List of countries and dependencies by population

Dear Thomas, I noticed that you reverted my edit on List of countries and dependencies by population. Your edit summary gives me the impression that you did not read the discussion on that matter on the talk page of that article, where we evaluated in detail what the Template:UN Population does, what source lies at its base, and why it uses the range of numbers that it does. I will try to give you a short summary why I believe this source is superior to the one that you reverted to. The old source is from 2014, by the Ethiopian Statistics Agency, making a number of projections for a large range of future years, and the number picked was the projection for 2020. In itself that is a good source, and I would accept it as long as no more recent or more accurate source is available. But the above template provides just that. The source is from 2019, therefore 5 years newer than the CSA source, and it also provides a range of figures, going back to old historic numbers, and going through each of the last 20 years, and making projections up to 2020 (btw, the 2020 projection of the UN for Ethiopia is about 114 million, according to the UN source). Now, the makers of the template have decided to not use the 2020 projection, but the figure of 2018, because this is not a future projection, but an estimate of the known situation in the past. As such, I believe that figure has a higher weight as a source than a 2014 crystal ball of what the future 5 years from then might bring - and indeed it appears as if that old CSA number fell quite short from how the situation evolved in reality. I therefore kindly ask you to re-evaluate your revert, and if you cannot do so, I would like to hear your reasons why, best by participating in that discussion on the talk page of the list. FYI, "succeeded by" doesn't mean who is currently in session. Every article would have to be updated on a regular basis if that was the case. What it means is, which person replaced him in the next relevant election. Think about it like this... which album followed Metallica's Black album from 1991? The correct answer is Load from 1996 - it will always be Load from 1996. Yes there are other albums that were later released, but they didn't follow the eponymous black album; Load did. Hello again! It appears you've made a habit out of not including a summary to your edits. Remember, per H:FIES, it is Wikipedia's policy to "always provide an edit summary". As it states in the first paragraph, this will help people understand your edits and they will be less likely to revert you. This means less edit warring in general and less time wasted. Like your edit on Matt Shea, you replaced his successor without a summary. Because there already was a successor in place prior to your edit, it appeared as if you were editing wantonly. "As of" and CURRENTYEAR macro

Please *STOP* making edits like this one [1] to political pages. That is, do not use {{CURRENTYEAR}} macros in "as of" statements. You are adding statements that will become incorrect as they age, which is a violation of Wikipedia's accuracy guidelines and manual of style. See the following: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Words_to_watch#Relative_time_references and Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Current

And from the "as of" template, Template:As_of#Usage_guidelines: "Using ... variables such as {{As of|{{CURRENTYEAR}}}} is a relative time reference and the equivalent to using "currently", which is generally against the precise language guideline."

If you're going to replace "collapse top", make sure you also replace "collapse bottom"

At 2020 United States House of Representatives elections in Texas and a handful of similar articles, you replaced {{collapse top}} with table markup but left {{collapse bottom}} in place. Please revisit those articles and use table closing markup to finish your work. I did the Texas article for you. It looks like all of the articles in which you "hid hypothetical polling" in this list of contributions need the same fix. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:39, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

You are also removing <noinclude>...</noinclude> tags, which causes the hypothetical polling, along with the errors that you are introducing, to appear at Statewide opinion polling for the 2020 United States presidential election. Oregon's 6th congressional district

Hi Thomascampbell123, I noticed that you recently edited the PVI rating of the 6th to exclude the fact that the PVI shown is applicable 2023 onwards, as currently the district is non-existent. Roland H. Hartley

Hey, I noticed you added back in the sentence in the intro of Roland H. Hartley about his being the last socially conservative Republican governor of Washington. I haven't seen this kind of assessment on other politicians' pages since it seems hard to get right (for example, who would be "the last socially conservative Republican senator from Maine"?), and IMO it's hard to apply terms like "social conservative" and "social liberal" to pre-New Deal-era politicians. Abortion and affirmative action were not even conceived as political issues at the time Hartley was in government, and it's also not clear that Hartley's environmental stance was any different from that of other politicians in the West. I think just describing Hartley as "conservative" and leaving out trying to compare him to subsequent governors would make more sense. I think that the only three Republican governors of Washington since Hartley were socially liberal based on many actions they did, such as affirmative action programs and abortion legalization. However, I agree with you that the American political parties were not as divided based on conservatism and liberalism prior to the Great Depression.
