NBA 75th Anniversary Team

  • ... that the NBA 75 includes the only league MVP who was not among the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History? Sources: "To celebrate the NBA’s 75th anniversary festivities, the league has rolled out its official list of the 75 greatest players of all time. The voters got it right by finally including Dominique Wilkins and Bob McAdoo." (USA Today) "Looking at the NBA's relatively non-controversial list of 50 Greatest Players from 1996, it included: Every MVP but Bob McAdoo ..." (Yahoo Sports)

  • @Bagumba: This article is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are cited inline, the article is neutral, and I detected no copyright issues. A QPQ has been done. I would give this a tick apart from the fact that not all Wikipedia readers are from the United States, and the acronym-rich hook relies on the reader guessing what sport you are talking about and what NBA stands for. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:08, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
    @Cwmhiraeth: I know there's MOS:ACRO1STUSE, but we often seem less strict when it comes to DYK and ITN (see current NASCAR ITN blurb) for brevity, and its use is also the primary topic for "NBA". For a sentence, it seems a bit verbose to expand it, and the information is in the bolded link, so perhaps it's (yet) another enticement to click it, if one was still curious? If you're still not convinced, do you have a suggested rewording?
    @Cwmhiraeth: Oops. I forgot to sign above.—Bagumba (talk) 19:11, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that the NBA 75 includes the only league MVP who was not among the 50 Greatest Players in National Basketball Association History?
    @Cwmhiraeth: FWIW, the page title of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History itself doesnt expand "NBA" either as its COMMONNAME. I still prefer plain "NBA" for this case for the previously stated reasons, but understand it's a gray area w.r.t. ACRO1STUSE and hooks/blurbs. I'll leave it to you if you want to outright only approve ALT1, or alternatively leave it to the queue promoter to have the deciding 3rd vote on the final hook. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 23:28, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
  • Approving ALT0 and ALT1, and leaving the promoter to decide which hook is promoted. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:23, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
just a thought theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 20:21, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
I would approve that hook, if Bagumba is happy with it. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:39, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
@Theleekycauldron and Cwmhiraeth: Thanks for the suggestion. I think ALT2 is already known by most NBA fans, and at the same time doesnt seem incredibly more interesting for non-basketball fans. I still prefer ALT0 and then ALT1.—Bagumba (talk) 08:27, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
  • @Bagumba: happy to promote ALT0 or ALT1! However, i'm not seeing where the fact is mentioned in the article, cited at the end of the sentence. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 08:32, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
    @Theleekycauldron: The hook is a combo of these three sentences: "Of the 76 players, all 50 members of the 50th anniversary team were selected ... Two notable omissions from the earlier top 50 selections, Bob McAdoo and Dominique Wilkins, were named to the 75th anniversary list ... A two-time NBA champion, McAdoo was the only former league MVP omitted."—Bagumba (talk) 07:24, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
