Belarus[edit]

Failed FAC. While I have all of the major issues addressed, such as missing information and pictures, the only slight concern is a grammar check. Can anyone check the grammar to see if it is ok? Is there anything else I can do? Zach (Sound Off) 06:40, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I also wish to point out that User:YurikBot is causing some issues with the interwiki links. I had to revert him twice, so please watch out for his edits on Belarus. Zach (Sound Off) 19:56, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why not do your readers a favour and delink all chronological items, except for (autoformatted) dates; this would make the text look better on the page, and easier to read. Can you give us one reason for retaining these links? See Wikipedia:Make_only_links_relevant_to_the_context. Tony 14:20, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I am going to delink some items, but important places, names , events and documents will be linked still, since they are relevant to the development of Belarus and to understand the country. Zach (Sound Off) 22:57, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK, top to bottom - with one general issue - all images on the right side and layout is a bit nasty. Try reworking the image layout :

  1. First paragraph in article too short
  2. "History" - I see some paragraphs here that maybe should be combined. Length is ok though.
  3. "Politics" - combine the last two paragraphs here if possible - the last one is too short
  4. "Demographics" - last two paragraphs too short - probably combine them
  5. "Culture" - try to combine some paragraphs here also
  6. "Related topics" - why is "topics in belarus" red? Either create the article or kill the red link!
  7. "International rankings" - HUH? What does this mean? Needs context!
  8. "Prose contains specific citations in source text which may be viewed in edit mode." - you should have all your references listed someplace visible to the user...
  9. "External links" - Needs descriptions and organization!

Hope that helps, take care! Ryan Norton T | @ | C 15:28, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a bunch. Zach (Sound Off) 17:59, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WOW! Almost all of my points addressed!!! FANTASTIC! Ryan Norton T | @ | C 07:28, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The last one would be hard to address, since I was asked to prune it before. When I tried to add it, I sometimes confused myself, so I am going to leave that section alone. Zach (Sound Off) 15:41, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a bit more grammar checking and editing. It looks ok up to "Culture". That section needs a little fixing, especially the music section. --Yodakii 06:48, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed up the sections and thanks for the grammar check. Zach (Sound Off) 07:04, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Question, is this ready for FAC? Zach (Sound Off) 03:05, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It looks good Zach! The opening paragraph still irks me but that should be fairly easy at FAC time. Just as an idea maybe you could mention the (relative) population or something there as opening paragraphs generally go of thier way to establish notability, for example. Ryan Norton T | @ | C 14:39, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I still have a problem with the culture section. It seems to be a copy of the "main article", Culture of Belarus, with section headers removed. The theatre/music part still needs work. It looks more like a list of vaguely related facts, than a coherent paragraph. Give the article a bit more time. Its almost there. --Yodakii 15:25, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It pretty much was a cut and paste job, since previously, the culture section was not included in the main Belarus article for some reason. Zach (Sound Off) 17:05, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
