Listing copyright problems[edit]

Hi! Thank you for the trouble you've taken to identify possible copyright problems and list them at WP:CP. Your help is much appreciated. Could I just remind you, though, that there are two steps to be taken when doing so, two bits of pre-formatted text to be copied from the blanking template: the first is the listing, as you've been doing; the second is a notification to the editor who added the suspect content, which in the recent case of the Deutsche Post article, you seem to have overlooked (I've now done it). Of course, if you can't identify who added the copyvio, you can skip that step - it can always be done later by someone else. If you need advice on how to go about any of this, please feel free to ask me, any time. Meanwhile, thanks again! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:35, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. I couldn't work out who had put the copied stuff in and didn't want to wrongly accuse anybody. I'll refrain from reporting these things in future if I'm causing problems! Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers! Trey Maturin (talk) 15:06, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No! Please don't! Refrain, that is. If you see a copyvio, please go ahead and list it. The worst that happens if you don't manage to notify the editor is that, as in this case, it sits for rather longer at WP:CP. That's still far preferable to having the copyvio remain in the article. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:18, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Two tools[edit]

Hi! Thank you for identifying the copyvio at Shake Hands Forever. When I posted here before, that was never meant to be taken as a request not to list copyvios if you notice them; I didn't mean that then, and I wouldn't want you to think it now. It's far better to list the copyvio without doing the notification than it is to just let it lie! In case it helps, there are a couple of tools that can help with finding who added what and when: this one and this. In both of them you can put in the article title and some text, and see who added it first. The second one looks better, but unfortunately doesn't always give accurate results. Thanks for your help! See Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Archive 197#Use of "died by suicide" at the David Reimer article and Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 140#Stigmatizing language regarding suicide. Wish FM[edit]

The article Wish FM keeps being moved to Greatest Hits Radio Wigan & St Helens by Talk:CCCC10. Is this appropriate as I note that a number of these are being reverted after this user moving them and changes are undiscussed? Londoncertified (talk) 16:13, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not an appropriate move. There's no radio station called "Greatest Hits Radio Wigan & St Helens" - just a page of the GHR website called that because it contains some semi-local news. The article should either be at Wish FM and in the past tense, or redirected to/merged with Greatest Hits Radio North West. Sadly, the user in question keeps making these type of moves based on scant/non-existent information, apparently out of a need to make everything conform neatly to a set pattern that doesn't exist in real life. ◦ Trey Maturin 17:55, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2022 Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council election[edit]

Hi Trey Maturin. Thank you for your work on 2022 Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council election. Can you please help by adding the percentage increases and decreases for the rest of the wards please? Only some of them are properly filled out. Similarly, in the tables for a lot of the wards the parties/candidates aren't currently correctly ordered by largest party at the top of the table descending to the lowest in vote order. If you could correct this too it would be much appreciated. Cheers. Helper201 (talk) 17:01, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I'm in the process of doing the order corrections myself. I could just do with you adding the remaining percentage increases and decreases for the parties in each of the wards where they aren’t already there. Cheers. Helper201 (talk) 17:11, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The percentages aren't in the source I used, @Helper201, so unless you know of a source that has them, adding them would be original research. — THIS IS TREY MATURIN 19:01, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1.1.1.1/WARP[edit]

An edited copy of what I posted at Meta, which Xaosflux suggested I post here as the place I do 99.9% of my editing....

