The second case involves a 31-year-old man (the 132nd case). The patient with underlying illness lives at Serene Court, Sai Ning Street, Kennedy Town. He developed fever, myalgia and diarrhea since March 8. He attended a clinic at an institution yesterday and then attended the Accident and Emergency Department at Queen Mary Hospital. His deep throat saliva specimen was tested positive for COVID-19 virus today and has been arranged for management at Tuen Mun Hospital. He is now in stable condition. The patient had travel history during the incubation period. He had been to Boston in the United States of America between February 22 and March 1. He then travelled from Boston to Manila in the Philippines via Tokyo in Japan arriving Manila on March 2. He returned to Hong Kong from Manila by flight CX930 by Cathay Pacific on March 8. His wife who lives with him is asymptomatic and will be arranged for quarantine. Demch1969 (talk) 15:43, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

I just want to notify everyone that I created a draftspace for the coronavirus pandemic in Metro Manila. If anyone is interested on expanding it, please feel free to do so. Thanks! —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:46, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

  • Comment. The current Metro Manila community quarantine and partial lockdown would be best suited for a separate article under the title in your draftspace. I see an inevitable split as more developments are added concerning this region-wide lockdown in this article. Keep an eye out when this article already becomes too Manila-centric and just transfer those to your article. Good job on the comprehensive reporting and regular updates in this article! Summary of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines 112-140

Can we use this to update the table? - SUBWAY 14:04, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

There's no question that we can use it to update the table, as it came from the DOH themselves. You've gone incognito (talkcontribs) 14:11, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Daily tally of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines

I find this table really irrelevant. The increments can already be found in the Statistics part of the article. Also, the notes don't really help much: "Only two new cases", "Only three new cases"???? This is really redundant and I suggest be removed.- SUBWAY 03:46, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

Added "Other Identified Cases"

Since they do not qualify with WP:NOTE, they were removed. But I believe that they must be included, as they are frontliners or personalities who made regional or national relevance. Please do not remove. List of frontliners will also be updated once all names are gathered. Ash CA (talk) 02:17, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Non-notable and incomplete details. You can't just leave an article hanging without the complete details. Also, please do not add the above unless we reached a consensus. - SUBWAY 02:42, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

Details for frontliners are now complete. Will edit it with permission.

These are recognized people, even they do not qualify in WP:NOTE. These cases are "unique" and can be compared to the first cases of this Pandemic in the country, which also garnered significant focus in this article. Ash CA (talk) 03:55, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

When should we have a consensus? More information are coming in Aesyeo (talk) 15:58, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

@Aesyeo: Ash CA, are you seriously going to put every public official and non-notable personalities who will contract the virus as long as they have a reference? Councilors? Vice Mayors? Vocalists?? Might as well create a separate article for this instead of clogging up the main article. Please look at the articles of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in other countries and see if they are putting the same way you are doing it. I see that you already put this back but I'm telling you, this is very insignificant and just messing up the article. - SUBWAY 02:30, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

List of provinces and other first-level subdivisions (cities) with confirmed cases

Should we list provinces with officially confirmed cases (not necessarily from the Department of Health; like their local governments or DOH regional offices) liek the "Affected Regions" section of the 2009 flu pandemic in the Philippines? Also some provinces make announcements even though their cases were admitted in another LGU and this should be noted accordingly. I would assume they would weigh in several factors before declaring a case their LGU's first case. This would give a more accurate picture of the disease's spread in the Philippines rather than just relying on cases according to residence or hospital of admission of the patient.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 04:14, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

@Hariboneagle927: I left a message here about cases by density. About cases by residence, maybe we could use this existing map? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 04:26, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
I would also like to address the data here, if whether we should count them by residence or by hospitalisation? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 04:36, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
@Hariboneagle927: That's a good idea. This page has already attempted to list cases by region (2020 coronavirus pandemic in the Philippines#By region), but it's obviously lacking and may even be outdated. Meanwhile, similarly, 2020 coronavirus pandemic in the Philippines#Government already lists government responses per province (LGU). If we're going to create a separate page, I suggest merging the topics of listing per region/province that this page has attempted to do. Pages of other countries are already doing this, particularly 2020 coronavirus pandemic in France#Situation by region. PatTag2659 (talk) 07:54, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
Also, regarding the cases of LGUs, I think we should rely on the official announcements of LGUs if they declare a case from their area. PatTag2659 (talk) 08:04, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
@Hariboneagle927, PatTag2659, Renzoy16, and Atikono1: Can we still trust the DOH's COVID-19 case tracker? It seems like it's having some problems. Is there any way we could bypass this somehow and get the reliable and accurate data from them? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 07:02, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Up until PH 803, we have the data for Hospital of Admission that both the UP and DOH Dashboard doesn't have

