Purported name change

I removed the "Knowles" from the subject's name. The reference given was a slideshow on HuffPo, which sourced the bit about this person to this, which in turn says A source told the Daily Star newspaper.... The Daily Star being this, which is unacceptable per WP:BLPSOURCES. This is how gossip loops are started, and often we are responsible for propagating them. It is in no way comparable. Changes of name are entirely different from complete changes of stylisation. As far as I can tell he has hardly ever even edited the article, you are just taking it way too personal. In any case, I think (although this is only my take on it and constitutes OR, so please don't take it as fact) that Joe Levy and the journalists who read his tweet may have misinterpreted the information he was given. Jay-Z has been labelled on various music stores as JAY Z for several years now yet no one batted an eyelid, and various reliable sources have happily reported his name as Jay-Z. Quite why his label is reporting that he has dropped the hyphen now, considering that they decide how his music is labelled, and no one has requested a change since his labelling changed, is a mystery. It seems to be as if, say, there is a black cat in a completely white room that everyone can see but no one says that it's there – and only now has someone said that the cat is there. Excuse the analogy, but I'm trying to say that he has been labelled like this for a while and it's only now that someone has said "hey, his label is labelling things differently!" that people are saying a change is necessary. (The album cover for Magna Carta... Holy Grail, meanwhile, could not have been less helpful in sorting out this issue, considering the position of the black stripe.) The correct phrase is elephant in the room. This controversy is exactly why the stripe is there; to help fan the flames. From a cynical point of view, this is exactly why that album is at #1. What I will say is this; if they have labelled it on music stores for so long, why aren't we? Either he is intending to change it permanently, in which we need to wait for a bit (actions speak louder than words) or he is planning on using the terms interchangeably, in which case we have a bit of a problem. However, we do not just act on a whim when artists make stylization changes to their names. I am extremely positive that most reliable sources in the article and online use "Jay-Z" rather than "Jay Z". Even after the announcement some sources still use "Jay-Z" which as of today is the clear WP:COMMONNAME. It is kind of interesting though that iTunes changed every "Jay-Z" album to "JAY Z" and his name has been billed as JAY Z since his featurings on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Let's just make a note of it in the article and wait a while. I typically !vote on move requests to match the artist's preferred naming convention but it's too soon IMO to make a call on this one. No. Wikipedia goes by the WP:COMMONNAME used by reliable sources. At present, most reliable sources still refer to him as "Jay-Z", except for making reference to this latest story. Things may change if "Jay Z" or "JAY Z" becomes the mainstream way his name is used in reliable sources, but it isn't yet and Wikipedia does not pre-empt what may or may not happen. Decoded book assault charge reference

In his book Decoded, Jay-Z addresses his assault case. While he didn't apologize for his actions, he did express regret that the incident happened and attributed it to a loss of control, saying that there was no reason for him to get into a situation that put him and people who depended on him at risk. He also vowed to never get involved in a similar situation again.[citation needed]

This is referenced in the book on pages 160 through 166. The last sentence there is found nearly verbatim om page 166.

Coldplay should be listed as an associated act. They two have recorded music together, and held a joint concert on December 31, 2012 at Barclays Center. Not done: Apologies but I undid your edit. This has been discussed before and it ultimately proved impossible to source reliably. The subject's reps have also contacted OTRS asking that this be removed as untrue (which makes sense because you will not find a single statement by him or his wife to this effect). He was known as "Jay-Z" for his entire career until July 2013 and has now been "officially" known as "Jay Z" for less than a year. WP:RECENTISM applies. I provided reliable sources from today and yesterday to demonstrate that he is not just referred to as "Jay Z" now, and it is still about 50/50 in usage overall.   • Support I think essentially WP:COMMONNAME is almost toss-up right now, with inconsistency between sources and even within articles in recent press. However, what's making me lean support is that the quality of sources favouring unhyphenated (e.g. from the nom, CBS news, Washington Post) as well as their apparent quantity, though it is surprising that sources are still using both variants in the same article (e.g. UK press: Independent, BBC). Also FWIW Google trends shows a growing trend towards the unhyphenated version, and increasingly fewer searches for the hyphenated version. benmoore 23:21, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Should info on Blue Ivy be included?

Blue Ivy is a minor who is not notable other than her parents. Should her name and date of birth (even though it is well documented) be included in this article, because it would seem to contradict with Wikipedia's guidelines on this? I'm confused. Twyfan714 (talk) 01:39, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Blue's name has been widely disseminated in the media and her date of birth too by reliable sources. I could understand how one might have a problem with Blue having her own article per WP:NOTINHERITED, but it seems fine to mention her in this article. ShawntheGod (talk) 09:46, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

is inaccurate and unsupported by the cited source. That the stage name Jay-Z is an homage to the J/Z subway lines is an urban myth, and is not mentioned at all in the linked biography on AllMusic. Every external mention of it on the web links back to this erroneous wiki entry. Furthermore, it is directly contradicted by this Daily News article from 2009:

Clarification

I have reverted an edit at List of Filipino Americans, that made the claim, using a student association page as a source, that the subject of this article is a multiracial Filipino American. I do not find any other sources making the claim, therefore I reverted the change per WP:BURDEN. Can I please get some confirmation that the source is wrong.
