Shouldn't this be a redirect to Reagan assassination attempt? —Random832 (contribs) 03:21, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I've placed merge tags. Please discuss below. --Random832 (contribs) 22:33, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose - He is notable enough to deserve his own article. Lee Harvey Oswald, Sara Jane Moore, Lynette Fromme, etc. all attempted to shoot presidents, and all have their own articles. This is a consistency issue, as well as one of importance. Much like the others I just listed, Hinkley became a celebrity of sorts for shooting President Reagan (a negative figure, but a celebrity nonetheless). Much like the others, this man is an important figure in the Reagan presidency and US history. Happyme22 (talk) 23:11, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose Hinkley is an important historical figure and deserving of his own entry here. AniMate 00:51, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Not only notable for the assassination attempt but also for his murder trial, which is significant in legal history for the ruling of the insanity verdict. Besides, there's way too much information here to cram into Reagan assassination attempt.—Chowbok 20:39, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Bush connections?

I think there's a punchline of some sort missing from the Bush connections section. Is there supposed to be an allegation of Bush involvement in the assassination attempt? If someone has actually proposed such a conspiracy, why isn't it mentioned in the section? If no one has proposed such a conspiracy, then I guess it's just the beginnings of a list of everyone in the Hinckley family's Rolodex? Pointless as it stands now... —Wknight94 (talk) 12:27, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree with your point. The contents of the paragraph does not make it worth of a full section title. I think, however, that the information is worthy of being mentioned. Maybe lower in the text, in a trivia section without a touting section title.82.229.209.33 (talk) 07:57, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
George Herbert Walker Bush and John Warnock Hinckley Jr. are 10th cousins. If you have enough time you'll find the Bush, Obama, Georgia O'Keefe, JonBenet Ramsey, Dick Cheney, Katharine Hepburn, John Waters, Howard Dean... all related. As for any connection between the Bush family and John Hinckley's actions - I've never heard anyone suggest they were involved. John is still alive and has done a number of interviews - nothing yet.--David (talk) 21:59, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