Where are we getting this data, and does that source already became unreliable? Aesyeo (talk) 09:43, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

The "Affected Region" below is sourced from the COVID-19 tracker, and reports from reliable sources (news articles) that mention patients admitted in a hospital within a local government unit's jurisdiction or local government official announcements that they have confirmed their fist case which may not necessarily be admitted in a hospital within their locality.
The main map (the one in the infobox) is sourced from the 2020 COVID-19 tracker which until recently is based on confirmed cases according to hospital admission. Once the 1,000 confirmed cases milestone is reached. The tracker changed from dotting confirmed cases according to hospital of admission to place of residence. And there's the other inconsistencies which has been noted by other editors.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 13:39, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
@Hariboneagle927, PatTag2659, and Renzoy16: can we use this unofficial website as a source? They have been improving it since the last time I visited it and it looks better now. I saw that they're reporting PUIs by hospitals too, I think it's outdated though. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:47, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
@HueMan1: That site could do. Just keep the citation of the old COVID-19 tracker too. Thanks. PatTag2659 (talk) 16:07, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Where are Identified Cases

I just noticed that the table of Identified Cases was gone, and therefore not updated since yesterday (Remains at 1546 cases) and barely edited since then. I think those information are crucial. Thank You for responses! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aesyeo (talkcontribs) 10:28, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

@Aesyeo: Various editors (including me) have decided to make a major overhaul of the template, mainly because it was too big and causing the page to slow down, so I partially removed it (it's still there, just hidden). User:Renzoy16 then made a draft here and planning to create a separate article out from it. Any help would be useful, but ask Renzoy16 first if you have suggestions for it. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 16:00, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
It would be awesome to have a separate article. However, Please retain the identities of publicly announced patients like Dr. Bactol (PH 200) and Dr. Jara (PH 215). For the meantime, I will just continue to identify and match known cases from patient numbers. Aesyeo (talk) 04:22, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Hospital Bed Capacity exclusive for CoViD19 in the Philippines is Missing

Can we please add data to indicate the hospital bed capacity exclusive for CoViD19 cases in the Philippines? This is also critical in the planning and responsiveness rate of our inter-agencies during this pandemic. This can also be used in forecasting support needed by the health sector as compared to the increasing needs per our confirmed cases rate.--leksespayos (talk) 12:10, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

COVID-19 cases tracker is back!!!

But I think they only made it worse. https://ncovtracker.doh.gov.ph/ is now telling you to go to https://www.doh.gov.ph/covid19tracker! The map is gone @Hariboneagle927:. The cases are gone too @Renzoy16:. But they have data for bed capacities now, isn't that great? I don't know how am I supposed to feel right now, most of the data can be easily interpreted with a spreadsheet application. I'm sorry for the slight drama, this is kinda disappointing for that period of time. I mean I was expecting for a change or something good, but this is what we have right now. I hope that I'm wrong and they'll be adding more data soon! —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:35, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

@HueMan1:, I just found out about a tracker and I understand the frustration. It's a bummer they took away the map, but its easier to find the number of cases per province now. But as expected, the criteria on where cases are "recorded" was changed again. There are new inconsistencies. For example there should be at least one case in Palawan but it's now not showing up (a bug?) and Zamboanga City and Zamboanga del Sur cases seems to be lumped together. But I updated the main map nevertheless and I'm going to revise the disclaimer accordingly. I just hope that there more updates to come.15:46, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
@Hariboneagle927, PatTag2659, and Renzoy16: Cases are now accessible through DOH's new tracker but I copied contents here for sorting purposes and accessibility (the site is laggy). —hueman1 (talk contributions) 14:47, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

To do list

Hello, as developments flood in, the article continues to expand at an exponential rate. I'll leave suggestions on what actions could be made to improve this article and other COVID-19 Philippine related articles.

