Amphetamine is a potent central nervous system stimulant of the phenethylamine class that is used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy. It is also used as a performance enhancer and nootropic, and recreationally as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant. Amphetamine increases neurotransmitter activity in the brain, with its most pronounced effects on norepinephrine and dopamine. At therapeutic doses, this causes emotional and cognitive effects such as euphoria, change in libido, increased wakefulness, and improved cognitive control. It induces physical effects such as decreased reaction time, fatigue resistance, and increased muscle strength. Amphetamine exists as two enantiomers, levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine, and normally refers to an equal parts mixture of the two enantiomers in its free base form. It is a prescription medication in many countries, and unauthorized possession and distribution of amphetamine is often tightly controlled due to the significant health risks associated with uncontrolled or heavy use. Reasons for nomination: It has lots of equivalent articles on other language versions of Wikipedia (currently 48) showing worldwide interest in the topic and this is my first TFA nomination, though I don't see why the latter reason (listed in the preloaded censored comment) really deserves any weight.

Support Extremely comprehensive article. Quick scan of the recent featured articles shows the last chemistry related article was October 4, 2014. There have been no medicine related articles in the past several months either. Sizeofint (talk) 19:09, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Support Some of the references cite abstracts. I'm not convinced that this is necessary to such an extent. Furthermore, some abstracts contain numbered references (which are only accessible from the article and generally behind a pay-wall). Consider removing them.
