Move[edit]

On September 1st 2012 this page was moved by User:Pudeo who referred to consensus at a different article on a different topic[1] for the move. This, in the very least, requires discussion.
A simple article search of google scholar illustrates why the "Mothers' rights" title is the source based name for this page[2]. While this is not a question of google hits, the above indicate what sources use. Furthermore as the article currently illustrates, Mothers' rights, is an independent concept (one related to United Nations campaigns and studies, as well as other academic literature). In short the action changing this page's title has nothing to do with this article and is not in line with naming policies - especially WP:PRECISE - or WP:NOR.
Based on this I'm proposing a move back to Mothers' rights along with a rewrite of this page's lede to accurately reflect how the topic is discussed in sources and what the article actually deals with--Cailil ^talk 23:20, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article's lead was about mother's rights movement already, I didn't have to change it. Certainly motherhood movement or mother's movement is used too, in a wider context though, but I thought about consistency. I think your logic has flaws in that you argue about the article's current status, while an article move always aims for the future state of the article: the article is developed after the move. Certainly the current status of the article can't be used for that many arguments, since it's almost completely unsourced. The lead only tells it's mothers' rights to have a low maternal mortality rate and that UN and WHO work for that. In short, I wouldn't use a couple of unsourced sentences to decide the future of this article. --Pudeo ' 23:38, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pudeo articles are developed based on sources and how sources describe a topic (I've linked to the scholarly sources on Mother's rights they can be gone through individually by anyone - they don't support your action and similar search for mothers' rights movement yields only 4 scholarly articles[3]). Articles are not titled consistently on wikipedia because topics are not always titled consistently in sources. There is nothing here about movements: no membership data; no histories etc. What's here and what's in the sources is about rights.
Moves etc should refer to sources not other stuff on wikipedia (see also WP:WAX). If your move is based on something about 'mother's rights movements' please show us. We can all work together based on something about this topic. However moves based on consensuses about other articles in other topic areas are not helpful.
And yes the page needs rewriting - but that's no cause for mis-titling it. Other titles are possible like Mothers' rights advocacy or Mothers' rights activism (if sourcable) but "movement" is neither in line with policy (ie WP:PRECISE & WP:NOR) nor sources--Cailil ^talk 23:54, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd agree that "mothers' rights" is a preferable title pending a clearer justification for the move; in Google Scholar, the phrase "Mothers' rights movement" barely even exists. (4 results, at least one of which is hypothetical). Khazar2 (talk) 13:31, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Given that no policy or source based reasoning has been forthcoming from User:Pudeo (after requests from 2 users) for the move I'm reverting it without prejudice to an RFC or a request move of its own for this article. A source based reasoning for such a move would be fine, a reasoning based on other stuff isn't--Cailil ^talk 13:54, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for Article Improvements and My Planned Changes[edit]

An outline of my proposed changes: Grammar and sentence structure edits Adding subheadings to information that fits under main points. Reviewing information already provided to ensure it is properly cited with correct source to avoid plagiarism

And my plans for article improvement: Edit introduction to not include information from outside sources and state the main points on Mother’s Rights that will be discussed throughout the article. Expand information on workplace rights. Add information on family rights, such as custody conflicts and a mother’s legal rights. More information on breast feeding before the description of the United States’ baby formula tactics.