  • This article ideally should provide a summary of the pandemic in the country.
    • Summary of milestone events goes to Timeline.
    • Cases summary: which discusses a summary on the cases; youngest and oldest victims, number of health workers infected etc.
  • Government responses should be summarized and should focus on actions by the national government, local government measures could be mentioned if its a unprecedented measure (first LGU to do mass testings). There's a temptation to get your home locality represented. We would want to avoid indiscriminate/unorganized listing of local government measures.
    • Articles by region, where we could move province/city-level info.
    • Measures by the police and military needs to be included.
  • Same goes for measures by the civil/private sector. Should be summarized and the goal is not to list every company that helped.
  • Controversies on the response of the government should be included here too. Like Duterte's policy towards China in the earlier days
  • Travel restrictions needs to be updated.

There's lots of room for improvement. But I'll leave these for now.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 09:16, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, this article is currently flooded with intricate details not really beneficial to readers. These are also increasing the size of this article exponentially and is also against standards due to WP:NOTNEWS. I have added a cleanup tag at the top to notify editors and hopefully mitigate unnecessary additions. --Shawnqual (talk) 00:09, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

In the header section

"As of April 22, the 26 out of 81 provinces of the Philippines has confirmed at least a case.[15]" - meaning 26 provinces out of 81 provinces have COVID-19 cases? Seems erroneous. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 03:29, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

I'm inviting everyone to participate on my move request at Talk:2020 Philippine community quarantines. Thank you! —hueman1 (talk contributions) 07:11, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

the death rate

In the statistic section, the death percentage should be the death rate defined as #OfDeath/#OfInfected. At present, the death percentage is of composition, that's not really informative. Can we change to death rate? any support or objection? Jackzhp (talk) 16:21, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

by the way, in fact, we have lethality = #OfDeath/#OfConfirmed. Jackzhp (talk) 04:56, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Lethality chart is wrong

In the "By Gender and Age" section, the Lethality chart at the right side of the table is wrong. Except for the "total" is right, the rest is not lethality percentage, but composition percentage. For example, for the "above 90" group, it is 30% which is higher than 15% which is for the "60-69" group. Jackzhp (talk) 05:00, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

@Jackzhp: What's wrong about it? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 05:09, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Petition to Add "Healthcare Workers" Sub-Section on "Cases" Section

I think it is necessary, but it is still up to other authors to approve this or not.

Philippines really has a high infection rate for Healthcare Workers (https://www.cnn.ph/news/2020/5/4/covid-infected-health-workers-PH.html) which is 18.68% compared to 2-3% average to the Western Pacific Region. The death toll also stands at 34. I believe that the reasons behind this and the actions about this should be presented, as well as the names of the 34 heroes who passed away with this disease.

Although the final decision still lies on the other authors, and I would respect that. HIHIHI^U^ Aesyeo (talk) 11:46, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Let's keep it simple, a subsection about the demographic status of patients is already present on the article. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:00, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Rearrangement of Impact Section

I think we should revise the "Impact" Section of this article to pattern it more closely to the same Wiki Article for USA by dividing it to Social and Economic Impact. For example, Financial Market, Employment, Food Supply, Medicine Supply, and Retail would be for Economic Impact Entertainment and Media, Prisons, Sports, Tourism, Religious Services, and Education would fit on Social Impact

I think it would be more organized that way, and updating details would be easier. Aesyeo (talk) 10:45, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

No mention of the mañanita incident in relevant COVID-19 articles?

I just wonder why the mañanita incident is not mentioned in any of the COVID-19 articles related to the Philippines? It has already gained so much media coverage because it was a clear violation of the ECQ guidelines. Also, the involvement of Debold Sinas, the head of the NCRPO, should be notable enough for this incident to appear in the articles. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 09:27, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

