Technically, the first mention of slavery should not be linked because at that point it is referring to the institution in general, both pre- and post-colonial. The second mention is correctly linked to Slavery in the colonial United States because at that point we're talking about Washington as an inhabitant of colonial Virginia. The third, now unlinked mention of slavery should be linked to Slavery in the United States, because at that point in the text we've moved on to the post-revolutionary period.
