On November 1, 2023, a series of stabbings took place within the campus of Van Nuys High School located in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Van Nuys. Five students were injured,[1] along with three unidentified perpetrators being detained.[2]

Incident[edit]

At around 10:53 a.m. PDT[3] on November 1, 2023,[4] a brawl involving 11 students[5] broke out within the quad area of Van Nuys High School.[6] During the fight, it was reported that a student pulled out a knife,[7] causing 2 students to be stabbed during the brawl.[8] The fighting also caused another student to be kicked in the head.[9] The fight then led the school to be placed on lockdown[10][11] for around 4 hours.[12]

Aftermath[edit]

The fight led three students to be hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, with two of the three having stab wounds,[13] and another student that was hospitalized in critical condition.[14] Another student was treated at school for his injuries, which were considered to be minor.[15] In a news conference, LAUSD superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho stated in response to the incident, "One incident like this one is one incident too many.",[16] and "[The] LASPD will stay on scene and continue to provide safety and support to students and employees."[17].
