The Pacific Lumber Company[edit]

I noted with interest your recent work on subject article. I offer anecdotal information on the takeover to aid your search for references. PALCO was unusual among the large redwood lumber companies of the late 20th century because it had never recapitalized and kept an unusually large percentage of liquid assets available to repurchase controlling stock interest in the event of takeover attempts. This situation changed as a result of a positive environmental program undertaken by PALCO when the State of California enacted legislation to encourage cogeneration projects by changing the rate at which public utilities reimbursed industrial generators. PALCO built a modern steam plant to generate electricity from waste bark, sawdust, and wood scraps. The dollar amount of construction was larger than any previous investment by PALCO because of inflation since earlier timberland purchases and sawmill construction. The consequent reduction of liquid assets opened a window of takeover vulnerability.Thewellman (talk) 19:33, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks so much for the info--that's quite interesting. Now... I wonder if there's any site that actually published this information so that we can actually use it as a citation. Traveliter (talk) 21:40, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
