Compliments

Your Ontario transport article is more detailed than the actually town article itself.!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Yep - I've just been browsing and their are even articles on bus stations in small communites in the area!! Viva Buses and all that. The size of this encyclopedia is just astounding isn't it and of course we're just getting starting!!!. Give it ten years and we'll have it all and most articles in decent shape hopefully. I've just split the Sports section of Markham. - I take it you're from the Toronto area. Visited there back in '93. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:22, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

The main Markham article is poor. Too many lists and not enough encyclopedic text. It'd be great if you write it into a good article !!. Keep up the good work. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:24, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Reply of the raccoon

I recieved your message on my talk page this morning, and i'm glad you like the ideas. The only reason i chose the "Highway xx (Ontario)" format was to keep it in line with the rest of the topics and wikiprojects, as well as being short, yet understandable. I have three ideas that i think you might like, so i broke the reply up into three parts below:

  1. Regarding decommissioned highways with numbers that have not been "recycled", I have an article going at List of decommissioned Ontario provincial highways.
  2. I'll go with the two suggestions that you liked the most for regarding "recycled" designations for highways. I won't list them on the template since it will get unmanageably big too quickly. Instead, i shall either add them to the List of decommissioned highways in Ontario article and add a note to the List of Ontario provincial highways article, or make a small note on the template saying "See also: List of decommissioned highways in Ontario", and add the "recycled" designations at a section, such as "Recycled Designations".
  3. Regarding county roads, i dig the "Category:County roads in Essex County, Ontario" name, though it sounds slightly redundant ("county" being in the title twice). Perhaps it could be a bit shorter in length? If you want, i will start a co-ordinated effort to move/rename all the articles and templates and categories towards a standard that you would prefer as well. Perhaps we could make the standard as "<name> <type> Road xx (Ontario)" (such as "Essex County Road 42 (Ontario)" or "Essex County Road 42, Ontario", as you suggested), with redirects pointing from "Essex County, Ontario Road 42" and "County Road 42 (Essex County, Ontario)". We do need standards so things are as clear and un-confusing as possible, and i'm willing to help you out with that.

Waterloo Region

I say go for it! kitchener-waterloo-camebridge and guelph need attention, too! i could even help with the template, and with the MTO's proposed roads in the area (a KW-Guelph freeway by upgrading highway 7 from Conestoga Parkway to Hanlon Parkway), upgrading Hanlon Parkway to a freeway, extending it south to Hamilton, as well...

Image Names

I know that the vast majority of Ontario's highway shields have the highway names of Ontario xx (xx being the highway number)...but for Secondary and Tertiary Highways, i've accidentally given them the highway names of Ontario Highway xx..is this acceptable, and perhaps, within standards (since these are different highway types within the network)? Re: Niagara Regional Roads template

Thanks for the encouragement. I've been meaning to get the Niagara roads done for a while. 81 was going to be my first, as it is one of the longest that wasn't part of the 97/98 downloading, but you got to it first. No big deal, I'll do 24, 3, 50, 23, 27 etc as I have time. Niagara uses an Aerial-esque font called Clearview for all their signs. I just used Aerial in Adobe Illustrator to make the shields and the street signs. The blue is just a basic blue, which also happens to be what Niagara uses. One bit of advice I can offer is that St. Catharines is always spelt with the St., it is -never- spelt with Saint. I hope to have the trunk routes done in the next few weeks, I would be thankful for any help that can be offered. Take Care, Snickerdo 23:21, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Also, I should add, I have created shields for every single Niagara regional road. I did them originally for the list of regional roads, as I was going to use the shield rather than just the text numbered listing. I was also going to seperate former regional roads into a seperate section and/or article. The images are PNG and sitting on my hard drive. The reason I haven't uploaded them is because it is going to take a while to upload a hundred or so images one-by-one to Wikipedia. A bulk upload feature would be very nice. If you need one for an article, let me know. The street signs I am making on an as-needed basis. I made the Queenston Street one just to demo what Niagara uses at intersections with major roads. Template

Yea, I noticed I made a typo, it was supposed to say "Topics ON Markham", but it does say that on the box itself. I just squeezed everything about Markham into a little box there. And the first PA day will be September 21

Requests

Category / Template renaming

Category:Roads in Simcoe County
Template:Simcoe County Roads
I am sorry, but I do not understand the point of these. Would it not be more encyclopedic to put these Articles into Category:Roads in Ontario ?

May I suggest moving Category:Roads in Simcoe County to a new Title to match the style of Category:Transportation in Essex County, Ontario . Making it Category:Transportation in Simcoe County, Ontario would open it up to all sorts of information that we could add to it ... like our airfields (Owen Sound/Billy Bishop Regional Airport), waterways(MS Chi-Cheemaun), winter maintenance programs etc. ?

What are your thoughts ? Exit2DOS2000TC 08:29, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Template:ONThighways

I say we re-create the four templates. if they decide to delete THOSE, then i don't know what to do after that. This is why i dislike wikipedia. majority rules, but the majority are bullies. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 16:53, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