{{unblock}}

Are you sure you're hard blocked? I don't see any hard blocks active on any of your IP addresses, and this article from PC Magazine says Cloudflare's WARP service shouldn't hide your IP address. Are you using Apple's Private Relay or Mozilla VPN? If so, you can simply turn them off. Can you exempt *.Wikipedia.org from whatever Cloudflare app you have installed? It looks like you can do so following these instructions (and this, too). You will likely need to exclude "wikipedia.org", "*.wikipedia.org", "wikimedia.org", and "*.wikimedia.org". You might have to ask for help from a network engineer. But if you try that and can't edit, I can give you IP block exemption on English Wikipedia. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 22:16, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@NinjaRobotPirate: On my work Mac I don’t use Private Relay, and I use Chrome as my browser. The only change to my setup has been installing the 1.1.1.1 app. The moment that was added, I stopped being able to edit anywhere but my Meta talk page.
I’m on my work iPhone at the moment, and I’m also blocked from editing, including this page. Cloudflare WARP is on; I’m using Chrome for iOS; again, no Private Relay and 1.1.1.1 app is the only change recently made. The block message the same as above, and reports my current IP as 2a09:bac0:376::82a:ac8a. I’ll check out the links above when I’m back in the office tomorrow and see if IT will let me make the changes you suggest. Thank you! — Trey Maturin has spoken 00:49, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edited to add: I’ve just switched WARP off on my mobile, sod my IT department!, and editing is back working, which allowed me to post this. My IP address is back to being a standard one from my ISP’s pool.) — Trey Maturin has spoken 00:52, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is a test of editing after excluding wikipedia.org in the 1.1.1.1 iOS app. — Trey Maturin has spoken 01:11, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but if the app has to be re-enabled, it should work if you whitelist the above domains. If not, I can give you IPBE. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 05:20, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to reconsider nominating the template per U1. Because other users than you have contributed, and because the template was not moved, the page history and attribution info could be lost if it were to be deleted. Regards, User:TheDragonFire300. The new, real template has attribution in the first edit, so nothing is lost. Maintaining a cross-namespace redirect in order to duplicate that attribution seems pointless. Nevertheless, feel free to ask for it to be undeleted and moved to your own userspace if it’s important to you. — Trey Maturin 07:57, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.

I hope you weren't offended by my most recent post in the deletion discussion about this article, and your reply was most constructive. It's just that I sometimes get frustrated when someone remains steadfast in their position even when the basic issue (in this case, lack of independent references) has been addressed.

I noticed that you have subsequently removed much of the information contained within the article but in fairness, I think this was the right thing to do. Removing non-notable presenters is perfectly justifiable and many of the dates given were not verifiable. Re-adding the dates when independent information is available would improve the article, and I might do just that, and any help to do this would be appreciated. Rillington (talk) 00:43, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have now added the word notable to the article's introduction to hopefully stop others from including a vast list of non-notable presenters. Rillington (talk) 09:46, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I recently included the period when someone was a presenter, as and when this information is available. I saw that you have now removed this information. To avoid us getting into an edit war, I will at this time not reinstate this information. Instead I have introduced this as a discussion point on the article's talk page and your contribution to this discussion would be welcome. I do feel that this information should be included so it no-one else comments I would likely ask for moderators to make a decision on this. Rillington (talk) 09:28, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note of appreciation[edit]

Hi Trey. I wanted to let you know that I thought this showed great perspective and clarity of thinking in steering things towards a pragmatic and positive outcome for both the parties and the project. It would have been very easy to have piled on there, given the circumstances and the fact that the OP clearly had the wrong end of the stick for much of the foregoing. At that juncture the discussion could easily have gone another direction, towards a CIR block proposal which probably would have alienated the user further, regardless of whether it was successful. Of course, it was helpful that the user ultimately had an open mind to feedback, but your favouring a more constructive and empathetic approach (rather than the imperious tone often prevails at ANI, for obvious and understandable reasons) clearly turned out to be what was called for in that moment, and I felt it was worth saying as much. I hope I see you around the project again in the future! SnowRise let's rap 04:14, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I decided to finally add my name to the members of the Animals. I toured with The Animals 2 version with Tony Liddle on vocals in the US in 2000. I can send you pictures and a video of us in Buffalo, also some pics are on my Facebook page. Hilton lived in Wallingford CT. and we met thru mutual friends, and when Jim Rodford couldn't tour, he asked me to join. The Vetrock tour unfortunately folded after the Willow Grove show, and Eric was also touring his band, so the conflict of interest put the cabash to that tour. Tony and John could verify. you misspelled encyclopedia. What do you mean by that? It's true. RotaryIsLife (talk) 19:05, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Troll elsewhere, I’m busy. — Trey Maturin 19:06, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I tried reverting [3] before you got to it and it wouldn't let me. It said something about a blacklisted extention? Knitsey (talk) 15:19, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, there was a spam URL in one of the refs. Whilst I was looking for it, someone else whipped it out. The refs need going through as they're Not Very Good. Perhaps when I get a moment! — Trey Maturin 15:22, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's a hint! I know a hint when I read it. I would offer but I'm old and tech isn't really my thing. Honest. Knitsey (talk) 15:35, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

I suppose I should be honoured to be deemed worthy of trolling, but the sock is just getting boring. Thanks for reporting the account name, I didn't know about that facility — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 20:28, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

UAA is understaffed and oversubscribed, so responses seem to take ~4 hours or so. Sorry that you’re having to put up with the nonsense until an admin is available to squish the little bugger! — Trey Maturin 20:33, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
4 hours is awesome! That article has been troublesome since last year. The irony is that there might possibly be some valid content to be found in there – if only the sock would calm down — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 20:43, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Types of strainer used in piping[edit]

