Donmeh West and other topics

Thanks so much for your very nice post. It seems to me that we have a lot in common, in more than one area. I am currently a student as well, in the United States. What is your field? I have 2 fields, Biology and Computer Science. Do you have any specific questions about evolution or any other aspect of your science club, by the way? If you can let me know what they are, then I'd be able to understand better how to help you. For example, do you want a list of evolution and other science topics to discuss at club meetings, or a few leads to possible articles for your science journal?

FYI, I have professional biology publications. I originally became involved with the Wikimedia Foundation because I was trying to get OR (Original Research) about evolution more active on Wikiversity, and help develop Wikiversity as a forum for OR. I'll have more time to do this after December 23, when I'm on break from University. I can keep you posted if you would like.

Regarding the Donmeh: That is so cool, that Freely is a professor at your University! He writes very well and seems to have an eye for interesting topics. Are you a Donmeh yourself? Does your Username have any connection with Shabbatai, because it looks so similar to me? Hi thanks for the reply. I am studying Taching Chemistry. "Biology and Computer Science" you must be a very smart student. It is great honor to me talking someone like you. I like reading spesific topics about evolution such as connection between evolution and anaerobic recpiration(I also want to add this to article Anaerobic respiration article on Wikipedia. I really want to read your articles and disscus them with my friends in science club. Maybe under your permission we can publish one of them.

As I said before my department is Teaching Chemistry. Wikiversity can be a very good opportunity to teach Chemistry on internet. I would like to be part of this project after finshing my exams.

My username has connection both with my surname and him. I dont know wheter I am Donmeh or not. as you know Donmeh people assimilated in a Turkish society to some extend. Hello! I'm about to email you some articles I think you might be interested in, in terms of what you said you wanted to see your science club discuss. The evolution of anaerobic respiration is not my main area of specialty, but I hope what I'm sending is helpful to you. I'm also sending you an article about a very different topic that I wrote. My other scientific publications have not come out yet.

Also, it's nice that you like people who try to reform religions. Judaism, my own religion, is actually changing a lot in the U.S.A. where I live. It's very exciting to see some of the changes, and to think about what else could be re-envisioned. Shabbetai, by the way, is one of my inspirations. I don't know how many practicing Jewish people you know, or what Jewish life is like in Turkey. In terms of modern Judaism, you may be interested in the articles about Reform Judaism and Conservative Judaism, which are very popular in the U.S.A. One of the main reasons they developed was that many people wanted branches of Judaism that gave more rights to women. There are also groups within Orthodox Judaism that are moving in the same direction, such as Modern Orthodox Judaism and the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance. Karaite Judaism, which dates at least to medieval times, is a very egalitarian branch in general and has had not too many problems with women's participation for quite a long time, although there aren't too many Karaites in the U.S.A. There's a nice section on French Wikipedia about women in Karaite Judaism, which I hope will eventually be moved to English Wikipedia. What did Shabbetai specifically do for women's rights?

Also, I'm already in contact with Yalhak, who seems like he does a lot of very interesting things on behalf of Shabbetai's historical legacy. But I'd still appreciate your speaking with him about me. --AFriedman (talk) 02:16, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

There are approximately 25,000 Jews in Turkey mostly live in Istanbul in which there are hundred of synagoges. I have a Jewish friend but he doesnt prtactise very much at all but I do know many jews in Turkey are very religious. In the city where my family live there is a jewish quarter. See Kırklareli Jewish Quarter. Reform Judaism seems really good. Do you know I strongly support Liberal movements within Islam. I think religions are essential for societies if they are not politicized. Using religion as a political tool can devestage our civilization. Therefore we should think religion and other things that influence our life differently. During Amirah's era he usually put women and men in the same label. Women enjoyed being equal to men in the many fields of life, and in the life of his fallowers, women occupy much higher position compered to other Jews or Turks. Need help

I am new in editing articles on Wikipedia so I dont know how to approach this but I noticed your comments in the article Igdir so here I go: the article of the of Malazgirt is specifically only regarding the Armenian genocide & has absolutely no information regarding the town itself. It is in my opinion heavily POV & I dont know if I can or should just go ahead and modify it after having left a comment on the page nor do I know how to approach a higher wiki staff member regarding this. Thank you for commenting on my page. I have also found discrepancies on the article regarding the Hagia Sophia. The article states that the Hagia Sophia was subject to 3 days of pillaging yet it also states that it was also converted instantly to a mosque. This is highly peculiar given the Ottoman respect to other religions and other sources of information (internationally circulated) that I have read regarding the subject is that Constantinople did not suffer the pillaging the article seems to suggest. Indeed the article contradicts itself given what is known about the respect Muslims have towards their centers of worship and the described actions the article states. I tried to write the article Greek landing at Smyrna with military and oriented contents. Many users who are interested in the Greco-Turkish War are focusing on its atrocities and massacres too much. There are uncomfortable situations in some articles related with Greco-Turkish issues (cf. Talk:Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922)#Proposal). I'm going to start the article with the topic of the dismissal of Nureddin Pasha. Do you know following eppisode ? Evimizin kapısına gelen memleket gençleri heyecanlı sesleriyle haykırıyorlardı: "Vatanını seven Yahudi maşatlığı'na gelsin".... Türkçe biliyorsunuz herhalede. Thanks for kind reply. First of all my concern about the article is that once some Greek nationalists tried to move the Occupation of Smyrna to the Greek landing in Smyrna and write a Greek version of story as they taught in Greece. So I thought your article can assist them. Secondly in the article there was one sentence only saying it is also called Greek invasion of Smyrna. As we see there is no difference between two. Now after reading your comment on talk page I see your position but still think it is better add the information to the main article to avoid further conflicts.

Unfortunately, in both Turkey and Greece the same history is told in different ways. But I see the western approach to Turkey uneven and found Wikipedia quite anti-Turkish, the Turkish counterarguments either neglected or looked down.

Well, the problem about Turkish people and Turkishness is that although being a Turk described as being a citizen of Turkey the historic background of the word disregarded, from elementary school to university we are taught Turks come from Central Asia and we expect Kurds and other non-Turks to say "How happy to say I am a Turk". That is very problematic. Therefore like everyone I am also confused. Since, I know some Kurds who never accept Turkish identity. Thanks Abbatai 11:35, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Tiptoe's comment is as neutral as it should be--no battleground behavior. @Drmies: I crossed out the "care to explain" bit. Didn't realize I was being snarky. Also, I've had this page watchlisted for a long time, with my first edit being in 2014, long before Abbatai's first ever edit on that article. I'd appreciate it if Abbatai's mainspace edits can be examined as well. Abbatai, who apparently is fluent in Turkish, left out an important qualifier from the source which states that the killings of women and children were an accident. However, in his edit, he made it seem it was intentional. The misrepresentation of sources is a big no-no, especially when it comes to controversial claims (i.e. the killing of women and children). It is you misunderstood the sentence. The long noun clause "Ermeni çetecilerinin gece yarısı kör ateşi" means "blind fire of Armenian guerrillas at night". It is not "gece yarısı körü ateşi". Thanks. • You two are not under an interaction ban. There is no rule against y'all editing the same article. The AE determination was about battleground behavior, and hounding can be part of that--but here, and I think ED explained this well enough also, there was no hounding (intentionally following someone someplace to harass them). The only behavior that seemed out of line to me was that one comment which they struck, so as far as I'm concerned, you two are good to go as long as you keep it civil.
