Factions of Halo[edit]

This is a very unique article, and I greatly desire to make it a Good article. What does it need to get to Good Article status? Thanks! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:04, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think any of the races would be considered "factions" because that word is defined as "a dissenting minority in a larger whole". While the Arbiter's group of rebel Elites might be considered a faction, the species of Halo are most definitely not. Why not rename that article to Species of Halo instead? (model it after Species of StarCraft). I'm also not sure about the section on artificial intelligence - I don't see what it has to do with the individual species themselves.--ZXCVBNM (TALK) 08:43, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First off this looks like a very well-referenced article. Following are some suggestions I came up with after a few readings:

  • The lead seems to go into too much detail about the story, and not enough about development or cultural impact. The only non-story info here is in two sentences crammed at the bottom.
  • The Development information is scattered around the article. It might be better to put this information in its own section, with subsections for each faction: UNSC, Forerunner, Covenant, and Flood.
  • UNSC's development subsection contains a lot of generic info not specific to either faction, for instance, "Paul Russel pushed the concept of three 'schools' of Halo architecture for each faction" and "Vehicles play an important role in the Halo games". Statements like these could be used at the beginning of a central development section.
  • The artificial intelligence section seems a little off-topic. The first two sentences aren't specifically related to the Factions of Halo, and the rest of the paragraph might be better merged into the development somewhere.
  • The Critical reception section could probably go into more details about how each of the four factions were described and taken by reviewers.
  • "has led to the behavior of the Covenant, Flood, and Forerunner units being praised in each game of the series." I might have missed it, but the sources in this section don't seem to back this up.
  • "Before the Covenant's attack on Harvest" -what is Harvest and why did they attack it?
  • "whose location is kept secret from the Covenant" -how did they not know about Earth when they were attacking nearby planets and moons in the same solar system? (this probably shows how little I know about Halo)
  • Maybe move the description of UEG (the first two sentences under "Military") up to where you're explaining the UN and Earth's history. Up to this point it sounded like the UN was the earth's government.
  • "humanity is thus the only race which can 'reclaim' the keys which activate the Halo network" -move this to after the sentence when you explain what the Halo ringworlds are.
  • It would be nice to have images of the Covenant and the Flood like the other two factions.
  • The ringworld wikilink goes to an article about a movie called Ringworld, which gives a lot of detailed information specific to that movie: "Width 997,000 miles (1,600,000 km)". This might be confusing to people reading about Halo's ringworld.
  • Intelligence wikilink should be changed to Intelligence (information gathering)
