Speedy deletion nomination of Amanda mathew[edit]

Amanda Smith[edit]

On request from Adam (Wiki Ed) I have "userfied" this article - moved it into your "user space" at User:K24smith/Amanda Mathew where you can work on it. When it is ready, please don't post it directly, but click the blue "Submit" button, which will send it to WP:Articles for creation, where it will be reviewed by an experienced user, who will either accept it or give you feedback.

The deleting administrator, user Jimfbleak, wrote "non-notable junior officer, one highly partial source" and that sums up the two major problems I see:

Notability: Wikipedia is quite choosy about subjects for articles. The criterion for inclusion is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Youtube, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary) and Wikipedia:Notability (people). You need to find more sources, independent of the Marines.
Tone: a fundamental policy is Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. We are not here to promote anyone or anything, however deserving. The article comes across as a PR piece for the Marines and for the integration of women (not surprising as the only source is the Marine Corps Times) with terms like "strong will to learn... success... hopefully... " that make it clear you think this is good. You are entitled to think that, and to quote reliable sources that say it, but what you write in Wikipedia's voice should be neutral - no opinions, only facts.

A lesser niggle: "It is said now that.. " would soon attract an ^{[according to whom?]} tag. Check out Wikipedia:Verifiability. There is good general advice in the links in the Welcome message above, which I am sorry you have not been given before, particularly WP:Your first article.
