...to Wikipedia![edit]

Hi, reading your story on your user page takes me back to when I joined in 2014. I hope you have fun along the way, and the main thing to remember is that On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog (sometimes people forget that there are humans behind these usernames and so they are rude and uncivil, so pretend you're a dog and you don't understand what they're saying). From your comments, I see you're extremely courteous and kind. Remember to always remain that way - never break (just look at my talk page if you want evidence of the things people say on wiki). Good luck and let me know if there's ever anything you need. Best, Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 19:14, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Nicnote: Haha! Thanks! I think I'm getting the hang of this. I'll admit, it is a little daunting trying to get started and understanding all of the rules. But it has been fun so far. I may or may not have checked my email every hour all weekend long to see if my first article submission got approved. :)
As for questions, I wouldn't mind your take on the first tool that I've put on here. User:VoodooEconomics/Date Grammar Checker I've got two others that I've made but haven't put up yet, one that finds 1990's errors (or anywhere they put the year and an 's) and another that finds all of the "City, State" references with no comma after the state errors. I haven't put them up because there is still plenty, plenty, plenty of errors that I haven't gotten to with what I've got on there already. I'm hoping it gets some notice and other people start helping with the edits. I'd welcome any thoughts on whether or not it is useful, how to make it better, or other common mistakes that I might be able to find programmatically in a wikidump.
Thanks for stopping in to talk! VoodooEconomics (talk) 19:29, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@VoodooEconomics: Well I think it's a great idea, might put a few random editors out of work! It's a shame as I'm just as good at programming as my grandparents (they live in the countryside in Poland - and no, none of them worked for IBM or anything like that), so I can't really help you there. Have you thought of turning it into a bot? Might I suggest Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computing? I'm sure they have enough editors with OCD to be interested in something like this. Best, Nicnote • ask me a question • contributions 19:40, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Nicnote: I have thought about turning it into a bot, but I wanted to try and proof the output first. I also don't want to accidently edit titles or references where the original content didn't have a comma or an apostrophe. I actually looked into making it a bot first, but then I realized that they are supposed to be approved first and I didn't think that my idea was up to par yet. I've also asked a couple questions of some of the grammar police pages to ask about some places where I don't know if it breaks the rule, since I'm no grammar expert. Maybe as I get more confident in its output I'll turn it into a bot. Also, I just took a gander at your talk page, you are right some people are mean!
