Original – The USS Arizona (BB-39) burning after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, 7 December 1941. The ship is resting on the harbor bottom. The supporting structure of the forward tripod mast has collapsed after the forward magazine exploded.
Reason
Excellent EV, very well known and recognizable picture, high resolution/quality.

    • Actually, there were two attempts to feature Arizona media before this one. I originally nominated this in 2005, but the image at the time was judged to be too small for FP status, and thus it failed. An unrelated attempt to feature a similar image was made by Durova's in 2008, but in that case the image failed to gain consensus.
