Beer tap handle sources[edit]

I would like to cite this article - http://beer.about.com/od/beerware/a/taphandles.htm - as a source for the various different types of beer tap handles. Breddings (talk) 19:12, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My work at About.com is not "self-published" in the same way a blog is, which I'm assuming is what you mean. I am a recognized expert with a specialized knowledge as described in the excerpts I copied above. Could you take a second look at the article and see if you don't think it supports the Wikipedia entry?Breddings (talk) 19:59, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tap traditions[edit]

For draught beer, there is a centuries old tradition that requires the delivery of the tap handle for any keg or draught beer being retired from the bar, pub, tavern, or establishment's beer list for which the tap must be removed. Upon removal it is presented to the person who consumed the last beer from the retiring beer, ale or cider. [citation needed]

I have never heard of this tradition, despite it being "centuries old," nor is a citation provided. So, I deleted it tonight.

Beer tapBeer faucet – According to the Brewers Association's Draught Beer Quality Manual (http://www.draughtquality.org) the proper term for this article should be "Beer faucet", to prevent confusion with the other draught beer equipment called a "tap", a keg coupler. I would recommend that this page be a disambiguation page leading to "Beer faucet" and "Keg coupler". Abethebrewer (talk) 20:09, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose WP:COMMONNAME, and we don't have Keg coupler, further a hatnote would suffice to the article which mentions in passing those things, Keg. 76.65.128.132 (talk) 23:11, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's also worth noting that the word "faucet" is a North American term, and wouldn't be used or well-understood elsewhere. 81.142.107.230 (talk) 15:04, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose it's commonly called a tap. Hot Stop UTC 05:19, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename to Bear trap. Umm, wait, what? What I meant was: Faucet redirects to Tap (valve), which leads me to believe that "tap" would be a more appropriate term to use here as well. Any confusion with a keg coupler could easily be handled with a hatnote. Jafeluv (talk) 20:34, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
