Harvard University[edit]

Ambassador Name Description/Profile
Michael Chen My name is Michael Chen, and I'm a campus ambassador to Harvard University. I've long used Wikipedia and made minor edits, but have only recently started to contribute more significantly. I'm interested in the ways in which the Internet affects society, and how the sharing of information can accelerate innovation and advance culture more rapidly. I'm also curious about how technology can improve government transparency and change the way citizens interact with their leaders and elected officials. This fall, I'll be starting my sophomore year at Harvard College, where I (currently) plan to major in computer science and minor in government.
Antony-22 I'm Antony–22, a graduate student in chemistry at Harvard with a research interest in DNA nanotechnology, and a campus ambassador for Harvard University. I've been editing Wikipedia since fall 2006, and in that time I have generally spent my time improving articles related to science and science policy, as well as topics of local interest.
Jen I'm Jen, a lawyer who graduated from Harvard Law School a few years back, and I'm a campus ambassador for Harvard University. I began editing Wikipedia in 2005, and I became an administrator around 2007. Since then I've contributed to a wide range of articles, particularly on topics that are underrepresented on Wikipedia, such as those related to the developing world and those of interest to women.

Ambassador Name Description/Profile
Austin Dixon Hello everyone! My name is Austin Dixon. I am an undergraduate student at James Madison University, currently studying English. I am from the Northern Virginia area, but I have lived in various places across the country. Outside of school I enjoy hanging out with friends and family. I am typically a very active person. I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities like snowboarding, camping, going on long motorcycle trips, and usually anything of that nature. I think that the motives behind Wikipedia are great, and I am excited to be a part of the Wikipedia community!

Mike Surowiec

I am an undergraduate at James Madison University studying business administration with a concentration in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship and I'm also studying computer science.

I love snowboarding, motorcycling, skim boarding, riding my bicycle, playing the guitar, and staying healthy and active.

I am an artist. I like to draw and I like to design but since I'm colorblind I focus on line, flow, and shape.

I am a programmer. I develop for Android, iOS, and the web.

I am a self starter and right now I'm starting a business that I'm really excited about!

Maureen Abernathy Hello! My name is Maureen Abernathy and I am a junior at James Madison University. I am double majoring in SMAD, with a concentration in Digital Video and Cinema, and WRTC, the TSC concentration with a web design track. I love reading, film, music, doodling on my notes, good food, traveling, and studying languages. I hope to travel a lot after college! I want to see and experience new cultures, foods, ways of life/living, and my time after college might be the best time for it. I'm very excited about joining the Campus Ambassador team, and I'm looking forward being involved in many upcoming projects!

Peter Riggs I'm an undergrad at James Madison University working on a degree in Technical and Scientific Communication—in short, I'm a career grammar nazi. I have a background in computer science, web design, and general nerdiness, and I'm fairly involved in wikiwork outside of Wikipedia itself. On Wikipedia, you can expect to find me fixing grammar and hanging out around the pages of obscure Scandanavian metal bands.
Spencer Adams Hello! I'm so excited to have this opportunity and I hope I can be of help to anyone that needs it. I am a junior at JMU, majoring in WRTC (Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication) and live with three of my best friends in Sunchase Apartments. I'm originally from the Northern Virginia area (Manassas). I love the Outer Banks, skiing, playing video games (in the process of building my computer), discovering new indie music, and making the most of my weekends.
Dean Stubbs Hello! I'm Dean Stubbs, a sophmore at JMU, majoring in Computer Information Systems. I'm looking forward to helping you all throughout the semester.

Adding your profile[edit]

Trained ambassadors should add their profile according to the examples above.
NOTE: You must be logged into your Wikipedia user account to add your profile.

Step 0: Upload a photo[edit]

If you need to upload a photo for your profile, go to Wikimedia Commons and follow the instructions to upload your file. You can add the category "Wikipedia Ambassadors" to your picture.

Step 1: Add your University to the Interest List[edit]

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Campus_Ambassadors, which is our Interest List. Is your affiliated university already on that page? If no, go to Step 1.a. If yes, skip to Step 1.b.

1.a[edit]

Add a section for your school using the Add a new school button. This creates an interest list for your university so that other people (instructors or potential Ambassadors) can sign up if they would like to get involved. Don't add yourself to that list, though; because you're a trained Ambassador, you'll create your profile on a separate subpage (Step 2 & 3) and then "transclude" (embed) that page into the Interest List (Step 4).

Now skip to Step 2.

1.b[edit]

On the Interest List (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Campus_Ambassadors), under your affiliated university's section, is there already a subsection for "Trained Campus Ambassadors"? If no, go to Step 2. If yes, skip to Step 3.

Step 2: Create "Trained Ambassadors" Subpage[edit]

Create a "Trained Ambassadors" subpage for your university, by typing "/Trained Ambassadors" at the end of the URL for your university's page. For example, if your affiliated school is Southern Wikipedia University, your full URL will look like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Campus_Ambassadors/Southern_Wikipedia_University/Trained_Ambassadors.

Once you're on the subpage, click the "Create" tab at the top.

Step 3: Create your profile[edit]

Add the following code to the subpage, replacing the parts in ALL CAPS with your own details:

class="unsortable"|Ambassador
Name
class="unsortable"|Description/Profile

User:YOUR USERNAME
YOUR PROFILE OF ABOUT 100 WORDS

If there is already a table like this on the subpage with another trained Ambassador's profile, you can just expand the table to include yours by repeating this part within the table code:

User:YOUR USERNAME
YOUR PROFILE OF ABOUT 100 WORDS

You've now added your profile to the "Trained Ambassadors" subpage of your university's page. This subpage can now be "transcluded" (embedded) into other pages. There are two places to transclude the subpage: the Interest List, and the Public Policy WikiProject.

Step 4: Transclude subpage into the Interest List[edit]

This step has two parts. We're going to first transclude the subpage into your university's page, and then transclude your university's page into the Interest List.

Step 4.a: Transclude the subpage into your university's page[edit]

On your university's page (for example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Campus_Ambassadors/Southern_Wikipedia_University), add this code:

Trained Campus Ambassadors:

Step 4.b: Transclude your university's page into the Interest List[edit]

On the main Interest List (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Campus_Ambassadors), add this code:

NOTE: By now you've probably noticed that this is the standard code for transcluding pages: the page to be transcluded in two double brackets.

Now we have a complete table of trained Ambassadors on the Interest List!

Step 5: Transclude subpage into WikiProject[edit]

If you are working with a class as a Campus Ambassador for the Fall 2010 or Spring 2011 term, also transclude the subpage into the Campus Ambassadors section of the Public Policy WikiProject. As you may predict, you can do this by adding the following line of code to that page:
