Original – The Interior of the Palm House on the Pfaueninsel Near Potsdam by Carl Blechen. Oil on canvas. 1834. The painting was commissioned by King Frederick William III of Prussia and depicts the interior of Frederick Williams's greenhouse at the royal retreat of Pfaueninsel. The subject of the painting and the Orientalist odalisques are unusual for Blechen, who was and is primarily known for his Romantic landscape paintings.