Hello, Dear, i hope you are doing well. May i know why you remove my reference link, (Redacted)

In Above link there is good information about strainer and its types. How you can say it as irrelevant? Bhagwat123 (talk) 03:29, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The link isn't directly relevant to the article you put it in; it doesn't add anything of direct use for our readers; and the webpage itself is riddled with advertisements, pop-ups, autoplaying video and some 33 different types of tracking, making it a nightmare to use. — Trey Maturin 10:12, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New York City College of Technology Wiki page[edit]

Hello Trey Maturin, I work in New York City College of Technology and was told to make these edits which keeps getting taken down. This information is from The College website from the school division of Arts and Sciences. Mrs.sbb (talk) 16:44, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. That means you're strongly discouraged from making these edits as you have a very clear conflict of interest. I'll leave a note with further things you must do before you can make these changes on your talk page. — Trey Maturin 16:46, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please proceed with the report of the account as spam instead of deleting the link. See Wikipedia:Spam#Dealing_with_spam , specifically meta:NTSAMR. Cahk (talk) 08:24, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The last time I did that, my CSD request was turned down flat. I'll try again next time I spot one, quoting NTSAMR, but if I get turned down again it's someone else's problem and I won't try a third time. — Trey Maturin 09:53, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions Wikipedia Page: Dadvan Yousuf[edit]

Hi Trey, Due to a "conflict of interest" I cannot edit the Wikipedia page of Dadvan Yousuf which was put under semi-protection. I ask you to look at the "talk" section of Dadvan Yousuf's Wikipedia page for the suggestions I shared please. The page has some wrong information that must be corrected. I hope you can take a look at this so that together we can restore the neutrality of the page - I ask for nothing else than to restore neutrality and I am currently a bit helpless - you would help me damned with it.. 94.200.195.18 (talk) 14:34, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

External Links Removal on Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Article[edit]

Hello Trey Maturin,

Thank you for your prompt message regarding the removal of external links from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 article. I would like to provide some context regarding the links I added.

The external links I included were carefully chosen to provide readers with valuable information about the price and release date of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9. While I understand the importance of maintaining Wikipedia's quality and credibility, I believe that the links I added served to enhance the article by offering specific and up-to-date details that could be of interest to readers.

I value your expertise and your commitment to upholding Wikipedia's guidelines. If there are any alternative ways I can contribute information about the price and release date of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 that align better with Wikipedia's standards, I would be open to your suggestions.

Thank you for your consideration and for your efforts in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of Wikipedia's content.

Best regards,

change rejected[edit]

I sincerely thought it was interesting how the use of ARM in SEO can be considered, it demonstrates its versatility, but ok... Alexbaccio (talk) 16:19, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The page you linked to is in Italian, and the first line is "Attualmente, non esiste una correlazione diretta tra i processori ARM e le pratiche di ottimizzazione per motori di ricerca." So, no, I'm afraid it was of no use to the English-language Wikipedia at all. — Trey Maturin 16:25, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, true, it's written like this in the first line, but if you read everything you'll say that certain correlations exist... it's true, it's in Italian, yes Alexbaccio (talk) 16:36, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help again...[edit]

Can I ask a couple of questions again via e-mail? Knitsey (talk) 09:15, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Of course! I’m on trains going places for the next 5 days, which either means instant replies or a long wait, depending on reception and whether the trains actually run. — Trey Maturin 09:56, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, it's just some general questions and there is no rush. Knitsey (talk) 10:02, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vintorez Split[edit]

How can a discussion be made to split the two articles? Can you help? Much appreciated LoafingCat (talk) 09:54, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @LoafingCat: There's a guide to how to propose a split at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits. It'll talk you through the process, but it boils down to starting a discussion at Talk:AS Val and VSS Vintorez and seeing what others think (we work by consensus here). — Trey Maturin 09:58, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems too complicated. I'm new to this. What is your take on this? Since the merge was done without a discussion. Is it better to leave it as it is or split them? Keeping them together might confuse readers? LoafingCat (talk) 11:33, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The merge was done on 15 July 2022‎, and it has been stable for over a year, so readers haven't displayed confusion. The only objection to the merger was from a sockpuppet of a banned user. My gut reaction is that you're on a hiding to nowhere trying to get them to be split. However, if you truly feel they should be separate articles with a lot of overlapping material, then you'll need to propose that on the article's talk page.Trey Maturin 12:22, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, knew you were a sock, but didn't think you were Gun Lover (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). So there's that. — Trey Maturin 14:20, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion contested: User:Jaredhomes111/sandbox[edit]

