Before I answer your question, I'd like to mention a couple of little things. You apparently hit the "Edit this page" tab, then left a message near the top of my talk page. No problem, but it's generally considered more polite to hit the "+" sign just to the right of "Edit this page" – this will get you a "new message" edit screen where you can insert the Subject/headline and write your message, which will then be added at the bottom of the talk page. I know this is bass-ackwards from the way most people handle e-mail, but it's customary on Wikipedia.
While I'm on the subject (of editing), here's a cute trick that's hard to find out about. Most articles have a lead paragraph that comes ahead of the table of contents. To edit that paragraph most people hit the "Edit this page" tag, which drags the entire article into the edit space. If you just right-click on one of the "edit" links within an article, then "copy link location" to the URL in your browser and change "§ion=n" to "§ion=0" before you hit enter, you'll get the lead paragraph only in the edit space. I find this pretty handy when I'm dealing with a big page.
Let's see. I graduated in 1973, so I'm sort of an old guy. I had a couple of friends in Ruddock House – Al Christians was the main one. I'm glad you signed up with a user name ... when I attended Caltech, people said "Ruddock rhymes with buttock", but nobody thought of it as a slogan. It was just a stupid joke. I guess time breeds tradition. Anyway, I have taken the slogan out of there a couple of times when it was inserted by anonymous editors – this time the guy putting it in had a name, so I left the slogan in there. And that's how I got to meet you.

Oh, I'm curious. You said you're a senior. What's your major? Mine was in mathematics.
Rather than describe how to construct a Caltech flag, I'll just put a couple of examples in this message, and you can edit the message to see how the pieces fit together. The first flag in the box at right is a canned version from Template:User Caltech, and the second one is just an in-line copy of it, with a little bit of the verbiage changed around. Notice that the canned version inserts a "category" tag on this page, which you may or may not want to have on your user page. I hope it's what you need. Please feel free to bug me anytime. ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]
Hello, Ctetc2007. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
