03:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Transcluding. --Deskana (banana) 03:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Right, transcluding, sorry (but Firefox doesn't recognize transcluding as a word) New England Review Me! 03:19, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
True enough, NE. Let's see how gentle everyone is; with no other RfA's available, it could be like bored kittens toying with mice. --barneca (talk) 03:17, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

New England, I just wanted to say thank you for my successful RfA, which passed 89/2/5. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of support that I received and I am more than a little bit humbled at the kind words yourself and many others had to say about me. I wanted to personally say how much it is appreciated. Trusilver 02:26, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Vick

Please revert your edit that you just did on the vick article. I will gladly explain to you the situation but i do not want an edit war. Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  22:41, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Could you explain it to me first? New England Review Me! 22:42, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Commonwealth R/realm

Because you are new to the discussion I would like to bring you up to speed here rather than repeat myself on the article's talk page. Basically, my opponents cite exactly one example of the expression "Commonwealth Realm" (with the "r" capitalized) to justify capitalizing it everywhere on Wikipedia.

I can cite you at least twenty examples on the Queen's own Website or in academic articles to show that virtually nobody in the real world capitalizes it. I lay out the evidence here and here.

(Virtually all of the examples of it capitalized on the Web are copied from Wikipedia.)

It may seem trivial to you, but students who use Wikipedia could lose marks on their papers for using the wrong form. I've studied in Britain, Canada and the U.S., and I know my political science professors would have marked my papers off if I had capitalized Commonwealth realm.

BTW, I'm doing some genealogical work in Massachusetts right now, trying to track down the marriage record of Irish ancestors who married near Concord in 1848. The Commonwealth (of Massachusetts) archives are amazing. I've never before encountered such helpful people in all of my genealogical work.

Best wishes,

Jonathan David Makepeace 00:26, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, I didn't realize this was such a serious debate. You seem to know more about the issue, so I'll trust you when you say moving the article was the right thing to do. And thanks for saying the people at our archives are nice, I don't know anyone who works there, but think what you said is true for the whole state. New England Review Me! 00:32, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

AFD Closed

Because of the evidence you presented, I closed the AFD as keep. I would recommend that you incorporate some of those articles you presented me with into the pages. New England Review Me!/Go Red Sox! 15:41, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Your sig

Is there any possibility you could have a less ostentatious sig? You may enjoy seeing it plastered all over a talk page such as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Carter (baseball) but for the rest of us, its just a very unwelcome visual distraction. --Tagishsimon (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tagishsimon (talkcontribs) 01:09, August 30, 2007 (UTC)

AfD Nominations

Hi New England. In the future, please remember that according to WP:ORG, the scope of an organization is not the sole criteria to be measured when determining whether or not an organization is notable. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 02:00, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem. If AFD finds the articles notable enough to keep, I won't be offended. New England Review Me!/Go Red Sox! 03:50, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
