Editing user pages

Please refrain from editing someone else's user page, as you have done yet again (this time at User:Irish guy14), despite multiple warnings to the contrary. Welcome messages beling in talk pages, not user pages. --Nehwyn (talk) 19:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I am putting my welcome templates on their talk pages, I checked and this user, Irish guy14 and he does not have a user page, and my template is on his 'discussion' (talk) page.
Are you sure you're not mistaken?
Cf38 (talk) 19:06, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
No. You put the message on his user page (again). Check the page history here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Irish_guy14&action=history
Now that is what you should not do. If the page name reads "User:" followed by a user name, that is a user page, and you should not edit it without that user's permission. Welcome messages go on talk pages, where there is "User talk:" followed by the user name instead. Like this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Irish_guy14
Where, as you can see, someone else posted a correct welcome message. And by the way, you did it yet again, this time on User:DEATHWALKER92 (also a user page, note the absence of the word "talk" in the page name). I appreciate your efforts, but please do pay attention to where you put your messages! --Nehwyn (talk) 19:11, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I believe something is seriously wrong, because when I do it it says that Im on the users talk page? Do you think I should contact an admin or something? Please reply on my talk page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cf38 (talkcontribs)
Well, you did place messages to me as well as to Gurch in the correct place. Try again with a new user, be sure that the page name contains the word "talk", and I'll tell you if you did it right. --Nehwyn (talk) 19:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

O.K I'll try, keep refreshing my (cf38) contributions to see when.

Cf38 (talk) 19:17, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Ive just done it, and the header at the top of the page says user talk: (the ip address), is it correct?
Cf38 (talk) 19:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes! That was correct. (And I just noticed you live in Cardiff. I used to stay there!) --Nehwyn (talk) 19:21, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I suppose there was an error somewhere, because evertime I posted the template it said user talk. In future I will log in and out again. BTW, where in cardiff?
Cf38 (talk) 19:24, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Heath! (And still I used to walk all the way to Queen Street for shopping and a Cornish pasty.) You? --Nehwyn (talk) 19:33, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I lived in Canton, which is why I created the Ysgol Gymraeg Treganna article (its a school and I went there) but four years ago I moved to Rhondda, so I live in a place called church Village, between ponty(pridd) and Llantrisant.
Cf38 (talk) 19:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I see you've attracted some serious attention from a vandal, and one of the filthy ones at that. Congratulations, that's usually a sign that you're doing some good work. I've taken the liberty to drop a line about him at WP:AIV, and I see he's been blocked. Twice. --Nehwyn (talk) 09:21, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Mistake

Hi, I reverted vandalism on the roderick page, not wrote it. Are you sure you are not mistaken? because I reverted vandalism from an ip address.

Cf38 (talk) 10:54, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

  • I was already a little suspicious when i posted that warning, since your account didnt strike me as a vandal account. After a closer look it seems that an IP already reverted the vandalism before you. When you reverted after that, it just got the vandalism back in.

Warning reverted, and happy editing to you! :) --Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 10:59, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh, okay. no problems.;)

Cf38 (talk) 12:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Howdy, I noticed you were concerned about the username of JohnS HIS371 (talk · contribs). I don't see a violation of the username policy, but perhaps I am overlooking something. Could you clarify? Thanks, --TeaDrinker (talk) 20:44, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the support, and great work. I went ahead and blocked X-tiinniie-biitch per the username issue. I'll go ahead and remove the category from John's talk page. I'm afraid the two articles you tagged for speedy deletion did not meet the criteria for patent nonsense, and seemed to be about fairly notable topics. It is probably better to improve them for the time being. In any event, thanks for the clarification and hard work--keep it up! --TeaDrinker (talk) 20:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Dammit! everytime I check out the recent changes page, which is most of the time, you are always there! Reverting, warning, it's unbeliveable. I believe you deserve this and a lot more for your tireless work. I can see an admin in the making;) It's great to know that users like you or Gurch are always reverting, and not going down without a fight. Well done mate, keep going and if you ever have an RFA I'll definatley vote for you! Cf38 (talk) 15:42, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Abuse Reports

Thanks for working hard against vandalism, but I'm going to ask that you make sure that an I.P. has at least 5 recent blocks before reporting them at Wikipedia:Abuse reports. Also, this is not a nomination for a permanent block, it is a nomination for the I.P. to be investigated and the network administrator contacted to try to stop the vandalism on that end. Royal Glamorgan Hospital

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Royal Glamorgan Hospital, because another editor is suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Fair use rationale for Image:Thaddeus-laugh.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Thaddeus-laugh.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Additionally, if you continue uploading bad images, you may be blocked from uploading. STBotI (talk) 20:36, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Family-guy-stewie-griffin1.jpg

Image:Family-guy-stewie-griffin1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hi - I received your report of User:Gaygaygay3. I have indefinitely blocked that account as a vandalism only account. I wanted to clarify to you, though, that the word "gay", particularly when used as a self-description, is not generally considered to be a blockable offense for usernames. Your report should probably have gone to WP:AIV as a vandalism report, not a naming violation. In either case, it's taken care of now. Thanks for calling it to our attention! - Philippe | Talk 18:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

News

Good news, you're in! The you got 8.75 on the multiple choise part of the quiz! The only one that wasn't what I was looking for was number 8, and that was in a weird zone, because it wasn't right, but it wasn't wrong. The answer I was looking for was E) All of the above, because it has been implied a few times that he has done pot, but you were right, and you aced the quiz. And you meet Seth MacFarlane, so that's a really good strike for you!