The main article is under a major restructuring, which is meant to be a summary of the pandemic. I'll see how to incorporate this in the COVID-19 related article but WP:NOTNEWS will come to play so not every transgression of high profile politicians/public figures will be in the main article (ex. Senator Koko Pimentel's quarantine breach, an info tackled on his page). This is worthy of at least some mention in COVID-19 pandemic in Metro Manila, given that its his main jurisdiction. As National Capital Region Police Office chief, imo he is also notable enough to have his own article too.Hariboneagle927 (talk)
I haven't heard of Sinas' name until he was appointed as the NCRPO chief. But I think he does need his own article. Will be willing to wait there. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 14:54, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Done Created an article about him, Debold Sinas, though it needs more work especially info outside the mananita controversy so that his article won't heavily lean to recent events. Also mentioned the controversy in National Capital Region Police Office since it is a controversy under the PNP's regional office. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 20:13, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. Something else can still probably be added there, but it should do good for now. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 07:03, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Backlog

I think the health department's backlog on validating the test results should be mentioned in the cases section too, not just the posthumous results. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 03:17, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

@Hariboneagle927: I also tagged the By region and Testing sections with {{prose}} and {{too long}}, respectively. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:36, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

The true status of the lockdown is not explained in full.

I don't know how to make an edit to this page to bring it up to what is really going on - so I thought I would mention it here and more advanced editors might want to jump in.

There is more of a stay-at-home lockdown than what is reported in the chart and on this page.

In the island of Luzon for example, the area of Pampanga specifically, no one under 21 or over 60 is currently allowed out of their homes; anyone else out must EITHER have valid employment to go to or a "quarantine pass", which is checked as you enter various establishments like malls -- and access is prevented without it. [a 1] In Angeles City, all inbound access roads have checkpoints preventing anyone from entering that doesn't have a legitimate reason.

From what friends tell me, it is like that in many other areas of the country, including the Subic Economic Zone. According to today's new, Negros is considering an all encompassing stay-at-home because of rising numbers. [a 2]

Philippines casinos outside Manila were allowed to open, but recently shut down when employees tested positive [a 3]

Thanks for anyone's help with this. Sarab73 (talk) 20:34, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

@Sarab73: We have a dedicated article for lockdowns/quarantines in the Philippines (see COVID-19 community quarantines in the Philippines), so I don't see any reason to explain the whole thing here. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 02:03, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Missing info / Summarizing

Are there any info missing here? I mean generalized information that should be here. What are the milestone events? I understand that there was an urge to include everything in the first months on the pandemic. Now I'm working on the article so it gives an overview on the effects on the pandemic in the Philippines. I feel that the following should be reworked. By region - this should be reworked to give an overview of cases in the region. Re-tweaked for overall cohesiveness so that the sentences don't seem to "repeat" itself. The social and economic impact should be expanded a bit to include the major points (but not include everything in the main articles).Hariboneagle927 (talk) 15:09, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

@Hariboneagle927: We might want to merge the impact sections back here, it just feels so disconnected and empty probably because of those two short paragraphs left behind that barely explains the real "impact" of the pandemic. The article is too short to be honest, we are indeed missing a lot informations here. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 16:01, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
@Hariboneagle927: If you aren't busy, can I ask you to share some opinions here? Thanks! —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:42, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
@HueMan1:: As I said, there is need to lay out summarized info about the pandemic overall impact in the Philippines. In the past the article has been overall detailed (like localized responses); since then a large portion of the problematic content was split into separate articles. Although some info from these new articles (especially information which is relevant in the national scale) needed to be moved back to the main article. The timeline also needs updating, to August 2020. We could use timelines published by WP:RS as a starting point for improving this section.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 09:33, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

@Hariboneagle927: I still think that it'd be better to move them (impacts) back here. I'd prefer to see all them in one place instead of hopping into different articles. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 10:26, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

@HueMan1: An alternate option is to move back all the info from the Impact section, trim done the information that are too specific and create a sandbox elsewhere where an acceptable overall summary could be drafted.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 11:38, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
@Hariboneagle927: I have reinstated the contents back and will be trimming some parts of it later on. Thank you for your help! —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:47, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Okay, Thanks for the help also.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 12:55, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

@Hariboneagle927: Can we use this as the basis for the timeline section? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:01, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

@HueMan1:, yes we could use that, though I recommend to refer to multiple sources, including those from non-government sources, as a guide as well.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 08:44, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

No mention of the PhilHealth controversy?

Aren't we going to mention the ongoing issue with the PhilHealth? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 10:39, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

A mention is a minimum, although I feel this could easily be its own article as well.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 08:45, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
