Userbox request for WP:APARKS

Good evening Luis,

I am in the process of making userboxes for the WikiProject, WP:APARKS. I wanted to inquire if you could simplify a userbox idea I had, seeing you are one of the active editors taking requests. The userboxes are below. They are of a simple design, with the idea that a user can use the |red/blue input to change the color to a preferred blue or red scheme (e.g. {{User:User/Userbox/ACE member|red}} or {{User:User/Userbox/ACE member|blue}}). Would you think that is possible, or should I make two userboxes templates instead? Any and all help would be appreciated!

@Adog: It is 100% possible to make a switch input in a userbox. I have done this with some of my userboxes and seen some userboxes like that. The template (or parser function) for your userbox would be:

{{#switch:{{{1}}}|red=COLOR_HERE|blue=COLOR_HERE}}

You can put the template above in the id-c and border-c parameters and when you use the parser function, it should change color. luis. 💬 13:42, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

Colour contrast

Hi Luis. I notice that some of the userboxes you've created recently (including {{User:JCMLuis/UBX/Not enough GWR locomotive articles}}, {{User:JCMLuis/UBX/Not enough LNER locomotive articles}}, and {{User:JCMLuis/UBX/Not enough LMS locomotive articles}}) use colour combinations that have very little contrast between the text and the background colour. This is contrary to MOS:CONTRAST, which – as an accessibility provision – applies not just in article space but across the entire project. You provided the pressure of the first tropical depression recognised by the Japan Meteorological Agency in 2023 as 996 hPa, but the lowest was estimated 1008 hPa. How did you get that data?  🐱💬 04:48, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Infobox conversion

The boxes will be moved over to the new infobox eventually using a box. Please avoid mass-adding the new infobox for now, since they don't include TemplateData and might break articles for users using the VisualEditor. Chlod (say hi!) 22:19, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

@Chlod: I didn't know, my bad. I have removed the empty parameters. I will be adding the IBTrACS IDs on Wikidata later.

Also, I encountered 2 problems while converting the infoboxes. One from attempting to convert on Tropical storms Amanda and Cristobal and another on Tropical Storm Gordon (2018):

• For Amanda and Cristobal, I copied the pressure-prefix parameter from the deprecated infobox into the new infobox, and when I checked the preview, the content in the parameter was sort of duplicated. This also does the same for the winds-prefix parameter.
• For Gordon, the damage costs ranged around $200–250 million, but I don't know how to make it ranged.

It's a bit hard to visualize what's being done without seeing the template code (except for the Gordon one; I do know a possible solution but I still need a reference). @JCMLuis: Ah, these are supposed to be on different subboxes entirely; one below the history box for Amanda, and the other below the one for Cristobal. The arrangement of boxes are not locked to support this behavior; see Template:Infobox weather event#Example for an example. Chlod (say hi!) 14:43, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

@Chlod: The old infobox for Amanda & Cristobal has been converted, although I still don't understand how the content duplicates. What about Gordon? The template used for estimating damages clearly does not support ranged damages. luis 💬 14:57, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

I'll still have to work on supporting ranged damages. As for why the content duplicates, the prefix is added twice: one before the value in km/h, and another before the value in mph. This shows up as "~181 km/h (~112 mph)" for example (with ~ being the prefix). Chlod (say hi!) 15:02, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