I got a few more questions for ya' though:

1) What is your stand on the bulleted sections (culturel refrences, trivia, notes, ect.)? Do you want to keep them, or do you want them in a diffrent format?

2) Do you have a WikiQuote page and a FamGuyWiki page? I need to know this.

3) Do you have a DVR (anything like TiVo really)?

4) What do you consider yourself an expert in (TV shows, books, movies, editing, ect)?

Well, that's it. Welcome to the helpers. --BrianGriffin-FG 18:19, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

That wikia is the one I'm talking about. Are you willing to to become a member of Project Family Guy? And WikiQuote? And the Wikia? That's all I want to know. --BrianGriffin-FG 18:32, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey Cf38! I just want to ask something real quick. Being that we edit the articals for the brand new episods, do they air the new episodes around the same time in England as they do here, or do they air the episodes a little later? Just something I want to know. --BrianGriffin-FG (talk) 18:15, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I've given out warnings for sandbox edits myself, but I think the warning you left at User talk:206.82.19.62 was a bit excessive. Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Fair use rationale for Image:Logo-valloire.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logo-valloire.jpg.

STBotI (talk) 12:23, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

AIV question

Hi Cf! I'll answer here, rather than bulk up AIV, lol. There are several things to consider, when deciding blocks, and if they are a "recent release". First, this is a school IP. So that means that it is quite likely that every day (and perhaps more often than that), it is a completely different editor. So with shared IPs, one should always assume good faith and if no warnings have been left for a few days/week, start over with level 1. "Directly after release of a block", is what I think of as a period of hours, sometimes days, but rarely longer than that. Especially with shared IPs, because if you watch them enough, you'll notice that nearly the hour those blocks are lifted, they are editing again due to the amount of users accessing the internet through that IP number.

Now, on the other hand, if this were an established editor, with a longstanding history of nonconstructive edits, perhaps a week would be considered still "directly after" a block, but even then, I'm not sure I'd click that box in Twinkle, lol. As to block length, that is really at the discretion of the reviewing administrator, and they would look over the block log, to see how long the blocks have been, if they were increased, how long it was between blocks, how many times the person got warned between the blocks, and those types of things. For this particular IP, with 11 previous blocks, (which you can see here, you can see that they escalated, 24 hours, 48, 72, 1 week, 2 weeks, etc., this one worked up to a three month block, and then after that 3 month absence, it started over with 24, 31, 72, etc. This is not always the case, but generally speaking it is not a good idea to place long term blocks on IP addresses. Since this is a school IP, though, the administrator may very well choose to place a months-long block (and just re-checking, that's exactly what happened). The IP is now blocked for 6 months, which will take us through the school year. It is unfortunate, to be sure, but sometimes a necessity. I hope that sort of helps explain what I meant, I just commented to alert the administrators to the longstanding block history and amount of disruption today, the "not recent release" was just to alert them to the fact that it wasn't in the last day or so. Sorry if I caused any confusion! Cheers! ArielGold 14:34, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Also, Cf, I could not help but notice the above notice about the image and free use rationale and wanted to let you know that while you removed the template here, you did not provide a valid free use rationale. I understand that the whole FUR thing may be confusing, but it is not enough to just say "free image", etc., so here is a template that will assist you: {{Non-free use rationale}}. Scroll down to where it says "Syntax", copy the part in the box, click "edit this page" on the above image page, and paste the template under "Summary" (no header needed) and fill in the blanks. For an example, please see This non-free book cover, that gives you an idea of how you need to fill out the sections. It needs to have rationale given for each part, for instance, one must explain how using this image does not hinder the copyright holder from making a profit, or how it is the only way that the subject can be conveyed to the reader, etc. I would encourage you to add this rationale to any images you have uploaded that are considered non-free content, to avoid having them deleted. Hope that is informative! ArielGold 14:39, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Looks good! Just need to put the source in (Source is the URL you obtained it from) and fill out the rest. Also, you do not have to put brackets around the article's title, as the template auto-links the article in the header. Great job! ArielGold 14:45, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

vandalism

Some vandals are so crude it warrants a level four off the bat. Here's the latest. I'll let you deal with him. David D. (Talk) 09:32, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey

I don't think you have checkuser rights to check any IPs. You need a name (talk) 16:13, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Needing a name

Looks like your instincts were generally correct -- You need... appears to be a vandal imitating I need...: this edit by You need... was reverted as vandalism by I need... Not sockpuppetry, just a simple vandal. --EEMIV (talk) 17:17, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

template

What template did you use for User talk:Dave Jonhs? --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 20:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure, I was using Twinkle. If I take a guess I think it may have been a level 2 warning- creating innapropriate pages

I think that yo would make a really good admin, but i think that you should get to know wikipedia more, and go through your admin coaching first.  Sunderland06  21:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Thnaks mate. I've requested admin coaching but there is a massive backlog, so I've spent hours just reading all the policies and guidelines etc...cf38talk 21:59, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Les Deux Alpes lift.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Les Deux Alpes lift.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:10, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Helpme request

{{helpme|requested at WP:RM, article Who Watches the Watchers? into article Who Watches the Watchers, but article Who Watches the Watchers is a redirect to article: Who Watches the Watchers?, so I need an admin to delete the redirect before the page can be moved}}

The move you are asking for assistance with was requested at Talk:Who Watches the Watchers? and there was no consensus to make the move, noting that the only source found indicated the proper title did have a question mark after it. If you can dig up some reliable sources showing tat the proper name does not have a question mark appended I suggest you remake a request at WP:RM.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:17, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