Hello Trey Maturin. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of User:Jaredhomes111/sandbox, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A11 is only applicable for mainspace articles. Thank you. BangJan1999 12:18, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't tag it as A11. — Trey Maturin 12:23, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In all fairness, using WP:NOTMADEUP as a justification for speedy deletion is pretty much what A11 is about. BangJan1999 19:07, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As is U5. — Trey Maturin 22:55, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rejection of link to Saltfleetby Village Website[edit]

Why has the link to my website been deleted? It was added as an external link on relevant pages about the village, its churches and the area it is in. The website is non-commercial, it consists of useful information about the village, mainly a great deal of recent, well-research, detailed, fully-referenced history on these topics. I believe it should be included as it would be of great interest to anyone wanting to find out more about Saltfleetby and access useful up-to-date information. It isn't selling anything or making money in any way for anyone. It is not spam. Lincs77 (talk) 15:12, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, you see, if you'd subtly added your website to just one relevant page, it would probably have survived being linked from here. That you quickly added it to four pages means it has been removed entirely. If you add it again, you risk it being added to our blacklist, which can have a very detrimental effect to your PageRank (adding a site, conversely, doesn't help raise your PageRank due to our use of the nofollow tag). — Trey Maturin 15:18, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm new to this. I only finished making my website a few days ago and want to get it seen by people who will find it interesting and useful. I didn't know there was anything wrong with adding it to all relevant pages in one go. I have not done this before and didn't understand that that would be seen as anything wrong. It is not spam. I only added it to pages on subjects on which I'd written a large section on my site, the pages it has been taken down from. I mean no harm. I would just like to contribute. So how can I have my website added to the right pages now? Lincs77 (talk) 16:32, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We're an encyclopedia, not a way of getting your blog into the eyes of lots of people. We're run by volunteers and funded by donations, so when people set up a website and spam it across lots of articles, they are stealing from a charity and we who work hard here for free feel offended.
Your blog is likely now to get blacklisted, and I'm sorry about that. But perhaps you'd like to contribute to Wikipedia directly – after all, it was important enough to try to get your blog on lots of pages, so it must also be important in general – by working on articles related to your area of interest, expanding them with the same reliable sources that you used for making your blog, I'm sure, and generally adding to the sum of human knowledge without self-interest.
If you do that for a bit and improve Wikipedia that way, I'd be amongst many people who would support getting your blog removed from the blacklist. — Trey Maturin 16:55, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding link deletion[edit]

The link used there on " List of Google products " is outdated so i updated it new blog with relevant information and new updates. I thought people looking for information around that topic will need new updated and relevant information.

Ashwani910 (talk) 10:37, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The link is not broken. Even if it was, we'd get an archived version from somewhere else before we used a random blog. — Trey Maturin 10:40, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AN/I[edit]

I was sorry to see you treated rudely at AN/I just for requesting help in a situation that is obviously soon to turn into a mess. "Well, deal with it yourself and stop bothering us" isn't what an admin should be telling anyone. What you experienced is why I ceased raising issues to AN or AN/I. My only advice would be to unwatch the page and let it become a mess. There are many functional problems of Wikipedia that simply can't be fixed and trying to do so will only give you high blood pressure and an ulcer. - Who is John Galt? 14:16, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I read this this morning. I was suprised at some of the responses. I understand the issue about taking it to the talk page but when it's a subject that seems to be heading towards dispute, early intervention by an admin might just help resolve the issue and prevent a possible drama at which ever noticeboard it ends up at.
At least you tried. Knitsey (talk) 14:36, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, guys. I'm travelling at the moment (hello 5G, oh, hello 3G, oh, hello nothing for 15 minutes) so wouldn't've been able to doing anything until Monday anyway, but a bit of advice rather than… whatever the hell that was would've been nice. But, it's Wikipedia, where no good deed goes unpunished and, totally unrelated, there's an editor retention problem. Ho hum. — Trey Maturin 16:33, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Apologize[edit]

I apologize for my rudeness the other day. I certainly held no ill will, but what I said was rude to you, and for that I offer only an apology, and no excuse. I am sorry. --Jayron32 18:13, 5 September 2023 (UTC)*[reply]
