JAY-Z

I have already changed the Simple English article to JAY-Z. CB19 (talk) 12:47, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

@Cloverboy19: it should not be in all caps as "JAY-Z". It should be Jay-Z as agreed upon in the consensus above. It could also be against WP:MOSCAPS and other stylization guidelines. --Jennica / talk 03:46, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

JAY:Z

"GAY:Z" stylization is only for the promo art of his recent album 4:44 and should be removed from the lede along with the unreliable tour date source. — TheMagnificentist 19:48, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Why is the default sort "Z, Jay"? Z is not his surname. Why not just file under J? --Jameboy (talk) 17:17, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

No objections here so I fixed it (changed defaultsort to "Jay-Z"). --Jameboy (talk) 10:32, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

When doing research on the John Walker (Family of Spies) I noticed his son, Michael Walker's page has been removed. May I ask why. OPINION: Opening section sucks, needs improvement

The opening section to this article is pretty bad imo. It's just a bunch of superficial rankings and how much money Jay-Z has made. It could be vastly improved by covering a general history of Jay-Z's musical career, his style of music, and/or influence in the music industry (like the opening sections for Beyonce, Kanye West, Kendrick, J. Cole). I don't wanna edit it cuz I'm no expert on Jay-Z, just wanted to give my opinion on this article. SomePersona (talk) 04:53, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

What do my fellow Wikipedians think about this? SomePersona (talk) 03:19, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Agreed! What are your thoughts? I mean right off the bat, it looks a tad citation heavy (WP:CITEKILL). LivinRealGüd (talk) 04:40, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for responding. I feel like much of the first paragraph (which, I must agree, is pretty citation-heavy) could be moved to a seperate section (probably titled “achievements,” “acclaim,” or “influence”). It could be replaced with a brief history of Jay-Z’s records, his general music career, and/or his special style of music. I feel like this is what someone who had no idea who Jay-Z is would want to know, not how high Rolling Stone ranked Jay-Z on some list. SomePersona (talk) 17:21, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

We need to change this section, it's really bad SomePersona (talk) 14:25, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

The S. Carter Collection mixtape?

I guess there's a good reason why it's nowhere to be seen on any Jay-Z-related page? It's Carter's only mixtape and it definitely exists - it was even added to Tidal earlier this year.92.184.105.79 (talk) 07:58, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Where Jay-Z is introduced as an 'African American musician, etc.', this should be changed to 'African-American'; i.e. 'African American' should be hyphenated - anything else is grammatically incorrect. 81.153.54.61 (talk) 14:23, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Done as this is a minor edit. I have no prejudice against an editor in good standing reverting the recent edit that changed the lead sentence from "American" to "African American", as his race is discussed later on in the article including the intro section. —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:42, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

In the politics section it could be of important discussion to talk about Jay Z's and Molly Crabapple collaboration of "The War on Drugs is Epic Fail", in which they talk about President Nixon's quote in regard to the War on Drugs. This collaboration particularly highlights the struggles that minorities have in the drug war created by high white powers in Government. The phrase The brand is known for its popularity with high-profile artists as being the gold bottles often referred to in media. and the citations after it are duplicated, and the first instance has a stray </ref> tag.

It appears that the duplication happened initially in <these changes>, which appeared to have been attempting to remove a citation that was just a quote without a source and an attempt at fixing things was also done in <this change> which ended up removing one of the initial citations (because it was left broken from the initial change).

The best outcome would probably be only one instance of the line, with the citation that ended up getting deleted restored and with the citation that was just a quote without a source remaining removed. Although I haven't reviewed the citation that was removed in the second change to see if it's needed, it just appears it was removed due to the tag being broken rather than its content. 2804:F14:80D6:E401:BDFE:45D3:FE55:4429 (talk) 06:57, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
